Good cocktails.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMy MistakeThe service was really excellent, and our server was kind enough to inform me that the pork noodles were indeed noodles made from pork skin, and my decision to order it was purely adventurousness on my part. That said, it wasn't particularly flavorful, and I would certainly shy away from that particular entree in the future. On the other hand, my wife's trout was excellent, as were the braised greens I ordered.
The decor, designed to create the appearance of a rustic barn interior or something, feels like a art directed half measure. I get it, the name of the restaurant celebrates the Ludites, who rejected modernity and technology, but I just feel surrounded by dust catchers.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFour of us (2 couples) metFour of us (2 couples) met at Ned Ludd for a quick dinner before going to a play at Portland Playhouse. We drank some tasty rose wines and split 4-5 dishes, mostly salads & veggies and one trout. The greens and veggies were seasonal and the dressings and seasonings perfect. The plates were more than adequate for sharing 4-ways. The trout was de-boned, baked whole and delicious!. The clams and the game hen on the March menu were both outstanding. Our bottle of Pinot was lovely. It's low key but perfect. Everything is hand made and beautifully presented. The staff is efficient and nice. The chefs don't seem capable of making mistakes. Frequently I go out to dinner and regret spending the money on food I could make at home on an off night. Skip Dessert.All the food was exceptionally good in both taste and presentation--except for dessert. We ordered the "chocolate chip cookie". What came was a burnt brownie in a cast iron skillet. Cute presentation but there was no getting around that is was most certainly not a chocolate chip cookie. We told the waitress that it was burnt and she said they call that "oven kissed". Hmmm. She took it back and took it off our bill. It was a shame to end with a burnt brownie. Perhaps they need to hire a pastry chef.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
