Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very exclusive and extremely exquisite. Uniquely was being able to watch the chef and his preparations. Japanese cuisine at its best."

  • "My wife and I love Japanese food and went to Naoe for the first time this month. The highlights are the service and the food (specially the raw items). However the whole menu was not as outstanding as some of the other reviews I read had suggested. The overall experience was interesting, but I am not sure it is worth more than $300 per person (after you add sake, service and tax to the check). I will probably not go back. "

  • "The best Japanese restaurant outside of Japan. Chef Kevin's menu is outstanding and Host Wendy's charm is unparalleled! Amazing experience overall! "

  • "The service is just exceptional. The food is not for everyone, do not expect sushi expect the unexpectable."

  • "I took my husband for his birthday... And it was an amazing experience. From the service to the food was a unique time. Chef Cory is a genius and all his staff are so knowledgeable that you just don't notice how time goes. If you are a foodie and love any culinary work of art, this is your place."

  • "This was my greatest dining experience. Although I do not consider myself a hard core foodie I do eat out everyday. The food was phenomenal and the service impeccable. Additionally, it's a great place to have a romantic dinner."

  • "Went there with my wife not knowing exactly whatto expect. Only 8 guests per sitting. The meal consists in tasting menu. It is a great journey into traditional Japonese cuisine. The staff is great."

  • "Chef Kevin, Wendy, and staff created a wonderful evening for me and my parents. The food was unique and inspired (set menu leaves you stuffed for sure), and the service was impressive and highly cordial. The team works hard at making sure you're well taken care of -- each dining experience here feeling personalized and intimate. Will definitely return, especially when they open for lunch!"

  • "This restaurant is for people with a wide palate, meaning that the food it is not the regular food you expect to eat when going to a Japanese Restaurant. This is traditional and real Japanese food, so be careful when choosing to come here if you are not too adventurous when dinning. The service and attention is very personalized and direct. Servers give an excellent treatment and pay attention to every detail to make the dinning experience the best possible."

  • "I was recently in Kyoto at what I believe to be some of the finest restaurants in the world. Naoe is Miami's version of Kyoto's best but with some local twists using fresh seafood and vegetables from Florida. It works. With only 8 seats its very intimate and fun. If you haven't been to Japan, just order the best Sake and sit back and enjoy. Try everything and you will be very pleasantly surprised."

  • "It's like eating in the kitchen of a friend who is also a top rated chef. Just 8 seats render the experience unique. And the qualitiy and peculiarity of the food is outstanding"

  • "The staff is exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable about the cuisine and local area. The chef is very warm and will answer any questions you may have. The food is full of flavor. Every bite is delicious. Some of the dishes prepared are unique in the sense that an acquired taste is needed. Shy people with picky mouths will not enjoy the dishes. I personally am a picky eater but I find with this level of restaurant almost everything the chef prepares is tasty. I will return with close friends and family if I can get a reservation for 4. The ambience is beautiful and watching the chef and his team is a show in itself. It reminded me of being in NYC and I would rank it in the class with L'Atelier De Joël Robuchon."

  • "For hardcore foodies only, a truly memorable gastronomic experience of the highest quality. On the same level with 2 and 3 michelin star omakase menus in Japan. Probably the most sophisticated restaurant in Miami."

  • "Naoe is a very refreshing change from the plain sushi-sashimi banality that is permeating so many Japanese restaurants these days. The attention to detail is palpable- fresh wasabi and ginger, uni from Hokkaido, sea anemone sushi, impeccable rice (not the commercial type) heated just a touch for a completely different mouthfeel, seasonal fish from Japan filled with its own eggs etc. Nothing was out of place or executed less than impeccably. Kudos for that. There are no wines on the list- only sake and beer and that's a shame. Overall, a gem of a restaurant"

  • "We had a 9:30pm seating on 27 Dec. The restaurant is a bit hidden but once inside small and charming. We had the good fortune to sit at the bar, allowing us watch Chef Cory and team work their magic. Each of the courses was individual and full of flavor. This restaurant is for lovers of fantastically fresh, lovingly prepared Japanese food. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "This restaurant is a mayor treat for "real" food lovers. Their menu is carefully crafted and the food is an aesthetic feast. From the quality of the seafood to the sophistication of the pottery they use. The sake they feature is carefully selected and the quality is supreme. Is the closest you will get to a real japanese " high end" restaurant in Miami. The decor is serene and minimal and the japanese silence is brushed with a very low classical music background. Is a sophisticated gem. It is not a restaurant. ...is an experience!"

  • "Go to NAOE. Now! We had a great night. Food and service was incredible. My only critique was there was only saki and beer available. Would have liked a real drink before dinner."

  • "NAOE has become too expensive. I have been to NAOE a number of times since it opened. I understand the need to raise prices from the original $26 bento box. Earlier this year the price was $85/person including limited rounds of sushi. Either way, we ended up paying around $350 for two people with sushi rounds, Sake and tip. I ate there last week and it was around $700 for two people. I will not be going back. I ate at Ledoyen in Paris for the same amount with wine pairings. There is no comparison. NAOE is a wonderful place. It is not worth $350 per person. I hope the pricing returns to what it was earlier this year."

  • "I took my father for dinner at the earlier seating around 6pm. The food was served starting with a bento-style box and followed by at least 8 small servings and 3 dessert servings. Everything was expertly prepared. The service was fantastic, with the waitstaff describing each course. I highly recommend this for a special occasion."

  • "NAOE continues to be one of the most outstanding restaurants that I have ever visited - and I have traveled and eaten all over the world. Chef Kevin Cory is brilliant - the sushi is as good as anything that I have had in Tokyo. The whole experience is wonderful - the staff knows what they are doing - they are very service-oriented and it is genuine. We visit Miami each year for Art Basel, but I am beginning to believe that we visit Miami as much to dine at NAOE as for the art! A meal at NAOE is worth the time and the money that it requires - excellent!"

  • "This was without a doubt one of the most unique and fantastic restaurant experiences of my life. Authentic Japanese doesn't really do the experience justice - it was absolutely wonderful."

  • "Almost the entire world acknowledges that the food and service is perfection. See yelp or the many great reviews written about this place. I can't add much more, just note that it is omakase. For some of the high-stress, type-A types that make the kind of money to afford this place, letting go and putting your culinary destiny totally in someone else's hands is difficult. If you can do that, you will have the best meal possible. It takes 2.5 hours on average, and for the amount of dishes, it really is a nice pace. Think relaxing culinary adventure, not fast food sushi. It's expensive until you consider the ratio of artistry and ingredients to price. While the hit will still be the same to the bank account, your mind will be blown."

  • "The food, the chef, the staff, the presentation all exceeded my expectations. I have not had such an elegant dining experience in a very long time. Japanese dining at its best. Next time I will sit at the bar to see the chef in action!"

  • "After researching restaurants in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area I chose Naoe, looking for an outstanding experience to celebrate a landmark birthday. I guess I was expecting too much. The price is outrageous and I'm left feeling nauseated after spending so much money and not being even a little overwhelmed. The food was very good, the staff was very very nice. The restaurant, however, looks like a "pop up" - like they just moved into this location in the morning and served dinner in the evening. The open kitchen is just that - you are only separated by curtains from the dishwashing area - you can actually hear the dishes being washed during the dinner service. The restaurant is pipe-and-draped off from a larger empty space... very odd."

  • "Naoe is a restaurant that offers a true dining experience for lovers of sushi. Several of the fish served were flown over from Japan that day. The chef prepares traditional Japanese sushi with the very best ingredients. There is no ordering as the chef chooses the menu based on seasonal availability. If you are dining with anyone who is not adventurous, they will not enjoy this evening. Our meal began wih a bento box for each diner and followed with 8 courses of sushi - 1 piece each. We all left feeling fully satisfied. The crowd favorite was a salmon belly sushi but everything was delicious. Expect between $250-$350 per person including tips and drinks."

  • "Pros: -Probably the best service I've ever had (which means if you're used to Miami - the service will blow your mind) -The best fish I've ever had -Innovative menu that incorporates traditional Japanese and local ingredients -Friendly chats with the chef/owner and staff Cons: -$160 per person (billed in advance!!) -No booze or gratuity or even parking included for $160 per person (Total bill will easily be $450 minimum) -Parking is validated only for 2 hours and the meal always takes 3 or more. Parking the garage next door is $12 an hour! Just leaves a bad taste in your mouth having to pay super expensive parking after dropping $500 on dinner."
