A word from Natsumi Restaurant
Natsumi Breaks New Ground with Innovative Modern Japanese Cuisine. Barbara Matsumura founder of Haru Restaurants, has teamed up again with Chef Haru Konagaya to create this strikingly original destination. Two separate experiences in two adjacent sites, an elegant restaurant and a trendy Tokyo-chic bar/lounge. Natsumi specializes in modern Japanese cuisine with a touch of Italian ingredients; offering an array of creative dishes such as, sashimi arugula salad, new style yellowtail carpaccio, and lobster green tea ravioli. The innovative menu relies on unique preparations with dynamic flavors. The wine list is international, with white, red, sparkling wines, and champagne by the glass and bottle. The restaurant is divided into distinct dining areas, a cozy space with intimate booths, a sushi bar where diners can watch the chefs compose, and in the front, the windows open to the street. The whole room is infused with a warm golden glow and earth tones.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Cute ,small, nice for date night. Attentive staff. Food was nicely presented and served at proper temperature. I had the tempera dish. It was just ok, while the shrimp were delicious, the scallops and fish had a peculiar bleached taste. My sister had another dish with shrimp and fish. She enjoyed the shrimp , but she did not like the fish. The lobster dumplings were good but not any better than a take out place. Great location directly across the street from the Gershwin Theatre."

  • "I was looking for a non-touristy place for a quick dinner before going out for the night, and I came across natsumi on Open Table's site. I gave it a try, and was very pleasantly surprised. The sushi was fresh and excellent with a lot of flaver, plus it was very reasonably priced for the quality. I would definitely go back and recommend others who enjoy sushi to give Natsumi a try."

  • "Really excellent service and lots of food for an overall very good value. They were totally full by the time we left at 6:30 PM on a Saturday. Obviously this is a very popular local restaurant and a good choice for theatre goers. Just not our venue, we prefer something quieter and a bit more elegant."

  • "Great sushi and a great location near all the theaters and close to Times Square. Definitely recommend."

  • "My wife and I dined here after arriving late in the day in Times Square to celebrate my wife's birthday. Natsumi has some of the best sushi we've ever eaten. The salmon jalapeno carpaccio was an excellent starter. The Natsumi Roll, Spicy Soft Shell Crab Roll, and Eel Roll then all blew us away elegantly served on a beautiful tray. To end we shared the lychee sorbet which was absolutely refreshing. We would definitely go back next time we're in Times Square."

  • "Exactly what the other reviews say. It's perfectly located in the theatre district. The menu is vast and has a little for everyone. Very quietly, but has a vast space for lager groups. Definitely a a romantic stop before or after your broadway show. Make sure to let your server know you have tickets, and show them. You can get a free desert or 10% off. The entire menu has a taste of Italian flair, which makes it stand out from many other sushi spots. Evenly priced with other restaurants and worth every penny!!"

  • "Always visit Natsumi when I am in NYC. I consider this to be the best all around Sushi spot in NY - Led by Tony who pulls the whole place together - Don't miss the Natsumi Roll Thank you for a stellar evening!"

  • "Perfect for pre-theater! Food was very good, we would definitely come back. A good lighter addition to our mostly Italian theater rotation."

  • "Easily accessible by train, the location has two sides, one for the bar, one for the restaurant. This visit we met a friend for dinner to enjoy their "restaurant week" menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the craftsmanship of the drinks we ordered and knew from that moment we had found the right place that night. I recommend this place, you wont be disappointed. Next time we'll start with some friends in the bar, hope to see you there."

  • "for a person that doesn't live in the city or goes that often, this place is amazing. so excited to find an awesome Japanese in the city that is not pricy at all, especially on a college student budget. going to be going back and telling everyone to go there"

  • "Started out rocky as the hostess did not acknowledge us for a few minutes. She was conversing with another Asian woman and did not even say good evening. After we were seated at the sushi bar, it was another 10 minutes or so before we were able to provide our drink order. Things started looking up after the sushi chef prepared our food. The chefs were friendly, creative and made great food, as well as presentation. The owner came over and provided us with a wonderful appetizer on the house that she had made. Nice evening, good food, will return."

  • "Went here for dinner. I had the rock shrimp tempura (poor; it was drizzled with a spicy and sour sauce which I did not like, and the shrimp was quite bland) and the Sushi & Sashimi plate (the California roll was the best part of the plate; the fish seemed fresh but the quality was less than what you'd expect for the price you pay). Service was friendly but needs a bit of refinement. The dining area was cramped. The bar area looked nicer and more relaxed."

  • "We went for a quick bite before a show. Service was prompt, food good and we got on time. Recommended for pre theater dinner."

  • "It's a perfect spot in the heart of the theater district. Quick good food a bit pricey with a few drinks @$12 each. We ate the before seeing WICKED @7p on a Wednesday. We hade a 5p reservation and was out by 6:30 leaving more then enough time to get to the show across the street. The lounge was packed , which is on the other side of the resturant, as we were leaving. We had 1 app, 1 entree , 3 regular rolls and 3 cocktails for $91.00. They were offering resturant week prices @ $38pp 1 app 1 entree 1 dessert ..no drinks. We passed on that. Over all good choice for a pre show or after show drinks."

  • "Excellent food. Wonderful service. Friendly, warm atmosphere. A bit noisy, but that may be because it was a Friday night, crowded, and we were seated in the bar area. Do have a cocktail, each of us had a different one and all were extremely good. Went during restaurant week, and half of our party ordered from that menu while the other half ordered from the regular menu. No difference in portion size. Actually couldn't finish my entree of shrimp and chicken, which had a bit of spice and was excellent. Ordered the green tea gnocchi appetizer because i read that it was good, and it didn't disappoint -it was delicious. Tempura cheesecake dessert was wonderful. Would definitely recommend, and will return."

  • "Excellent food - I had sushi, and others in my party had a mix of other orders, all of it delicious. The service, however, was very slow. The waitstaff left us to our own devices for very long stretches of time, and we had trouble getting their attention when we needed anything. Particularly surprising for a restaurant in the theater district where presumably many of the patrons have showtimes to meet. Worth it despite the slow service, so add extra time into your reservation."

  • "Fun and a hip ambiance, Natsumi scores well in all categories, but the service was superior. Carolina and the rest of the team made our experience extraordinary. They really act as if they care about you having a wonderful time."

  • "Pretty ordinary Japanese restaurant. My favorite is sushi is uni which is a good bellweather dish. When it's not in peak form you really know it. This was on the other side of fresh. Service very friendly and nice."

  • "There's cheaper sushi in the area but the quality here is higher."

  • "The restaurant was lovely and the evening started off with a bang. The service staff were excellent. All these great experiences were just a preamble to the marvelous food. Our orders came beautifully and unexpectedly plated. Everything we tried was excellent, and we cannot wait to return to try the rest of the items on their extensive, intriguing menu."

  • "Excellent food, large portions, intelligent waitservice. But much incompetence elsewhere. First the host. The host insisted we had no reservation but could seat us anyway. I showed him the OpenTable reservation on my iPhone and he _still_ insisted we had no reservation. 28 minutes later, while eating at the restaurant, I got an email from OpenTable saying the resaurant had just canceled our reservation. Then the bartender. First he said he could make an Irish coffee, but then he hesitated and asked what was in it besides coffee and Baileys. I explained it was coffee and Irish Whiskey (not Baileys) and whipped cream on top. He brought me a mug of coffee, a pitcher of cream, and a shot of Irish Whiskey on the side."

  • "We were meeting a friend from outside the city and wanted a good place to eat near the theater. We picked Natsumi and were glad that we did. The arrangement of tables is great; privacy and space coupled with a restful decor. We were not rushed; rare in NYC. The food, especially the sushi, was very good. The only drawback was a flavorless Japanese tea. Overall, good location; nice folks; very good food."

  • "Food was excellent. Service was ok, maybe because it was lunch time in NYC and the place was quite busy. I will defintely be back. Sushi was awesome!!"

  • "I just started a new get fit regimen. The food here fits in perfectly with my regimen. Extremely well prepared tasty cuisine. Selections are naturally low fat. I didn't feel guilty about enjoying every morsel. The lychee martins are the best I've had. Made with real fruit purée. No shortcuts taken. I would surely dine here again."
