NellcoteFabulous for a Monday nightWe really, really appreciated the knowledgable, friendly and attentive service we had from our waiter (I think his name was Sean, from Oak Park originally). The food was exceptional in bringing seasonal ingredients to the mix. Loved being able to combine a number of small plates, share a larger one and dessert to make a memorable meal.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday brunchDelicious food and great vibe. Sunny side egg pizza was the best. DJ was also spinning tunes.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunchI went there for brunch with friends who were in town from London. Friendly service, good ambiance and good food. The salmon I had was delicious. However, the portions were quite small and we left feeling a little hungry (especially the guys).5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for the young crowd. Our first time at Nellcote. We are older--in our 70's so we were the oldest people in the restaurant. Probably better for a young crowd. The tapas format is nice. The food was well-prepared, original and came at a steady pace. The waitress, tho a little young and a little uncertain of herself, still did a pretty good job for us. I would recommend the restaurant but probably to a younger crowd.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAs good as expectedI had high hopes for Nellcote and was not let down. Friendly and not at all pushy service, low key but slightly trendy vibe, and cvery good food. Will be back for sure. Only negative, not much of a vegetarian selection. Cheese danish was very light. Order a side of Bacon, you won't regret it.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMNice EveningHad a really nice time at this restaurant. Great atmosphere and solid service. Although, I wouldn't give the food five stars, very few restaurants deserve that rating. This place has a few terrific small plates that are noteworthy.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this restaurant! TheI love this restaurant! The food is incredible and the service is great. It is well decorated and I love the ambience here. I've had the pizza here as well as the venison tartare and several other small plates and haven't found one thing I've disliked so far. I've also had brunch here a couple of times and love everything I've tried so far (steak and eggs, lobster hash, sunnyside up egg pizza, and quiche lorraine) I've only been for brunch a couple of times but tried everyone else's food that I went with as well as my own.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed this restaurantsWe really enjoyed this restaurants decor. It gave you a feeling of being at someone's home. Our server was friendly and efficient. The food was very good. We had several dishes to share and enjoyed them all!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat evening at NellcotteWe had a great evening dining outside at Nellcotte. Our waitress was extremely attentive and offered good suggestions. We had a pizza, salad, chicken and shrimp and 2 desserts and every dish was very good. Will definitely return.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place is nice, open space,This place is nice, open space, love the chandelier lights, the only thing put me off were the 2 large TV by the car, it ruined the classiness of the place. Food was excellend, I had the smoked trout salad and yoghurt. Mimosa was good too. I enjoyed it and would come back again.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMUneven foodWonderful setting with a great sounding menu. Our server was nice & efficient in getting us fed & out in time to go to theatre.
Unfortunately, the food is not as good as it sounds,
The chestnut agnolotti was outstanding BUT the piazzas were mediocre. I enjoyed the venison tartare but the other people at the table did not. They had some interesting wine choices by the glass and a good cocktail menu. Would go by for drinks but not for food as we heard the agnolotti is going off the menu.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. The crust on theGreat food. The crust on the pizza was so good. Light and chewy.
Must try the Alaskan halibut.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience but was surprisedGreat experience but was surprised that the bar did not have cuantro for a cosmopolitan.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to celebrate a birthdayWe went to celebrate a birthday and had a fabulous time. Every dish was delicious. My husband particularly liked the venison tartare and we all loved the shortribs. The salmon and scallops were wonderful and the chocolate parfait for dessert was terrific. Our waitress was helpful and patient. We had a wonderful time!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy experience at NellcoteMy experience at Nellcote was great! It was a great value, and I didn't feel like we were short-shifted on the service just because we had a pre-paid deal. Plus, copies of US weekly and the NYT is a nice touch!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, great food, deliciousAs always, great food, delicious cocktails and service that is attentive without hovering.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI love that place and thatI love that place and that is why I keep on coming back!
Thanks.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular brunch menu, greatSpectacular brunch menu, great service and stunning atmosphere!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Service, Good AmbianceMy friend ordered the fresh spaghetti with the 1 hour egg. It was served room temperature, as if it had been sitting for a minute. She told our waiter, who was excellent, he took her plate back. When he returned, the chef had just re-heated it by putting it back on the grill/skillet. Which meant, the 1 hour egg was now scrambled! So essentially, she had scrambled egg and pasta. Not good. A freshly prepared meal would have been better and more reasonable. We made due with the rest of the food we ordered. Other than that, the ambiance is very nice. The service was great. My food was good. I would go back.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the ambiance and serviceLove the ambiance and service was great! The Gilt City deal was such a great value for brunch. I would go back.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTwo bottle of sparkling water,Two bottle of sparkling water, three plates for dinner, and 3 desserts for 65 dollars. The place is beautiful, and the staff was great. Staff is the reason I give the restaurant 5 stars.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've had two recent visitsWe've had two recent visits to Nellcote. Delicious4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fantastic. Our bartenderFood was fantastic. Our bartender on Friday evening was a little scattered, but we got our food and drink, so all was well.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI'd give it a 4.5 stars. ServiceI'd give it a 4.5 stars. Service was incredibly attentive, the food was nice and it's great to see a place that does portion sizes right.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time here we onlyOur first time here we only had cocktails and liked it so much we wanted to come back asap to try more. We finally got back there a week ago. Nellcote is in the same space where Marché used to be. They gutted the whole place, redesigned it and It looks great. Good food and service all around. Their pizza is really REALLY good if you like the more chewier crust. I think they are open till 2 or 3am so we will definitely stop by for late night eats and good cocktails. Not an expensive place either. Very reasonable.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMloved Nellcote! beautifulloved Nellcote!
beautiful ambiance, delicious food, and great customer service.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEaster BrunchInvited my family for Easter Brunch. We had a great meal and the atmosphere was perfect. My only complaint was that they were out of a few of the drinks (a beer and bloody mary) that a few of us wanted to try.
Overall we had a lot of fun and the atmosphere and noise level was perfect for our group of 5.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great night. AmbienceWe had a great night. Ambience was helped by great music selection. Our waitress was fun and picked out fantastic dishes for us. The cauliflower salad is ridiculous. Followed that up with duck ravioli, and the egg pizza. We were shocked by how good everything was. We will definitely go back.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! highly recommendMy girl friend and I went for dinner one night while she was in town and tried something from each part of the menu. Everything was amazing, the cocktails were strong and delicious and the food was so perfectly unique. I highly recommend the venison tartar - I didn't think I'd like it but it's one of my favorites. Then my boyfriend and I got a Gilt for brunch which included a shared charcuterie plate, 2 cocktails, 2 entrees and 2 sides. My favorites were the lobster hash and our side of granola and berries. Everything tasted so fresh! Our service was also very attentive & friendly. The ambiance changes accordingly for each meal and I loved that. The gorgeous french decor is also amazing!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFour for brunch on a sunnyFour for brunch on a sunny but COLD Saturday were met with a table ready and waiting and service that was attentive without being intrusive or solicitous. The shared plate was a perfect way to start the brunch, just a fabulous "little something" to take the edge off as we perused the menu and got down to the difficult task of choosing main courses and sides from a fabulous array of options. Healthy to decadent, carbs to proteins, cocktails, beer flights and juices, all there for the asking. We highly recommend starting your Saturday at the corner storefront with the orange awning.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBest on Block-Better Than Girl&GoatNellcote is the best restaurant on the block...that includes both sides of the street and the block east (where G & G is located). Everything is impeccably fresh, including the fish, and seasoned and prepared to bring out the taste of the ingredients and make the dish interesting/delicious without overwhelming. And their wine-by-the glass service is excellent, with just enough interesting choices and a good pour.
Perhaps best of all are the deserts, especially the Lemon Tart.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFab food and service. ClassyFab food and service. Classy without the stuffiness. Recommend it highly for a special occasion. Chill atmosphere until the crowds start up around 8pm, but still not uncomfortably loud or crowded.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, AWESOME waitress!Great food, AWESOME waitress! She was knowledgeable and recommended the most delicious items for us to try on the brunch menu.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMgorgeous room - didn't reallygorgeous room - didn't really match the food in style nor level.
carrot salad was nothing special. cauliflower salad was excellent.
pasta dish we had was very good - radiatore with pancetta and sweet potato.
bread we paid for - a bit dry.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ambiance, slickExcellent ambiance, slick decor, good but not outstanding food. Expensive for the amount of food received, and I am not a "big plate" guy at all. Bar was very cool.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience. StaffWonderful experience. Staff was spot on. Highly recommend. Go earlier because it does get loud in there.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss Nellcote - a true gem!I can't recommend Nellcote enough! The food was amazing - our group of 6 ordered a variety of dishes and shared everything. We all agreed it was one of the best meals we've had. I mean, the restaurant mills their own flour in-house - how can you go wrong?! Our waitress was wonderful and expertly guided our selections. The space is stunning and has a really energetic yet still elegant vibe, but not at all stuffy. Don't miss Nellcote!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMUpon greeting us, we mentionedUpon greeting us, we mentioned we were celebrating a special occasion, and even 2.5 hrs later the hostess remembered and said congrats on the way out, which was really thoughtful. We found the food to be imaginative and delicious. We enjoyed the duck agnolotti, sunnyside up pizza and chocolate parfait was to die for. Our server had lots of great advice for us on what she liked and everything she recommended was spot on. The biggest issue was the pacing of our meal with long stretches between courses without checkins from our server so meal probably took an hour longer than it needed to. That aside, we loved the space and food and look forwarded to returning.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at Nellcote was greatThe food at Nellcote was great - very innovative and delicious. We were there during restaurant week, but the ala carte menu was much more interesting than the fixed price option. Very young crowd and funky decor leading to a lot of noise. Luckily we were there early (only reservations we could get on a Saturday night with 4 weeks notice) and the noise level allowed good conversation until near the end of dinner.2/2/2013 12:00:00 AMNellcote:tres bien!A unique restaurant with so many choices, it begs for a return visit. Imaginative cocktails and a varied wine list; unusual pizzas with toppings that work together; different pastas that all call for a try; meat and fish dishes like venison tartars, halibut with caviar, and more are all amazingly tasty and satisfying. The place is pulsing, the service excellent, and it's a overall great time.1/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall plates were a treatSmall plates were a treat and hit the spot. Salads, in particular, were delicious. Lovely ambiance. We would go back.1/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter seeing recent reviewsAfter seeing recent reviews about the poor service we were happy to see that the service was quite attentive. During our visit not only did the waitress stop by frequently, we also were visited by someone I presume was a supervisor as well as the manager to ensure all was well. Perhaps they were responding to the recent Open Table reviews.
The food was quite good in terms of quality, presentation and flavor. This is a small plate restaurant and the portions were, therefore, small. Whether the amount of food represents a good value for the price is questionable. Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable evening and would certainly return.12/23/2012 12:00:00 AM
