Nathaniel's At The Hawthorne HotelA taste of old New EnglandNathaniel's at the Hawthorne Hotel is trip back in time (in a good way). Both the hotel and the restaurant have the feel of old New England. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being pushy. The wine list is adequate but not extensive; Vinophiles should look elsewhere. The restaurant also has an adequately stocked bar if you desire a cocktail. The menu is focused. Clearly the chef is intent on executing a few classic dishes very well (which they do). The atmosphere is quiet and reserved (low lights and a live piano player). The t-shirt and jeans crowd or families with small children will definitely feel out of place here. That's not necessarily a bad thing.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious meal in a formal settingWe went early on a Friday night and were therefore able to take advantage of a new offering - complimentary mesclun salad and chef's choice of dessert if you order entrees before 5:30 pm. We both enjoyed the very fresh salad and mix of hot rolls with that were brought to our table along with an herb and cheese dipping oil. We then had the beef short ribs and the shrimp and scallop sofia, which were both delicious. Upon a recommendation we ordered the apple blossom for dessert, and that was served hot with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce - yummy! Our waitress, Judy, was attentive and kept our water glasses full, which was much appreciated. The dining room is formal with a quiet elegance, and live piano music comes later.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMReliably good foodHotel restaurants tend to be safe places to dine, with imagination left behind. The chef at Nathaniel's combines both safe offerings with some more creative fare. It's not an extensive menu, but the selections are enough for all preferences and the food is reliably good. The live piano is not too loud, and adds a very mellow tone to the atmosphere. We probably won't make a special trip to Salem just to dine at Nathaniel's, but when we find ourselves in Salem, Nataniel's will certainly be a restaurant to dine at again.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treatNathaniel's at The Hawthorne Hotel always lives up to our expectations. The food is creative plus you can order demi portions rather than splitting an entree. The ambience is formal but cozy. Sunday brunch includes live music and a prix fixe option if you want. Dinners are also excellent, as well as, everyday breakfasts.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on a quiet night andWe went on a quiet night and the food and service was very good. It is more fit for a special occasion or celebration.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI love nathanial's. The foodI love nathanial's. The food is always so good and the service is awesome.its a nice mellow place with affordable meal choices and each one is yummy!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNathaniel's is very goodMy wife and I stayed at the Hawthorn Hotel where Nathaniel's is located. It was nice to be able to walk off the elevator and into the restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the service and menu not to mention the old world elegance. Very nice experience.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBeacon DinerWent to Nathaniels for their Salem Restaurant Week 3 course for $25 special. This historic hotel dining room complete with continuous background live piano is a gem! Most Restaurant Week menus are very limited. Here you can have, with few exceptions, virtually anything on the menu. That means, there were 4 different seafood main courses and 4 meat and vegan main courses to chose from. All creatively prepared. Our 3 main courses included shrimp and scallops, swordfish, and monk fish. Appetiser and dessert menues were also broad, fresh and delicious. Varied and not overly pricey wine list. You could pay double in Boston and not have this good a total experience.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding restaurantNathaniel's has an old world elegance that is in sync with the Hawthorne Hotel. My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Nathaniel's and would recommend it highly to anyone while staying or visiting Salem.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PMNever had a bad meal or serviceNever had a bad meal or service here. Best deal for Restaurant Week around too, as you can choose almost anything on their menu, as opposed to a prix fixe meal. Choosing is the hardest part, since everything is sooo good!! Already looking forward to my next visit!1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
