  • Public Transit: The Trimet Bus #9-Powell/Broadway can be boarded on Broadway Ave in the Portland City Center. The bus crosses NE Alberta at 27th, a few blocks from our location. Broadway and Radio Cabs are a good option for travelers. Ample bike parking available.

Please note that Alberta Street is closed to traffic on the last Thursday of each month, June through September, for the Last Thursday Arts Festival.   • "I don't think I've ever used the word "fabulous" so many times in one evening. The food was delectable. I wanted to savor every bite of every course. The service was superb: just attentive enough without being intrusive. The wine we had was also amazing - as we don't know all the ins and outs of vineyards and vintages, our server made a suggestion for us and we were not disappointed. The seating is cozy at best - the only slight drawback of the whole experience. We could easily have held a conversation with the group at the next table without raising our voices. But everyone was enjoying their food so much that no one was annoyingly loud, so all was well once we grew accustomed to sitting near our neighbors. Highly recommended!"

  • "As a vegetarian, I was excited to try this restaurant for inspiration. It did not disappoint. The staff was attentive, but did not hover. The food was divine. The menu changes often, but if the cream of sunchoke soup with celeriac, parsnip, fennel & black truffle and the roasted maitake & pear with meyer lemon, polenta and a shaving of mild horseradish are on the menu, I highly recommend trying them. My friend and I had the four course price-fixed meal, which was too much for us. Next time I will have two, maybe three courses. The amuse bouche was one of my favorite taste of the night. It was so good I wished it was one of the courses! While it has a romantic ambience, all foodies will feel at home."

  • "My wife and I have dined at least half a dozen times at Natural Selection in the 3 years they've been open. When we went last year, we were a bit disappointed with the menu, but we're glad that didn't stop us from going back. As always the service was prompt and superb, and as usual the food was fantastic. I had seen in advance that both choices for one course on the prix fixe menu had ingredients that my wife could not eat, so I mentioned it on the OpenTable reservation form. Someone from Natural Selection called me to inquire as to possible alternatives, and they seemed genuinely happy to accomodate her needs. The result was another splendid special occasion (my birthday!) for us."

  • "Took vegan friends here to celebrate their Halfiversary (married 6 months). How refreshing to find a gourmet vegetarian restaurant that offers many special diet options. Highly recommend the 4 course prix-fixed dinner . So worth it. Every dish was delicious with the right combination of salty/sweet//sour and oh so FRESH ingredients. If you don't have to drive home afterwards, do the wine paring with dinner. For $25, they bring out the best wines to compliment each dish. Knowledgable and friendly wait staff add to the positive dining experience and you can observe the kitchen staff as they artfully construct each plate under the watchful eye of the restaurant's owner. This dining room is a bit tight so ask for a window table if possible."

  • "When initially reading about the Chef and his experience, we keyed in on the fact that he'd interned at a Napa restaurant called Unbutu (sp?). Good food, but notably SMALL food. I was ready to be hungry when we left Natural Selection, but not only was the food outstanding and imaginative, there was plenty of it!! They allowed us to mix and match the prefix menus to our liking, and the wine pairing was both reasonably priced and generously poured. The service was both attentive and friendly, with just the right amount of interaction. Once last note, my favorite cocktail is an Old Fashioned. These guys have a "Spanish" Old Fashioned that is a must!"

Remarkably creative and delicious food. The service is excellent and they have a very nice selection of wine and drinks, including non-alcoholic drinks. This is one of Portland's best restaurants- period. And certainly right at the top of the list of outstanding vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the US."

  • "My daughter and I had the four-course fixed price menu. We each selected a different menu, so that we were able to try both options for each course. As an experienced foodie, the food at Natural Selection is interesting, lots of different ingredients, flavors and textures in each dish. However, some of the courses seemed overly complicated, too many ingredients, too many flavors, and unfortunately, not that tasty. I think the food would actually be tastier and more interesting if they tried to simplify the food and focus on creating the most flavorful and tasty courses, that bring out the natural flavor and goodness of the ingredients. I'm on the fence. Not sure if I would come back to this restaurant the next time I am in Portland."

  • "If you are ever trying to convince someone that a vibrant, flavorful and satisfying meal does not require meat, you only have to take them to dinner here one time, and that argument is over. Rarely have I left a restaurant as satisfied as I was after this meal. The ambiance was cool and serene, the food was extremely flavorful and beautifully presented, and the service hit just the right note of being accommodating without being annoying. The only question after this meal was how soon can we do it again."

  • "This was our first visit to Natural Selection and we will definitely be back. The service was good, very attentive and fairly knowledgeable about the menu items. We had the winter squash & leek risotto and it was to die for. Smooth creamy risotto, fantastic truffle sauce that melted in your mouth. The desserts were wonderful too. I had the cinnamon ginger sorbet and my boyfriend had the carrot cake. I loved the sorbet, wonderful mix of flavors. I recommend getting reservations a week or two ahead of time as they fill up fast."
