A word from Nellcote
Nellcôte is an impertinent take on fine dining. Chef Jared Van Camp has crafted an “obsessively house made” and locally focused bill of fare - while taking influence from France, Italy and Spain, the ingredients and products are sourced exclusively from the Midwest. The vibe is Rock'n'roll bohemian chic. With a defiant return to glamour...Nellcôte is a sexy and high-energy nightspot with absolutely no pretense.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had high hopes. Signature cocktails were nothing special. Pizza had a bitter crust (since they mill their own flour not sure why the pasta and pizza were so mediocre). Home made pastas and sauces had no taste. Not sure why the raves. Noise level for a date was ridiculous. Outdoor dining also noisy but manageable. Come with a group if you have to but otherwise skip it."

  • "The pizza was very bland, but most of the other food was flavorful. Enjoyed the house-made breads to start. Love how they are roasting and grilling a bunch of summer vegetables, from spigarello to cauliflower to green beans. Cauliflower was my favorite of all, great char and tossed with pickled cherry peppers, bagna cauda and parmigiano. Of the desserts, the lemon semifreddo sandwiched between pistachio shortbread is the way to go. They have done a bunch of different semifreddi over the last couple of years, all different flavor combos but in a thin rectangular ice cream sandwich style. All quite good."

  • "We loved nellcote. The food was amazing. The truffle potatoes were unbelievable and the beer burrata salad was a favorite too. Everything we ordered was fresh and did not disappoint. We will be back:)"

  • "Service, food, and wine were all very good. The waiter accidentally brought an item we did not order, but said we could just keep it and comped that item."

  • "The food here is amazing! With every bite, all I could say was "Wow!" You have to try the Cobia Crudo and the Skuna Bay Salmon, your taste buds will thank you. I have eaten here twice already and definitely plan to go back."

  • "The service was great even though our table had yet to clear. The staff had everything under control. The food was fantastic and desert was excellent. I enjoyed every dish and the pricing was reasonable. We will definitely come back to Nellcote on my next visit to Chicago."

  • "A beautiful restaurant where you can't hear yourself think! Took the joy out of the dining experience. But the Arugula salad was great and the pizzas were good.MSJSL"

  • "Marche' was our go-to spot for years but we hadn't been back to Nellcote, which is now in that space, in a while. Our loss. Everything was good and our server was fun, kind and helpful. The wood-fired pizza arrived last which worked out well if you believe in saving the best for last."

  • "Nellcote is truly a gem on the Randolph street restaurant row! My wife and I had an outstanding meal sitting outside on a recent evening. The paste, made on site with hand-milled flour, is excellent and the entire menu is structured in a small plates style, thus allowing for sharing of multiple dishes. We had the potato gnocchi, pork chops and spicy n'djua pizza with a delicious bottle of sauvignon blanc. Service was very good with the waiter providing constant updates to our wine and water and was very conscious of allowing us to enjoy our dinner. Dessert was another highlight with what I can only describe as a type of lemon ice-cream sandwich.....lite and refreshing. The atmosphere is energetic and the decor very vibrant."

  • "Delicious tapas style Italian food, beets were so sweet, pizza just right, dessert a perfect ending, didn't feel rushed to leave when the restaurant closed, nice service, overall a lovely evening"

  • "OMG... what a disappointing choice in restaurant. Went with a friend and we almost walkout after seeing the menu but felt bad for the nice hostess. Not much a food selection. I think there were about 4 dinner selections and pizza. We ended having some pizza which was not great and salmon. Its a young crowd hangout."

  • "We loved our Brunch and will be back. We were happy with our small shared platter of a few pieces of cheese, prosciutto, and bread (though a bit more bread would be appreciated); the tiny madeleines were delightful as was the lemon curd. One of us is now crazy about the lobster hash with poached eggs atop: delicious flavor and a good portion. One of us was very pleased with the tasty quiche Lorraine but wished for twice as much (and she is not one with a big appetite). We enjoyed the triple chocolate mousse for dessert though we wished there was a larger selection than three items. Cappuccino made for a lovely ending to a fine~ and fun~ meal. Scrumptious choices as well as inventive options will keep us coming. The pizza too!"

  • "Fresh, local ingredients and amazing flavors. Server was fine, but support staff was superb. It's beautiful, clean, and well run. Chef Jared Van Camp is clearly the star of the show. You must go! The semifredo was divine!"

  • "Overall great ambience, great place to take a date. Cocktails as always were delish. Best dish of the night was the gnocchi."

  • "I was happily surprised at how good the food was at Nellcote. I was part of a group (7 people) so the food was served family-style. It was great trying out all the dishes. Service was great, too. NOTE -- If you go, be sure to order the roasted mushrooms--they are unbelievably good!"

  • "We had absolutely horrible service and the food was nothing to write home about. We even had two servers because one was getting trained. Hopefully the trainee has a service background or else he will be getting 10% or less tips like our server earned. We got our drinks then waited 15-20 minutes for anyone to come back so we could place our order. Our food took nearly 20 minutes to arrive. No one checked up on our food until everyone was finished eating. We had credit cards sitting on the table for 10 minutes before the hostess came over to offer to close us out and refill coffee. This place came very highly recommended, but ended up being the worst food and service we had all weekend in Chicago."

  • "I've always wanted to dine here and finally had the opportunity to do so with my boyfriend. We went on a Wednesday night and it wasn't crowded. We first ordered a marguerita pizza with buffalo Mozzarella and the squid ink pasta with lobster (I forget the actual name). The pasta was great and the pizza was a little undercooked. We then ordered a side of asparagus and a chicken dish. The chicken wasn't anything spectacular and the asparagus was overdone. Finally, the BEST part of our meal was a lemon dessert with cherry and cream. It was recommended by our waitress and even though were both not big lemon fans, I could eat this dessert forever. Not too tart and the cream was to die for."

  • "beautiful place - big, spacious - great for groups or dates expect small plates. My friend and I had the potatoes, cauliflower which were good. The squid ink pasta was great but the spaghetti was awesome b/c of the noodles. Didn't have the pizza - though I hear that's a good size for sharing. Would go again!"

  • "We were a group of 5 dining at Nellcote for the first time. We ordered many dishes and shared them on mini-plates. Every dish was excellent. We had two different kind of salads, some of their housemade bread (flour mill on site), salmon, scallops, lamb, pasta, pizza - all delicious. Cocktails were fun and creative. Highly recommend."

  • "I went to Nellcote to celebrate my College Graduation. The food was outstanding, as was the decor. My first interactions with the staff over the phone were positive, they were accomodating and helpful. However, my dining experience was hindered by an unattentive waiter who brought out one small plate of vegetables or one pizza at a time for a group of 8 in a sharing style restaurant."

  • "Delicious food and gorgeous decor. Really enjoyed this restaurant."

  • "We had another wonderfully leisurely evening of fantastic food and great drinks. They mill their own flour so the pasta and pizza are fantastic and you can't go wrong with any of the fresh vegetables. I always ask the waitstaff and chef to just "tell me what to get" knowing that even if it's something I usually don't care for, they have a way of preparing it such that I love it. If you're a foodie - this place is a must."

  • "Hostess informed me that she couldn't honor my reservation for 45 minutes to 1 hour. There was no apology, no indication of an effort to make other accommodations for us, just a finger pointing to the bar where we were told we could wait. Upon further pressing it appears that she simply forgot to mark the table as occupied in the system and therefore that was my problem, not theirs."

  • "When reservations at another restaurant fell through, I was able to get Nellcote reservations at the last minute. I'd never heard anything about the restaurant before, so it was a bit of a gamble, but it totally paid off! Amazing cocktails, delicious house made bread, butter and sausage. Everything we had was amazing. My faves were the spring pea and burrata salad and the chocolate parfait. Atmosphere was a cool mixture of elegant and funky—loved the chandeliers! Great place to start out a bachelorette party. I think we'll all be coming back in the future. My boyfriend has already suggested a date night!"

  • "Everything is set up to be share plates so it's fun to go with a group. The cauliflower was by far our favorite, followed by the salmon and scallops. "

  • "Limited but very tasted menu. Interesting variations of vegetables. Nice vibe. Casual, yet elegant. Natural concrete pillars are eye-appealing contrast to crystal chandeliers. TVs popped down when Black Hawk game started. "

  • "My friend and I ordered 4 dishes sharing them all, plus dessert-what a perfect meal. The simple green salad and beets with goat cheese really paired beautifully. So did the scallops and fava bean ravioli. The ggelato paired well with the chocolate (mousse) parfait. Wines we selected were really nice and went well with our food selections. Our server was very helpful, friendly and professional. Love the decor-sort if funky romantic. Only complaint is it was a bit on the warm side. "

  • "It was funny to watch people across the street at Little Goat wait for 90-120 minutes while Nellcote had a 3/4 full dining room and shaded sidewalk. Our food was very good, unembellished and perfectly cooked. A rolled omelet and excellent quiche loraine (the crust!), each with a simple side salad. Such a nice change from the mandatory 'potatoes' at most other brunches. Also, we started with the 'for the table' breakfast charcuterie option. Though still good, this did not impress us as much as our entrees did. The madeleines were good, the rolls were a little dry, and there weren't enough rolls for the amount of topping we were given. Service was prompt, and coffee service was very good. Would like to see a higher-quality coffee."

  • "Won't go back. Too many other choices in the city. Did not live up to our expect ions."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "The area is great. The service was great. The atmosphere/decor was great. But the food was average. Very limited menu and pretty pricey given the portion sizes (tapas style). Cool place to chill for drinks and appetizers but I wouldn't return for dinner."

  • "While we dined at Nellcote to celebrate a special occasion, we wouldn't wait for the next special occasion to return. Loved the small plates which were varied and delicious. The place was hopping but never too loud or interfering with our dining experience. However, almost too efficient in serving the small plates, we were afraid we'd be out of there too soon. But our server picked up on our mood and let us enjoy the rest of our meal at our own pace. A lovely evening. Happy to recommend."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Nellcote for her birthday for a surprise late-night bite and we had a tremendous experience. I raved so much about the food that you may have thought it was my birthday. The service was quick, the considerations were thoughtful and the accommodations were perfect. I highly recommend Nellcote for a special occasion or drinks with a small group of special friends. "
