A word from Narcissa Restaurant
Named after the beautiful and feisty dairy cow who presides over André Balazs' Hudson Valley farm, the Locusts on Hudson, Narcissa marries the clean flavors and impeccably-sourced ingredients of California cuisine with new techniques of roasting, rotisserie and slow-cooking. Seasonal, local and organic produce from the farm have been specifically planted to support Chef John Fraser's healthy, multi-layered American menu, which offers both simplicity and sophistication.
The intimate neighborhood restaurant offers two dining rooms, one featuring a large open kitchen and chef counter, the other overlooking a charming private garden, allowing for al fresco dining in warmer months.

  • "I have been to every iteration of this restaurant space and I think they finally have it! The food was light, but the flavor combinations were complex, it was elevated from your typical "farm to table" restaurant where you feel like every dish could be recreated at home by a good home cook. Stand out dishes included: rotisserie-crisped beets in a horseradish sauce, barley risotto, steamed black bass, whole rotisserie branzino, cheesecake, and the raspberry and lychee fruit salad. We ate outside on a perfect summer night and the noise level was at a perfect point we could actually converse with each other easily. Service was acceptable, but I felt that there were a couple of lapses that could be solved by a better trained staff."

  • "We had a 9pm reservation, but ended up opting for bar seating. The bartenders are excellent as well as fun. Started with the figs. AMAZING. I had the lamb, which was off the hook and my man had the duck. It was all delicious as were the cocktails. Well done!"

  • "As the title says, the service couldn't have been better. The rotisserie chicken special was good, but the larger pieces of chicken left something to be desired. Both the crab salad and softshell crab were exquisite, however."

  • "Small portions of non seasoned food was the only consistent aspect of the meal. Service was spotty as the meal progressed while managers played with their phones. Didn't even bother to stay for dessert, maybe we missed the best part. No way to know."

  • "food was delicious, server was very passionate about the menu and attentive to our needs and made sure the experience was great. love the ambiance and would definitely be back."

  • "Upon walking through the door, Narcissa exceeded my expectations. Although a member of our party was running extremely late, our server took note that we were gathered for a special birthday celebration and couldn't have been more pleasant or accommodating. In fact, providing an exceptional experience began with the hostess and maître d', who seated two of us before the remainder of the party had arrived and, in response to the request I made when reserving on OpenTable, gave us a lovely table with a stunning view of the room and the patio area. I actually think it's the best table in the entire restaurant. From cocktails to dessert, our meal was spectacular...everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Can't wait to return!!"

  • "Trees dripping in lights and lanterns. Prettiest outdoor setting for an early brunch or outdoor meal. We went for an early dinner to avoid crowds because we had a kid. The staff was friendly and attentive and very helpful in selecting courses for our meal. We opted for the special whole chicken (I think around $85?? but it fed all 4 adults!) with some sides and 4 appetizers. Drinks were great. I'd love to come back with gfs for a brunch or lunch again. It's just a great setting. Food is good but I think its the ambience and setting that sets it apart."

  • "This restaurant feels casual, at least for brunch, but the service is top notch and discreet (typical of a very high quality restaurant). With one exception that is - the hostess staff. They acted a bit unwelcoming when we first arrived, gave us a strange top to bottom judgmental glance (we were dressed appropriately for the time of day and venue). Attitude wise, they seemed a better fit for a bar or club in Meatpacking... Oh well, our waiter was amazing so that balanced out the experience. We ordered the French toast bites, the biscuit with honey-lavender butter, eggs Benedict with tomato, poached eggs with avocado toast, a side of fries, Bloody Marys, and a specialty cocktail (the Noonday Spritzer). Everything was very tasty!"

  • "We looked forward to this meal as big fans of The Standard. We were oh so disappointed to find it full of mistakes + mishaps. Two of us were persuaded to order the chef's special - a whole roasted chicken. When one of our bites revealed blood-red rawness on the bone, we were told not to worry, that this 'was normal' for a roast chicken. We then found even the wing meat was totally and dangerously raw. The waiter offered to have the chicken "reheated" (really?) - we decided to order something new. By the time the waiter came back 20 mins later, the others had finished their meals. Even a cocktail ordered to fill the time was forgotten. After 40 minutes a manager came by with a "sorry" and an offer of food. Terrible. 2 of us left w/o meals."

  • "Celebrated an anniversary here and we had a great meal with delicious wine. The two-top tables on the western wall of the restaurant were a little cramped (if they removed just one of the seven tables there it would be more comfortable and more intimate), but other than that, no complaints."

  • "Although only 5 weeks into brunch service this seems to be a keeper. Very lucky to get an early reservations so outdoor seating was an option. The downside is Nys ridiculous no cocktails before noon law. Will have to go back to try them! Food was delicious and presented well."

  • "Thoroughly disappointed by the Carrots Wellington. Don't understand the hype. Just a bunch of boiled carrots wrapped in phyllo pastry. Thankfully, my kids had leftover bone-in ribeye (which was outstanding!), so I devoured that! Thought the carrot fries were overrated as well. Did like the charred beet and fig with ricotta and mangalitsa ham apps though. Ask to sit in the main dining room or on the outdoor patio; room with open kitchen is unremarkable (and gets hot on summer evenings)."

  • "It is definitely deserves the good reviews it has been getting. We had brunch on Saturday. We sat in the garden - great food- great atmosphere and a good bottle of Rose and good service. How can you lose."

  • "The food was terrific but can't say the same for the wait staff. It was as if our waiter could care less what we had to say. Loved the outdoor space. The French toast bites were absolutely delicious with the maple syrup and lemon curd dipping sauce."

  • "Beautiful outdoor area - very quiet and relaxing. Terrific brunch menu - wide variety of options, veg and not. Had the egg white frittata, was nicely served, though wish I was offered ketchup or hot sauce. Table really enjoyed the carrot fries with tofu jalapeno dip. Drinks were delicious - I'm not drinking alcohol, but loved my kale, spinach, pineapple juice - fantastic! Dining companions enjoyed the Fly Me to Tulum drink."

  • "The best outdoor seating in New York! The food and cocktails were amazing, the surroundings were heavenly, dinner was perfect!"
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "So the ingredients are fresh, and some of the combinations of flavors are surprising and delicious. So why was this a disappointment? We expected every bite - especially of the vegetables - to make us feel like we were tasting that ingredient for the first time. That didn't happen - until we got to the desserts!!! And the service - well, it's as if everyone has been given a "script" to follow as they engage guests, and they're on autopilot. Not very warm, starting with the greeting at the maître d' podium, when we arrived drenched from an early evening downpour. They should take lessons from the staff at Little Owl. Still, for the unusual choices on the menu, this is worth a try. Not sure we'll be going back, though."

  • "the vegetables are no joke - seriously, try them. beets are as amazing as advertised. bathroom is a maze to get to though, and our particular seats rather difficult to get in and out of, so... if you're going, plan not to get out of your seat, ever!"

  • "All I have to say is MUST TRY THE BEETS!!!! I am a veggie lover, but not a vegetarian. Everything on the menu looked incredible, and everything I tried was delicious. Ambiance is exactly what you want from a hotspot. Beautiful restaurant. I highly recommend finding out more for yourself."

  • "We had a booking for 9.30 on a Monday night but when we arrived were told to sit at the bar. We were not taken to our table until after 10pm. Not acceptable and no apology. We tried a few dishes to share - the Grilled Sweet potato with jerk spices, peppers, tofu aioli, so good with a delicious spicy kick. The raw tuna dish was very fresh but not amazing. The steamed black bass was perfectly cooked and delicious. We also had the carrot fries and spinach, which were tasty. A number of times we had to get the waiter to fill our water and one tried to clear our plates while we were still eating. Scrappy. We had the chocolate tart for dessert - sensational! Food was good enough to go back again but service seriously lacking for what you pay."

  • "My new favorite restaurant, although the supercilious manager could be a leeetle bit nicer about giving up a decent seat to repeat visitors (my 3rd time there in less than 2 months) who walk in when the restaurant is empty. No, don't try to shove us in the kitchen. No, not the uncomfortable table for two in the middle of the row, when both the corners are empty. The slightly nicer corner, great (even if you did deny us the really nice corner -- claiming it was reserved, and then quite obviously turning it over to the next patron who asked for it). Nonetheless, the food is great, the restaurant beautiful, and the wait staff extremely good."

  • "Service needs to improve. Took almost two hours to receive mains -- with the last 30 minutes being repeatedly told that our food was "being plated", "your ticket is next", etc. I realize this is largely owing to the kitchen staff but I don't like obsequious waitstaff pushing cheesy excuses. Would perhaps return for a drink at the bar but food does not seem worth a return visit. "

  • " The service was almost nonexistent to the point where my husband and I thought we must've been invisible. And this was at an early reservation (7pm). Lots of staff doing a lot of NOTHING. It must have been a good 20-30 minutes after we were seated until someone asked us if we would like a drink. We eventually had to break down and ask if they offered bread. I normally don't eat bread but I could tell this place was going to break me down because there was going to be a LONG wait time for food. Incidentally, the bread was the best part of the meal. Very disappointed since I really had high hopes for this one and my friend gave it her thumbs up. I am hoping it was just a bad night but I doubt that I am willing to give it another shot. "

  • "We had a show to catch on the other side of town so we could only stay for cocktails and dessert but the front desk staff and the bartenders were extremely accommodating and friendly. They let us in before they opened and we sat at the bar, enjoying cocktails (I had the So Pretty) and two desserts, the sundae and the carrot parsnip cake, and both were delicious. The place is warm and unpretentious and I can't wait to return for a full dinner. "
