Diner Reviews
  • "I ate mainly from the Happy Hour menu. It was almost like a Tapas menu. Small servings - being able to have little tastes of lots of dishes is a great way to eat out. I loved the Flatbread, the Fish Tacos and the Kale Salad - all of them very flavorful. The one disappointment was the Sangria. It had clearly been poured into a caraffe a long time before hand. The first glass was very ordinary (if not bad), then the second glass was better which made me look and realized it had all settled. It was supposed to be prickly pear flavored but that didn't come through at all. So that was annoying, but the wait staff were friendly, and the patio was lovely in the afternoon sun. Would def go back again."

  • "I was excited to go to the Napa Valley Grill for the first time. I was ultimately disappointed. The food was not notable, but the service was notably poor. I had to ask for salt and pepper, which was then taken away after 15 minutes of eating as though the restaurant had but few salt and pepper shakers. Fairly soon after that, a waiter came around to ask if we wanted fresh pepper. I wish the experience had been better."

  • "I have always enjoyed dining at Napa Valley Grille. The food has been consistently good. However, this time, the service was less than stellar. He seemed distracted and was inattentive to me and my guest. He seemed to be checking back with every other table he served except for ours. I was disappointed by this, because I had not experienced that level of service at Napa Valley Grille. I hope that I don't experience it in the future."

  • "Service is excellent; wine is great; food is wonderful. I always am accommodated with requests for a booth, or whatever, so I really appreciate the attention."

  • "Not too much outstanding, but relatively good food and service."

  • "Good food and superb service. Could be quieter for visiting - get a table far away from the open kitchen. Why do restaurants think we want to see and hear the cooks - the reason we go out to dinner is to ESCAPE the kitchen!"

  • "No other restaurant in the area compares to Napa Valley Grill. It's the best."

  • "My caesar salad was mediocre, especially for the price $14 and no protein....just lettuce with dressing."

  • "This restaurant is perfect for meetings with business people and for extended family gatherings!"

  • "Tucked away on a side street in Westwood, this place is so great. I first went to the original in Napa, CA. - years ago. Was so thrilled when they opened one in Westwood. THis place has not fallen victim to being a "chain" in my opinion. It;s elegant, friendly, & the food & wine are always wonderful GREAT wine by the glass list, as you would expect! Not cheap, but worth what you pay! Nice for dining but also great to drop in for a glass of wine. Some street parking but also a Valet."

  • "I was able to get a delicious Kale salad for lunch. They left off the chicken and cheese for me and added lots of chopped vegetables and fruits to my salad."

  • "The ambiance is great. The decor is a subtle bit of Italian something... The colors are white and cream and mild. We sat near the giant fireplace, but there are also places that are more tucked away, and also tables that are bright and cheery and receive the full warmth of the day. The menu includes fish and chicken and vegetable dishes as well. The kitchen can be seen partially from some tables, and that adds to the "rustic" mood of the place. The food tastes good, and arrives beautifully. Coffee is endless. It is a perfect place for a special occasion -- just because of the wonderful staff alone. They are such a great team, and I think they can make any occasion seem wonderful. They are so FAST, and so POLITE."

  • "We enjoyed the ambiance. The wine list is quite good and the menu is interesting. But our food choices came with very little meat. The lamb ragu held very few pieces of diced lamb. The sauce and pasta were delcious, but I was hoping for more protien. My husband ordered the chicken casesar salad and took half home, but there was no chicken in the left overs. Our friends were happier with their choices. The steak salad came with large slices of beef cooked medium rare as ordered, and the omlette was just as expected."

  • "This a relaxing gem in the middle of busy Westwood.I have dined there for over 20 years and all the experiences have been good."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "We had a wonderful meal at this gem last Saturday. I was ever so slightly vocal that the medium pork chop was over done. They were so concerned that I was unhappy, though I really wasn't. Anyway, the manager came by to graciously inquire after my needs and offering to remake. In the end, they comped my meal. I can only say I was thoroughly impressed with their their commitment to customer service! We will go again and tell our friends!"

  • "Napa Valley Grille has been a fav of mine for years. I enjoy the entire experience from setting to the delicious selections on the menu. They have interesting specials and prepare them well. I never tries bison until it was a recent add to the menu. Better than I could have imagined. The standard items that are always dependable. Service is friendly and prompt. I would tell anyone who asked they should Eat There. And, I do recommend to my friends or people I know from out of town who are visiting this area."

  • "The menu and wine list at Napa Valley are probably the best in the west! Always a wonderful evening, with perfectly prepared food and excellent service. The price is probably appropriate, but too high for regular dining. And the noise level can be deafening, although we did have a corner table this time, which insulated our own conversation and made it possible to hear each other."

  • "All pretty good, the pork chop was a bit dry compared to brined ones I have had at other places."

  • "My favorite restaurant on the Westside. Had the Caesar salad with salmon - perfection. Philip, our waiter, recommended the Malbec - wonderful choice. Asked for a item that used to be on the night menu and was accommodated. The bread, as soon as you sit down, scrumptious. Wait staff ready to fill up your water glass without you asking. Menu changes and each change better than the last. Chef Taylor a master in the kitchen as well as greeting everyone at the tables - he makes his rounds to see if everything is ok or just to chat. Makes it a special time dining. Go, relax, dine, and enjoy. You won't regret it."

  • "Not worth the money. It was hard to believe the service could be that bad for the prices we paid. Finally, the food was marginal, but I can get better food in many places in LA for a fraction of the price. It was a pretty bad dining experience."

  • "I have always liked Napa Valley Grille. It's close to my office and convenient. But the last few times I've been there, I've been disappointed at the portion size. I understand the desire to make a nice presentation on the plate, and that fine food is served in smaller portions, but I came in for lunch, ordered pasta, and what I got felt more like a starter than an entree. After lunch, I actually stopped for a drive thru so I wouldn't be hungry during my afternoon meetings. Now I'm a big guy. The server might have noticed this, and alerted me to the portion size. She could've done so by "suggesting" a starter, a salad, soup, or something... nice variety and selection, but I won't dine here again when I'm actually hungry."

  • "This place is a great place for grabbing drinks after work. Parking is a pain, but you can pay for valet. Great wine list - nothing out of the world, but uniformly excellent. Happy hour menu is great - can really fill up on salads, sliders, apps for a reasonable price. Suitable for entertaining clients as well."

  • "never disappoints they know how to run a restaurant. professional waiter--knew the menu--did not push hard on upgrading--a turn-off for this group and he "read" us well."

  • "The food was very tasty and the service outstanding. They also had a wide selection of very good wines. If you order the duck, do not expect a large portion, for it is small."
    Dined on 2/18/2014
  • "I often go to Napa Valley Grille at lunchtime because it's convenient and quite pleasant. But we were taking a distinguished Japanese visitor to dinner and I thought the experience very bad. The service is almost non-existent and very slow. The waiter brought my duck--I had asked for medium although actually duck is never really served rare, and he brought it in more or less raw. I sent it back for further cooking. My guest didn't get her vegetables in time to eat with her steak. All in all: the food is mediocre, the ambience ditto and the prices way too high for what you get."

  • "We really enjoyed this restaurant. I ordered the swordfish and it was cooked perfectly. It was at least two inches thick and moist without being undercooked. Everyone else enjoyed thier meals too, which included the pork chop, the short rib and the kale salad. I also thought the carmelized Brussel sprouts were very good but just a bit over-salted. It didn't stop us from cleaning the plate. The service was good but I felt we had to wait a bit too long before our server first appeared at the table and then again between taking our drink order and coming back to take our food order. However, since this was a birthday celebration we used the time to catch-up. After that the service picked-up. I definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "We always enjoy our visit to Napa Valley Grille. We dined with friends from out of town this time. Our table had been reserved for us, just where we had requested it. The food was wonderful. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The prices are reasonable. It's the best places in Westwood village, in our opinion."

  • "We have dined at Napa many times, always efficient and considerate, this time mid week, service was good, though a bit too chummy, overly familiar, food was standard this time...setting very pleasant as always...Napa is a good choice nearby."
    Dined on 2/19/2014
  • "Two problems. One was seasoning. We ordered crabcakes florentine. I know taste will vary from person to person but, for both of us, the eggs were perfect, the crabmeat so-so and salty, and the spinach very overpeppered in some spots. The second was price. I know it's Westwood and there aren't many choices there but the price was high for the quality and I do find $5.00 for a cappuchino a little pricey as well. Still, if it's about eating in Westwood and not about great food, it's a good choice."

  • "I've been to this restaurant several times and it never disappoints. The food is delicious, and I like the contemporary, warm feel of the interior. It's relatively quiet compared to other restaurants. This is my "go-to" place for a special dinner out."
