Naschmarkt Restaurant"The right choice!!!"I was looking for a place for dinner as a surprise to my wife for our 11th year anniversary. There were a lot of intriguing places to choose from. I read the reviews for the top three spots that intrigued me. Out of the three, NaschMrkt had the most 4 & 5 star reviews for their food.
We were 10 minutes early for our reservation but they were able to accommodate us right away. Everything was excellent from the wine, salad and main course we ordered. We started with the roasted red beets & mache salad with navel oranges, toasted pine nuts, goat cheese & white balsamic vinaigrette. My wife had the sautéed Alaskan Halibut & I had the double cooked pork belly.
Verdict...EXCELLENT for the ambiance, service and most especially, their food!!!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLike Austrian food? Can't be beat!I don't like this kind of food, but my dining-mates do. They really loved it. Service was attentive and welcoming. Desserts were awesome.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemThis isn't the first time we have dined at Naschmarkt, and it won't be the last. Aside from the food (which is impeccable, delicious and expertly prepared), I have to comment on the staff and the service. They are exceptional. They really care about their customers & will quite literally bend over backwards to accomodate your needs. I cannot speak high enough about the manager and the servers and of course the chef!
There are many fine restaurants in the Bay Area, but Naschmarkt is definitely one of our personal favorites.
Thank you for making our dining experience such a memorable event!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways awesome food and wait staff. We take our friends and out of town relatives here. You can not find another restaurant anywhere around the bay Area that has this type of food . The service is exceptional, along with great food.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLOUD!While we enjoyed the food, this is clearly not a place to go if you want to have any conversation at all during dinner. The volume level in the indoor dining room was deafening. Everyone at the tables surrounding ours was shouting just to be heard by their dining companions. This just added to the noise level.
In addition, it was clear from time we were seated that the goal was to turn our table as quickly as possible. The host and hostess did that "wander and glare" routine where they paced around diners checking on the status of their meal. It always makes me uncomfortable when dining establishments to that ....
Our server was wonderful, and the food was really good ... the dining experience was just bad, bad, bad .....6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMRivals the best anywhere!Highly recommended for the always warm welcome, knowledgeable service, excellent cuisine. This restaurant rivals anything in the Bay Area no matter location. This visit, new first-course items included a cucumber-yoghurt soup and a grilled asparagus with warm egg dressing. Both were tremendous. Mains included pasta with prawns and paprika-spiced halibut, both executed flawlessly. Often overlooked is how easily one can eat a very healthful meal here. There are options that aren't, but most of the dishes here are composed of simple, beautiful ingredients, presented without any added fat or starch. Hearing "Austrian" cuisine, one might not think "healthy" but will be pleasantly surprised.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great AnniversaryWe had heard good things about Naschmarkt, and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, and having the owner come over to make sure everything was going well was a very nice touch. Everyone there was so friendly.
The food was excellent. I had the rouladen and it was superb. I loved every bite. My wife had the pork belly. It too was excellent, although I am not sure I would want an entire meal of pork belly. We also split a very nice salad and had an order of spatzle which was very, very good. To top it off, we had the Salzberger Nockerl (vanilla souffle). It was fantastic.
Overall, we could think of nothing that would have improved our experience at Naschmarkt. We plan to return-- and take friends with us.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food but noisyThe menu is imaginative, with good variety. Service was excellent - quick and attentive. We enjoyed the rouladen, goulash, new york steak, and veal schnitzel. The apple strudel was superb. We also enjoyed a special dessert for the evening - cherry profiteroles. However, the noise level is very high, and its hard to hear anything said from the other side of the table (and the server had a hard time hearing us, too). Hard wood floor, with brick walls - guaranteed noisy. On a slightly warm evening, it was stuffy, and none of their ceiling fans were turned on.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat foodThe food was really wonderful. The service was friendly and helpful. The drinks were excellent. We took guests and all of us will be back.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentIf there were more stars available I would give it more. Excellent food and service. They make you feel very welcome.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticThe chef is from Austria and runs his place with perfection. He offers European dishes as well other dishes using local food products of the season. All of the ingredients are very fresh. Special care is taken in his preparation. Small touches can make such a hugh impact. The service was excellent. Highly recommend.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Notch As AlwaysThis place has it down. It you haven't been, get there. One of the best of the Bay Area by far. The attention to detail throughout the food and the whole meal experience is fantastic. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. Servers always treat you like family without being informal. They are pros.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMCute, crowded, and tastyThis is our 2nd visit to this restaurant. Both times were to celebrate a special occasion. Food is tasty, place is always busy, service was good, wine & beer selection good, prices a touch on the high side so we save this place for special occasions. Jager schnitzel was a tad dry but the mushroom gravy saved it. Scallop appetizer was very good but @ $8/piece very expensive! Goulash was tender but heavy on the paprika which was OK with me but maybe too spicy for others. Desert menu has a small selection but nice.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Austrian foodMy wife and I usually go to the Austrian Resturant in Boulder Creek, but this was Superior.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server (from Argentina)Our server (from Argentina) was very engaging! His service was attentive, lively, and we appreciated his love for fine food and wine as well. We had the Quark Spaetzle appetizer and Yagerschnitzel entree with the rubarb sturdel for dessert. All our dishes were excellent - very flavorful and seasoned to perfection. Fine Dining Experience!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAustrian Excellence in CampbellThis restaurant is among the best of any type at which we have ever eaten, and is certainly in the top tier of California restaurants irrespective of where they are located. The service, to start with, is really professional and impeccable--the entire staff, apparently, has been with the restaurant since it opened, and their team commitment to excellent service really isn't matched anywhere else, at least in California. The menu features Austrian dishes with due attention to the influence of the Austro-Hungarian dynasty. In our case, we started with the superb mushroom strudel, then a cauliflower soup with salmon roe that really was incredible, with following main courses of the jagerschnitzel and Hungarian goulash, also superb. Excellent!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeHaving been here a few times know I have to say that everyone who is working at Naschmarkt wants to make your day a special one.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy, fun restaurant for foodiesThe Jäger Schnitzel amazing; Wiener Schnitzel with lingonberry sauce divine; Hungarian Beef Goulash hearty and delicious. But, the sautéed Salmon was just ok.. and a really small 2x2 piece of fish... so small that diner made popcorn when he got home. We should have ordered another bowl of the yummy sautéed vegetables. Would I recommend Naschmarket? YES.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFun Evening with good foodIf you're looking for a quiet, romantic spot, this is not it. However, if you love good food served by knowledgeable waitstaff in a lively environment, this is a good choice. I don't normally go looking for Austrian food, but this was a great place to try some dishes that you won't find elsewhere.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Fantastic!Highly recommended, always fantastic. This visit, refreshed wine list, couple of new or refreshed entrees. Starter of Mushroom Struedel on a bed of greens, is inspired, excellent twist on a classic, turned savory. The New York Strip, was a great surprise. Not just a steak for those that don't want the Austrian cuisine, this steak was excellently flavored, grilled to perfection. Very, very nice. Rhubarb Struedel for desert was delicious, only nit to pick is that the rhubarb was just a little too crisp. Overall and excellent restaurant with excellent staff, service, food, wine.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Neighborhood RestaurantMy wife and I dropped in here about a month ago and were lucky enough to find two seats at the bar. This place is amazing. We have been back four times since, twice just the two of us and once each with my parents and another couple. Each time was fantastic. Once we sat outside, which was a little quieter than inside. The other three times we sat at the bar, where John, the bartender, is a force of nature: friendly, fast, and talented. For appetizers, the mussels, scallops, and spaetzle are all deliciious. For main courses, we have tended to go with fish dishes, which are great, but I also had the chicken one night (I never order chicken in a restaurant, but John said to give it a shot, so I did, and was very happy). Give this place a try.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience!Food was very good, We were very impressed how good was done, just the way it like it was done when we were in Deutschland. They should improve service, in my opinion they should be more decent, human ;-) Overall Very good restaurant !5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Regional FoodIf you are looking for authentic Austrian fare, than this is the restaurant for you. Those who ordered that route had a wonder dish presented to them. Not into schnitzel? No problem. You will find other items like fresh fish on the menu. I made a lovely light dinner from the scallop appetizer and and beet salad. I wish my salad was a bit larger, but if I was having it before a main course dinner, I probably would have felt the size to be adequate.
The place is small with table close together. We were there on the Thursday and it wasn't fully booked, but there were enough people there to tell me it would not be deafening loud if fully booked.
Our server was prompt and knowledgable and our food cam out quickly.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat MealWe had a great meal at the Naschmarkt! The service was outstanding and all of the dishes were fantastic. I had the pork belly, a recommendation from the waiter, and he was right that it was great. I can't say enough about the food. They also have a nice selection of beer from Germany and Austria.
My in-laws had lived in Germany for several years and they said the food was better. Their on-line reputation is well deserved.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMy sister always loves toMy sister always loves to try out new restaurants when she is visits from out of town. However now she wants to always come to Naschmarket Restaurant. Of course, I never mind as this is one of our monthly restaurants to visit.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGo easy on the salt next time, ChefI have no idea what inappropriate language this review system thinks I used... schnitzel? Spaetzle? Anyway, I will just leave out all the useful details and say, "It was OK."5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding!LOVE this place. Food is always top notch. Most restaurants, I find something I like and always want to order the same thing, however, at Naschmarkt, the food is so incredible that I am always ordering something new. There are a few keepers on the menu, but you can also find new gems as the menu is seasonal. The soups are out of this world, silky, flavorful, and unique. Portions are great too! Service is friendly and professional. Food comes out at a nice pace. These guys have it down!! And, you just can't beat the value.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNaschmarktNaschmarkt is a wonderful change of pace in the South Bay. We've been there 3-4 times and each time we come away committed to coming back again. This is a great spot with a tremendous menu, service and ambiance.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen we got there while waitingWhen we got there while waiting our orders we could see the kitchen and everyone looks busy, we had a great time with my friend and we enjoyed the food we ordered, definitely I will return to this restaurant.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMNever fails to be a very niceNever fails to be a very nice experience... The owner is gracious, the food is excellent and attractive. There is a good reason why this restaurant is always busy. Be sure to have a reservation. We loved the stuffed cabbage and the wiener schnitzel.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in San JoseAlways the best in San Jose. Top-Notch Service, food, ambiance. Great cocktail menu, excellent wines. Menu constantly evolving (rather than changing), so don't miss the classics (Smoked Chicken with Quark Spätzle or the Austrian Cold Cuts) or the new favorites (Jäger Schnitzel or the ever-changing pasta). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNaschmarkt is UNBELIEVABLE!!!Naschmarkt is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Not enough words to describe our experience. From the great and knowledgeable service to the food. OH The food!!! Can't wait to get back here and try something else from the menu. Here's a tip: When in doubt go with the Pork Belly. CRACKTASTIC is a word that describes the food.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNot many Austrian places aroundNot many Austrian places around so this find is a good one. I will go back. Had SALZBURGER NOCKERL 9 soufflé for dessert and it was yummy.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVED it. Only complaintLOVED it. Only complaint is that there was a bit too much time between courses.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a gem in the CampbellThis is a gem in the Campbell neighborhood. The food is an amazing treat. We had reservations at 6pm and the restaurant was full. Give yourself a treat and experience this unique spot. It will transport you to Europe.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic, Friendly and TastyThe welcome and departure to Naschmarkt is always unique. The host always makes you feel welcome and quickly gets you seated. Service is attentive and polite. A proactive service approach, knowing what we need. We ordered the Petrole Sole and Grilled Salmon which were prepared to bring out the flavors and texture of the fresh fish. The Butter Lettuce Salad is delicately presented and the sesame seed oil dressing is scrumptious. The Apple Strudel for dessert was warm and perfectly presented, and it reminded me of the small German restaurant I visited as a child in Michigan. I highly recommend trying some of the European wines. Has a small outside area that feels cozy. It is worth the visit!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first visit. This was our first visit. It is a smaller restaurant that is always crowded. We really enjoyed the excellent Austrian food. The server was very helpful with items on the menu. We enjoyed the jaeger and wiener schnitzel. The food was flavorful without being salty. We had a recommended vanilla brulee that was excellent. We plan to go back and try the other items on the menu.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNaschmarkt - One of the bestFirst time. Very impressed. Excellent food. Great presentation. Outstanding service.
Naschmarkt can compete with some of the best restaurants in the Valley.
Definitely going back.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food and good valueMet and exceeded our expectations.
Interesting beers and selection of Austrian wines. Server knew a lot of detail about the food preparation and was helpful in choosing drink options.
Appetizer cold cut sampler was excellent, liver pâté was fabulous. Our entrees were great as well, chicken and salmon were perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. Bread pudding dessert also delivered, "Einspänner" (double espresso with big dollop of whipped cream) we ordered off the menu reminded us of late night Vienna coffee shops.
Will be back.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Nice folks. GoodGreat food. Nice folks. Good ambiance. Menu is a nice change up. German and Viennese dishes, but lighter than you would expect. Good wines. Definitely two thumbs up. Great find in Downtown Campbell.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTouch of Vienna in CampbellThe restaurant has a small vibe, is very welcoming and comfortable. We started with Manhattans blended with Bulleit Bourbon served very cold and were well made. One of our main courses of course was the Classic Wiener Schnitzel (Veal schnitzel) with lingonberry sauce, Austrian potato salad, lemon and crispy parsley and the Hungarian Beef Goulash braised in paprika with herbed spätzle, roasted Hungarian pepper and sour cream. All entrees arrived piping hot and all were very delicious. The wait staff was very seasoned and engaging. We will be going back soon and would highly recommend Naschmarket in Campbell.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBe sure to enjoy a glass ofBe sure to enjoy a glass of wine with some if the heavier meat dishes. All staff very friendly and gave great suggestions.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and smiles fromGreat service and smiles from the entire staff throughout which made us feel as we were invited guests to their home.
