My husband works in Westwood, and he had been to NVG for lunch, but never dinner. First, the restaurant called and emailed to confirm our reservations, which we appreciated. When graduation ended earlier than expected, we called to see if we could move up our time, and they were happy and helpful in accommodating us. When we arrived, the host was attentive and we were seated quickly at a nice round table for five. Our waiter was excellent--not too attentive, but easy to find when we had any questions. He had just the right mix of attention and care. The food was absolutely delicious! Arrived a bit early which on this particular Sunday was not an problem. Our server was great. Explained the selections well, assisted with wine and beer selections. We ate lightly so we shared a salad of Kale and Romaine and it was plenty. My pork chop was as requested and juicy with a cherrie sauce on top and spincah to complement. My wife had ravioli stuffed with lobster and cheese. One of our friends had the roasted/baked shortrib and she was in heaven. Her hubby had the crab cakes and was very pleased. Server was attentive and we wish for nothing. Each couple split a chocolate ganache desert and I think we licked the plate.. The menu varies based upon what is in season. The kale salad, scallops, pork chop, and rack of lamb are exceptional. There was a large group of fraternities there for Mothers Day, but we were very nicely accommodated in the small room to the front of the restaurant, where little sound carried and we were able to have normal conversations at a perfect sized table. I went with a date and we found the restaurant to be the perfect spot for our pre-theater meal before attending a performance at the Geffen Playhouse. I ordered the Natural Grilled Pork Chop mustard greens, cherry and sweet onion compote, bourbon apple jus with an appetizer of the soup of the day. My date had the Kale Chopped Salad quinoa, toasted almonds, parmesan, plump raisins, lemon-parmesan vinaigrette. She could not have the soup due to the cream ingredient, but our waiter happily discovered their was some gazpacho, and that made a good substitute. There are many and they range from simple to fairly elegant. Napa Valley Grille trends toward the more elegant end of the spectrum without being pretentious at all. The short rib entree was rich and well- seasoned. The seared tuna was perfect. Ample wine choices by the glass. Only the lemon tart dessert disappointed. It's closer to cheesecake than tart and not very lemony at all. Our pleasant waiter agreed.
