A word from National Exemplar
In April of 1983, The National Exemplar began operation in the Mariemont, Ohio landmark, The Mariemont Inn. The Inn was constructed in the mid-1920's as a small piece of the very unique Mariemont community, founded by Mary Emery. The National Exemplar Restaurant was named after learning that Mary Emery once referred to her developing community as the National Exemplar, meaning national model community. The National Exemplar Restaurant is a full service, neighborly restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. We only use the freshest quality ingredients to prepare each meal. Our goal is to serve great food, provide friendly and professional service in a clean and relaxing atmosphere.Continued

- FoodieTerriDined on 11/22/2014We went for friends' birthdays, sat in the bar which is great, wonderful waiter, great rye bread and drinks...the veal was disappointinting as old-fashioned " schnitzel end", suggest modernization.....chicken good but bland...roast beef ok.... Some of the recipes need updating Ask for the bar, hamburgers might be best betSpecial Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- ExemplarRonADined on 11/15/2014Have used numerous times for brunch. Verry reliableSpecial Features:
- November 1, 2014BobRVIPDined on 11/1/2014It was the first time at this restaurant for my wife and I and it is our new favorite place. It was fantastic!. While not a large menu, there is something for everyone. The hungarian mushroom soup was fabulous. I have never tasted better liver and onions and my wife loved the veal. The service was fantastic and they made a great bourbon manhattan. We will be backSpecial Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Always a relaxing and pleasant experience.CarolynRVIPDined on 10/31/2014We really enjoy the beautiful art-deco styled architecture, the great food and excellent service at The National Exemplar. The menu is not huge, but it has a good mix of items to choose from and everything is very well done. The chicken is a simple yet scrumptious meal that is a perfect portion, which I prefer to a too-large one that I'd feel obligated to stuff in or take home and probably toss 3 days later. Servers are always very attentive and give this a more upscale feel, while the food seems more rustic. It's a nice mix and we enjoy it every visit.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- First time dinner at NE!vegdinerDined on 10/29/2014This was our first time to have dinner here. I loved the new Fall seasonal menu - many new dishes to try. And I was VERY pleased that they had several good vegetarian selections. The squash salad was a very delightful & delicious variation on salad choices! However they did not take in my request for a table by the window in the dining room, not the bar. But we were comfortable sitting in a large booth.Special Features:
- OpenTable Diner Since 2008Dined on 10/7/2014Not a great selection for children. Offering is pretty limited. Put simply - surprised they don’t offer fries for a kid’s burger.
- group of 8 Class Reunion CommiteeIHHS8Dined on 10/6/2014We were very happy with our dining experience. We especially were happy they gave us a round table as we needed to talk about our class reunion plans and this was a request which was honored. The food and service was excellent and we had no problem with the noise level or being rushed . We all expressed we would be happy to return here again.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Myopineopine5Dined on 9/27/2014We dine at this restaurant once or twice a month. The quality of the food is not closely watched. Prime rib last month was tasty and lean, this month dry, overcooked and very fatty. Pointed out the quality problem to the manager and did not get a satisfactory response.Special Features:
- Not an Exemplar experienceHarrytheNeatDined on 9/27/2014The veal was tough and when returned, I ask that the steak be cooked medium-medium plus. It was served rare. Pretty disappointing experience.Special Features:
- Fallen StarUnhappyVIPDined on 9/25/2014Been going for years as a wonderful place New management has destroyed it. Won't be going back a great loss now!a
- Bad Day FishingGlenVIPDined on 9/20/2014Mussels have been better in the past. Maybe just a bad day of fishing. Otherwise, great service and outdoor dining on a nice evening can't be beat.Special Features:
- would have loved to have ICE water.35thanniversaryDined on 9/20/2014Had a great time--my husband and my sister and her husband. Food was great. The prime rib could have used a little seasoning but everything else was excellent. Can't wait to go back.Special Features:
- Great Time With FamilyOpenTable Diner Since 2011Dined on 9/18/2014Enjoy sharing small plates...Meat & Cheese plate, Mussels, Lamb Sliders with a great watermelon salad. Patio is beautiful and service was spot on. Can't wait to return!Special Features:
- Comfortable in the best wayhappyDined on 9/12/2014The food here is thoughtfully prepared and charmingly presented. There are both what appear to be long time favorites (you don't see liver and onions at many restaurants anymore) and more modern dishes. The grilled peaches are great!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- arty4Dined on 9/5/2014Great new menu, reasonable prices and excellent serviceSpecial Features:
- Outside dinnerCVNPDined on 8/31/2014It is a great place to sit outside and enjoy very good food.Special Features:
- Excellent prep of creative dishesWanderingDinerDined on 8/28/2014Had the grilled peaches app, very nice dish that we will try to reproduce at home. House salads more than basic. Entrees- sweet corn and crab pasta; grilled salmon with sautéed chard, both very good. Chard was a bit tough and a different green may be a better choice for this prep. Creme brûlée had good flavor, but would prefer served warm, so obviously not made to order. Add a cocktail each and tab is ~$100 with tip. Quality met expectations for this price range. Sat on small patio with live musician playing which is nice and compensates for the noisy street. Service - prompt and not overbearing. Will return, but would like more seafood options. Limited number will be ok as long as they change.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- ServiceOpenTable Diner Since 2010Dined on 8/23/2014I have eaten at the National Exemplar many times, and this was the first time I had to wait to be served. Usually, the waiter was right there as soon as we sat down, but this time, we waited 10 minutes and then had to ask the busboy to find our waiter. Very disappointing.Special Features:
- High Quality and well doneOpenTable Diner Since 2008Dined on 8/22/2014It's always a pleasure to dine here. The food is creative and always interesting. The almonds appetizer was a very tasty and creative first timeSpecial Features:
- Dinner SurpriseStevebucknutDined on 8/5/2014I'm accustomed to having breakfast or lunch at the National Exemplar - first time having dinner. When it was suggested by a colleague, admittedly, I wasn't excited! However, what a great surprise - a totally different atmosphere and a great menu! Will definitely be returning for dinner.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Nice, romanticanderson11Dined on 7/29/2014First time dining here. The food was wonderful. The service was amazing. The atmosphere was nice, quite and romantic enough. Overall everything was great.Special Features:

- Dave MAnniversaryDinnerDined on 7/28/2014Every thing went well. Prompt service and waiter did not "hover." Would take out of town guests there.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Great spot for brunch or dinnerRestaurantRunnerDined on 7/24/2014Not far from Kenwood or Downtown, this restaurant serves excellent dishes with top notch service. Wait staff is very attentive and fluid. They do not rush the meal, yet are punctual with bringing out each course. The dishes are always well presented, and full of flavour.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- dancingdivaDined on 7/22/2014I have been eating at this restaurant for many years. I prefer fresh fish and other healthy items of which there is normally an excellent selection. The pace is good--attentive but not rushed. I've enjoyed lunch and dinner on every day of the week. Location is central for many friends I dine with.Special Features:
- Nice place for outdoor mealCarolynRVIPDined on 7/4/2014We like it here - but the mushroom ravioli should be bigger portion.Special Features:
- Great RestaurantSueZDined on 6/30/2014This is a very charming restaurant. The ambiance is quaint, and it seems like an historic building. Patio dining is our favorite spot. The food is great and we love the mini deserts.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- GlenVIPDined on 6/28/2014Consistently excellent food. Mussels were excellent. Server was very slow to the table (perhaps he wasn't told we were at an outdoor table?) and was a bit quirky, but overall a good experience.Special Features:
- Good Food, Slow ServiceTrains1VIPDined on 6/24/2014The food was very good, but the service was very slow. To top that off, the waiter threw away a leftover that was supposed to be boxed and tried to cover it up by claiming that another guest's leftover at our table was ours! No such luck, since the other persons leftover was already boxed and sitting on the table when he removed our plate. The manager made it right by offering us a gift certificate; I wasn't sure that I wanted to return to the restaurant, so I asked the manager to simply reduce the price of the entre on the bill to cover the lost half., which she did.
- Doc1Dined on 6/23/2014Excellent menu, beautifully presented. Manager and all staff go the last mile always to assure a fine dining experience. The servers know their items,Can explain advise, direct and really are consummate professionals.Special Features:
- opine5Dined on 6/14/2014Food quality seems to be declining. Prime rib had more fat, smaller portion, and less flavor.Special Features:
- GreatDinerVIPDined on 6/11/2014Chase is one of the best chefs in town. He is respectively changing the menu over from the old traditional to a top flight unique experience. Certainly short on atmosphere, but well worth the visit!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- dinergalbertDined on 6/7/2014There were 4 people in our party and we all felt that the food was wonderful; both in taste and in preparation. This restaurant is truly a gem. My wife and I had the liver and it was fabulous, as was the mushroom soup. Prices were very fair and our service was excellent.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Nice to eat outside but noisy...CarolynRVIPDined on 6/6/2014Eating outside has the same great service and food that comes hot and quickly, which is not the case at some other outdoor venues. However, as quaint as the area looks - this is on Hwy 50 - and the many trucks going by, even at just 25 mph, are very noisy. If you can still relax and just not expect to chat when a truck goes by - it's a very comfortable way to enjoy a meal.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- SingVIPDined on 5/24/2014Reservation was not honored...we waited 20 minutes for a table outside. 6:30 reservation....food not served until 8:00....food was cold. Totally unacceptable. We were given free desserts and they did not charge us for our cold dinners, which were not consumed...
- excellent placeHowardDined on 5/22/2014This place meets high standards-The hostess/Mgr? (Lisa) remembers us & we only visit this city once a yr. This yr. she gifted us each a glass of fine wine when she learned it was our anniversary. Excellent place...good interesting food served by an excellent staff. 5 stars.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Anniversary CelebrationTeriDined on 5/12/2014I invited my parents to dinner for their 52nd wedding anniversary. We all started with the Hungarian mushroom soup, which was great and unlike any mushroom soup I have had before. My Mom loved her filet and said it was the best she has had in a long while. My Dad had the salmon filet and enjoyed that a great deal. I have had lamb before, but never a lamb strip, so I gave that a try. It was prepared beautifuly and was tender and tasted great. We enjoy coming here anytime of day and would reccommend it to others. This is even the place we selected for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary brunch with the whole family.Special Features:
- So Great!BOB45Dined on 5/11/2014Great for groups up to eight in dining area, private rooms for larger, small tables perfect for two. All age groups: young couples, family tables with grandma and grandpa, and empty nesters. Food is always well prepared. Price is mid range. Servers and management want your business and show their concern for your dining experience.Special Features:
- AARP ApprovedGlenVIPDined on 5/3/2014To say its an older crowd is an understatement. That said, the food is excellent. We ate at the bar which made things feel a bit more "hip". The mussels were outstanding. Beer selection above average.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Great place for quiet dinnerWillieDined on 5/3/2014Beautiful setting, excellent food. Service is fantastic. Would recommend for a quiet dinner. Had the prime rib - the best I've ever had.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Great food, great serviceOpenTable Diner Since 2009Dined on 5/2/2014We tried a few different things, crab cake (best crab cake I have ever had), scallops, and veal Suzanne. It all was super delicious! Our waitress was awesome too. She brought our meal out split between 2 plates. The whole staff there was super responsive.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
