  • "Have been wanting to eat here for a long time and so glad I finally did. Tried three of the vegetable dishes (the mushrooms and polenta were divine), the scallops, and gnocchi. For dessert the chocolate pot was ridiculously good. I would recommend eating here for business groups, groups of friends, couples. A great go-to spot!"

  • "Beautiful ambiance full of chandeliers and shabby chic decor. Great food, much more interesting brunch menu than most Chicago spots. Drinks were good, the Bloody Mary was tasty, could have been spicier and Nellcote bellini had a cherry in the bottom. Would order the lobster hash, breakfast plate and margherita pizza again. Wish they offered the egg white cocktail at brunch :)"

  • "Really enjoyed drinks before dinner in the lounge area followed by table for two dining. The room is exceptional. If you don't have time for dinner, just stop in for a drink to check it out. Dinner was less formal than I expected - sharable grilled brussel sprouts, beets and cauliflower dishes that were quite tasty. Their known for their pizza but we opted for homemade pasta which did not disappoint. Wish the weather had been nicer to enjoy their indoor/outdoor champagnerie hidden behind the restaurant - - we will definitely be back!"

Even if some members of the group aren't as adventuresome, there are things on the menu to suit them, but overall, there's an opportunity to try some fun and unique items (kale salad and roasted brussell sprouts were fantastic)."

We tried many of the items on the menu between the 5 of us - 3 of us vegetarians and they we most accommodating in adjusting the dishes for us. We will be back."

  • "Although a somewhat limited menu, everything (particularly pastas) are flavor and style concentrated. If you want to embellish a dish with any other available ingredient, your server will make that order happen. Lots of nice drinks to choose from. Pizzas are well topped and although they get pretty soggy in the center, the sauces and crust are still really really good to eat. I love the different dining areas--each makes every dining experience different. Since the crowd make up changes as the evening goes on, your specific dining experience changes too. Don't forget to order any pasta--the egg noodles are rich and phenomenoal to the bite!"

  • "My friend and I ate at Nellcote on a Thursday evening - the restaurant was about 2/3 full on a rainy evening. The (former Marche) space is lovely evoking a grand french dining room but the music was modern rock and too loud for relaxed conversation. The pear brussel sprout salad featured lovely pears however the brussels sprouts themselves were chunky and sort of raw tasting. The mushroom polenta dish was creamy and lovely. The egg arugula pizza was good but a little too rubbery cheesy. The butternut squash tagliatelle was good but sort of blah. The restaurant emphasizes small plates and sharing but we had to ask for clean plates every time a course was served. The restaurant does feature many vegetarian options."

  • "Nellcote's claim to fame is that they grind their own flour in the basement using locally(ish) grown wheat. Could I tell a difference in the bread and pasta? Not really--but everything was so delicious, it didn't matter. Three of us shared the bread plate, ham and persimmon salad, roasted cauliflower, a simple pasta with truffles added (at a very reasonable price), the bison ribeye steak (meant for two but more than enough for us), and 2 desserts. All food was outstanding, as were my cocktail and one friend's mocktail. Service was highly accommodating. Only negative was LOUD music, not our style; made conversation difficult. YMMV. Otherwise, we had a great evening."

  • "Nellcote is a gorgeous and romantic restaurant in the West Loop. The service was fantastic and overall the food was good, but not great. We ordered the brussels sprout salad (must miss) and the duck tartare to start (excellent) and the Amish Chicken and Bolognese for main entrees. The golden beets were delicious. I loved the atmosphere but need to review the menu in detail next time before making a selection."

  • "We arrived early for a special birthday dinner; the service was impeccable until the restaurant got crowded and our waiter disappeared, while the busboy kept trying to take plates we weren't finished with. The amish chicken was fantastic, the side of potatoes was magical, as was the mushroom polenta appetizer. The pizza with sunny side up egg was also very good. The only disappointment was the pear and brussel sprouts salad. The brussel sprouts were way undercooked - hard to get the fork through on a couple and the pears were underripe. The dressing was delicious, however, and if they get the cooking right, it should also be a good choice. The room is beautiful and it did feel like a very special evening with a special friend."

  • "We chose Nellcote for my husband's birthday after reading reviews and hearing about it. It was a nice evening out, but nothing amazing for the price. The atmosphere is slightly pretentious but service was very attentive. Salmon and mushroom polenta were both amazing, pizza was very average."

  • "If you have plans following brunch here, build in plenty of time. As the 3rd party in the door we waited 30 mins+ for entrees. If you are viewing the wine list online, be advised the outstanding Gruet is no longer offered. The Salmon and kale is outstanding (although the onions can overwhelm) and the wheat pancakes are also good. When full, the dining room can be difficult to navigate to the restroom. If you don't like screaming babies at an upscale brunch, sorry but they are here, fortunately, they were seated far enough away. Service was outstanding but $71 tab for 2 entrees, 2 wines and a coffee (which I was told was weak and can't compare to Julius Meinl). Wine list is underwhelming. Music is too loud. Nice, but better options in town."

  • "Live by the Stones, die by the Stones. Beautiful restaurant, but food and service lacking. Not seated for 45 minutes after our reservation. Bartenders too busy to be friendly. Sat upstairs, where the tables and chairs were a definite downgrade from downstairs; the chairs were hard-metal like you'd find at a diner, not the fabric covered, very-comfy looking ones from downstairs. Server very friendly, but took way too long between ordering, drinks, and food courses. Food just OK, so overpriced. Avoid Robuchon potatoes, highly recommended by the server, as they were pureed so much you need a spoon to eat them. Pizza was burned on the bottom, dough not done enough, sauce runny; one slice had no cheese at all."

  • "As usual Nellcote exceeded expectations again. The service was awesome (almost too good ha) and the food was amazing. Would definitely recommend the pork chop (surprisingly easy to share), venison tartare, roasted brussel sprouts and the flatbread with the organic egg. For dessert my recommendation would be the chocolate partfait. We also had a "cookies and cream" which was different but if you don't like chocolate might be a good choice."

  • "The food, service, and atmosphere were all terrific - you won't be disappointed. Just don't be under the impression that any of those menu items that are presented as entrees are anything but relatively small side dishes. This is tapas-like food, even though the menu looks otherwise. For example, the $15 butternut squash ravioli in the pasta section of the menu (sure looks like they're saying it's an entree) were 8 fingertip-size filled pasta, perhaps 2 tablespoons in size. So, when you consider going, be aware that this is more like a $$$+ restaurant rather than a $$. Suggestion: Order pizzas, too, if you want to make sure you don't leave hungry or broke."

  • "Unfortunately, my friends and I did not have the best experience at Nellcote. The positives: the pizza! We ordered the egg pizza and it is well worth it. Delicious! Everything else, however, was "meh". The scallops were small, did not have a lot of flavor, and I would never order them again. We also ordered brussel sprouts. Nothing special about these at all. They lacked flavor. The worst part was the service. The restaurant was not that crowded and we had to order our second glass of wine from a food server. I don't even think it was our waiter who ended up bringing us the wine. We only saw him to order our food and then to pay. For the expense, the service should have been much more on point. Overall, disappointed and will not return."

  • "This was our first time and we were not disappointed. First the drinks: Play with Fire was great. The bread is homemade. We enjoyed the roasted cauliflower, the Kale and Brussel Sprouts. The food is actually quite simple, but it's very tasty. The highlight was the Scallops with white beans, which can be tricky to cook. Ours were spot on, creamy and soft, but not mushy! Finally, the pizza was the best, the crust is homemade and the sausage was tasty, but very different from the usual that you get on an American pizza. We were there about 6:30PM; I have read negative comments about staff attitude when it gets busy. Jenny was our food server and she was simply delightful. She checked often but never overbearing. She was friendly."
