Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great time celebrating a birthday here on a Friday night. We had 8:30 reservations and were seated on time, even though the place was packed! The server was knowledgeable and friendly. The bartender made a fabulous drink based on my preferences. And everyone else enjoyed their drinks, especially the ones that came in special glasses, etc. The food was out of this world!! We had 4 dishes and everyone "cleaned their plates"! The spatzl is to die for, my goulash was impressive, my husband raved about the cabbage dish and the desserts wrapped it up perfectly!! I feel like they go the extra mile with everything!! We will be back as soon as possible!!! "

  • "Food and service are superb. They have very good house wine in carafe, that is very reasonably priced. I have been here about 10 times and never had a bad meal. This is one of the better restaurants in the Silicon Valley."

  • "Found this hidden gem after a recommendation from one of the employees whom i met while dining elsewhere. I have been there 6 times since then, which was less than a year ago. The owner is always around ( I am assuming he is the owner) and very accommodating and friendly. A bit too lit up and tightly packed in, but still an amazing experience. I will keep returning. "

  • "At Naschmarkt my husband and I enjoyed decadent, palate-pleasing and hearty Austrian cuisine. We began our culinary journey with the quark spätzle which a rich, smoked chicken in cream sauce that I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. The flavors are dense and hearty yet texturally so light that one could consume this starter as an entree and feel satiated yet not overburdened. We also had the classic wiener schnitzel, Hungarian beef goulash, braised red cabbage and potato salad- all fantastic! For dessert we had the apple strudel and the Salzburger Nockerl (vanilla souffle with a berry compote and Greek yogurt ice cream). These sweets are so good that I would come back to the restaurant just to have it! This restaurant is a must try."

  • "Naschmarkt offers wonderfully reimagined treasures of Austrian cuisine. For example, the cabbage rolls were a deliciously deconstructed version of a classic dish: mini Savoy cabbage leaves cup the tasty and lean meat filling, no strings, no soggy cabbage leaves, no bland gravy! And the warm Apfelstrudel for dessert transported me back to Cafe Eiles in Vienna! Coffee is served with warm, steamed milk, as it should be."

  • "Very good serving, great cooking and nice arrangement. Fabulous wine selection. Large list of Austrian whites and reds! Classical Austrian desserts. It was great to select it for B-day party!"

  • "My husband and I have been here several times, an we often bring friends. The food is fantastic and something different for this area. The servers are so pleasant and very knowledgeable about the menu. If you haven't tried Naschmarkt yet, you really should. Love this place!"

  • "So noisy and so crowded. And, the waiters kept bumping into my chair though I moved. Also we sat next to the bar.The food was excellent but the frantic atmosphere is not one we wish to have when out to dinner."

  • "An unusual menu but everything is so-o-o good. Perfectly prepared! We felt we were on vacation in Austria."

  • "We had a gift certificate for the restuarant and invited another couple to join us. The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive to our needs and very cheerful. She had completed knowledge of the menu. The food was very good and we never felt rushed even though it is a small facility. All and all, we had a great meal and dessert and a fun evening. Would definitely go again."

  • "We just love this neighborhood gem and we do not live in Campbell. It is always excellent service and taste food. I just love the SALZBURGER NOCKERL for dessert. It is a Fluffy vanilla soufflé with blueberry compote and a new twist sour cream ice cream/sorbet. It was so good! As always, thank you for making me look like a foodie superstar with my out of town guests."

  • "I had the wiener schnitzel, and although it looked wonderful the crust had no flavor. I was really disappointed. I started with the garlic soap, and that was delicious. My favorite was the the vanilla souffle. Unfortunately won't be going back; too expensive for no flavor main course. cute place."

  • "Proper service, especially at a restaurant, is hard to find. This restaurant had great service from beginning to end. The food was delicious. I had to make the reservation 3 weeks in advance to eat at the most popular time (6:30-8:00). Overall, great experience."

  • "Best in San Jose, consistently great service, food, wine. Always top-notch. The classics are rich, but delicious. The lighter fare is exceptional. How does one pair sauerkraut with Arctic char? Here you will see and it is fantastic. How does one offer house-made "German" fennel sausage and serve it with pasta? Come find out! This is the top restaurant in San Jose. There's a reason that tables are a bot hard to get. Book early!"

  • "Very good, interesting modern Austrian/German food, which cannot be found in many restaurants. Given the prices, the portions were pretty small. For example, only 2 small scallops in a $16 appetizer seemed pricey. The wine list is very interesting too, and pairs nicely with the food. I'd suggest a few more by the glass choices."

  • "Food was wonderful and the service couldn't be better. The after dinner grappa and desert wine offering made for a nice finish to the evening."

  • "I am from a German background and was looking forward to a good European meal. Although Naschmarkt Restaurant is Austrian, they have most of the same foods, so I was taken aback when my rouladen arrived as ground beef stuffed in cabbages. Everything tasted great, but rouladen is meat rolled with onions, pickles, bacon, and mustard inside. This was nothing like the traditional meal. However, I really did enjoy the Marie Antoinette cocktails, scallops, cheese purse butter lettuce salad, and the coffee afterwards."

  • "Naschmarkt offers classic Austrian flavor with a modern design. When people think of central European food, they imagine lots of starches and meats in heavy fatty sauces. Naschmarkt draws upon the rich earthy flavors from the European palate, but with a deft balance, that lightens the presentation and heightens the satisfaction. A must try in Campbell."

  • "Always wonderful, always 5 stars, this time no exception. Pasta had changed again, as usual, this time with wonderful house-made fennel sausage with peppers. Fantastic. Excellent wine list. All of the great food and service matched by the always-fantastic greeting and top-notch service. Can't wait to go again."

  • "From the warm greeting, the utmost professional service, to the ambiance, the stage is set for an unforgettable evening and your expectations are set very, very high. Then the food comes, and you find that it exceeds your expectations. How do they do this EVERY night, no matter if a Tuesday or a Friday? My wife and I dined with my brother and his wife. The perfect end to a lovely visit from them, we enjoyed the Arctic char (yes, an Austrian restaurant excels with fish), the classics, and a carafe or two of very nice Austrian wines. Come for the atmosphere, the food, the service, and enjoy new wines along the way. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

  • "Having learned of Naschmarkt Restaurant during a broadcast of "Check, Please! Bay Area" on KQED, it was notable that it received strikingly positive reviews from all, three diners. Having gone there with very high expectations, our expectations were exceeded by the quality of the food served and by the attentive, yet unobtrusive service provided. With a small outside dining area in which space heaters are used in the winter and a main area with an open kitchen bordered by a bar where one can eat, the noise level was surprisingly reasonable. Each dish we enjoyed from appetizers, to entrees to the dessert category were outstanding. We were thoroughly pleased by our dining experience. NOTE: Appetizer portions are particularly small."

  • "Before I went, I told my wife, I hope this restaurant is "good" and not just "good for Austrian". There is a reason there aren't a lot of Austrian restaurants (compared to Italian, French, Indian, Mexican). It's because the food is not all that exciting. And this restaurant falls into the "good for Austrian" category. It doesn't compare to other cuisines. The food was well prepared, but truthfully the Jaeger Schnitzel I had could have been provided at a wedding buffet... nothing spectacular. Same with my wife's Goulash."

  • "We were early for our reservation, and were directed to the bar. With a direct view of the kitchen, we elected to have our meal there. The food was authentic and excellent, and the wine list was considerable. We enjoyed watching the expertise of the chefs, and the bartender made pairing recommendations that enhanced the meal We'll be back!"

  • "Hands down this is a top 10 all time restaurant for me - and I've lived in SF and NYC and dined all over the world! Delicious Austrian food (my grandmother was Austrian) with modern twists, inventive combinations and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. I've never ordered anything I didn't love, but the spaetzle is always my favorite. And anything with pork belly, ragu or slow braising. :)"

  • "We went to celebrate my brother's birthday. My wife and I split a butter lettuce appetizer and we both had the wiener schnitzel. My brother had the the onion soup and seafood pasta. Dessert was bread pudding and apple strudel. Everything tasted very good. My brother especially raved about the onion soup. The ambience is very relaxing. We don't normally stay long in a restaurant, but in this case we were there 2 and a half hours. We didn't feel rushed by any means. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "Fabulous and consistent dining experience. Every dish is cooked to near perfection. Desserts and coffee are also fabulous. I want this restaurant to be around for a long time. I just hope it doesn't become too popular where I cannot make same day reservations."

  • "We had an incredible dinner on a Sunday night. This was our 3rd visit and continue to be impressed with the menu and the quality and uniqueness of dishes served. The Quark Spatzle with smoked chicken was probably in the top 10 things I've ever eaten. Wow. Unfortunately, we were seated next to a table of 10 women who were practically shouting at one another and laughing like hyenas. The acoustics where we were seated (near the back) amplified the noise level but management should try to control situations like this, in my opinion. Naschmarkt is a fine dining restaurant, not a Pizza Hut."

  • "The staff including servers, bartender, and cooks seemed to be in a funk, and it was obvious to this diner. They seemed to be stressed out about something, and not in a friendly mood. It affected our service of being waited on, and the food being served. Typically we are met with smiles, friendly chatter, and wonderful food; not tonight. Being a regular diner, I was definitely surprised, and left wondering what caused the change."

  • "Every bit of food I ate was fantastic, the scallop was perfect, the wiener schnitzel and jager schnitzel were great and the strudel was just like home made. The service was great and gave good suggestions. The only part I didn't enjoy was the noise level after they became a bit more busy."

  • "Food was not that great. Portions are way too small and too pricey. Wine portion is about 4oz. Not terribly authentic Austrian food. Expectations were set too high, therefore was a big let down for us. Liked the atmosphere but will not ever return."
