Diner Reviews
  • "My co-workers enjoyed a celebratory lunch at Nantucket Reef! The food was delicious and the service very good and speedy. We got back to the office with time to spare. We will definitely go back again."

  • "At 10:30 am on Sunday we expected the room to be bustling, but it was very quiet and we were seated immediately. Our server made some good suggestions. During the meal we didn't see much of our server; not even to offer refills on beverages. In my case I didn't want a refill ... I couldn't tell if the coffee was "old" or if it was just brewed especially strong, but one cup was more than enough for me. I could have said something, but quite honestly I didn't feel like flagging down our server. The meal itself was very fresh and served piping hot, we particularly enjoyed their play on the crab cake in almost every dish we ordered at the table. Reasonably priced and in our opinion worth a try."

  • "Our 2nd time in, my wife and I went for Sunday brunch and had a wonderful time. Our 2 Benedict selections of Shrimp and Gritcake for my wife and Crab Benny for myself were absolutely delicious. Unlimited Mimosas sealed the deal. Had a friendly table visit from the chef, Alberto, and a nice talk about recipes and creative cooking. Service from Dustin was excellent. This place is a gem. We plan to be regulars to the point that our perennial favorite, Ricciuti's, business may suffer a tad."

  • "Service was mediocre at best. Waiter forgot our soup then brought it with the meal. Food was ok but not worth going back."

  • "Having read so many good reviews , we were surprised to find it empty for Sunday brunch. My son and husband were pleased with their steak benedicts and chicken sausage, but my daughter-in-law and I weren't so pleased with our choices, the salmon benedict and the Nantucket. The combination of sauces in the salmon benedict didn't work so well, and the Nantucket consisted primarily of potatoes, which were good, but way too many. Because we'd never been to the restaurant before, we'd like to have been able to order samples of various dishes rather than one selection. I'd hoped for toast with my breakfast, but there was none, nor did I see an option to order it separately. Service was slow. We may try it again for lunch or dinner."

  • "We frequent this place at least once to twice a month since it's so close to home. The food is consistently excellent. The service can be a little shotty but this time, we had an outstanding server. He was very attentive and anticipated our needs. He made excellent recommendations on what to try. I had the fish tacos and they were really good. My Husband had the chicken basket, which was also excellent. The mussels are always out of this world."

  • "Brought an out of town guest here on a Thursday night at 8:00. The lights were so bright, you almost needed sunglasses! I asked that they turn the lights down a bit, and about half an hour later they did. The food was ok, nothing special, and the service was slow. But the number one reason we will never go back is that while we were eating our meals, an employee swept the floor all around us! Not just once, but twice! Nothing had spilled, it should have waited until diners were not there. It felt like a McDonalds experience, only with exorbitant prices."

  • "I am a seafood (particularly oyster) addict! When I found this restaurant on Yelp I made a reservation for my birthday celebration. I couldn't have picked a better place! Cute and quaint we got seated immediately at their Captain's table. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and had great suggestions when I would ask about the menu. The Oysters were some of the best I've had in the area! Overall I had a really great birthday dinner and I will definitely be back! NOTE: try the shrimp tacos!"

  • "I'm certainly pulling for them, since all the previous restaurants in that building failed to make it, but we won't be back. I make reservations because my life is pretty tightly timed. But when we got there, our table wasn't ready and it wasn't ready for another half-hour. Also, I made a concerted effort to be seated in the backroom where it's a little quieter: both in my OpenTable reservation and I called that morning to confirm. But we got seated at a noisy table anyway. Food was poor to okay (tasteless fish and chips; over rich stuffed cod; dull rice pilaf). Food service was okay. While waiting for our table I talked to the bartender who told me about their inexpensive Sat and Sun brunch which sounded really good."

  • "We ate dinner on a Monday evening and were surprised to find it moderately full of diners. The decor is bright New England cottage style. The service was very good with attentive staff. The calamari was quite tasty with an unusual sauce we have not experienced elsewhere. The menu is somewhat limited in entrees but the food quality is good. The basket choices are nice in that you can mix and build the contents of the basket (fried shrimp, oysters and clams were good!) The french fries were tough shoestring type and had no seasoning. They.could do better with these. The stuffed cod was excellent and plentiful in portion size. Nice selection of beers on draft and good wine list. We will probably return again."

  • "Had lobster and the stuffed cod bith were excellent. Service was also excellent. Plan to go again soon. Close by and good for casual dining."

  • "What a find! In the Upper Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Germantown greater area, there is precious little to choose from in terms of good seafood restaurants. My wife and I finally tried this place the other night and we are very glad we did. The overall noise level is a little higher than I might like in general but perfectly in tune with the place and the layout/design. Conversation at table was not an issue nor interaction with our wonderful server, Heather. I ordered the Stuffed Cod and my wife the 'No crabcakes. All food was just right in flavor and amount. We also split a side of Asparagus and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the 'small' house salad which was anything but small (and came in a bowl as she prefers). I know we will be regulars."

  • "I was disappointed with the food. We were there for lunch; I had the lobster roll and the flavor was bland. Also had the calamari which was very crispy and meaty but again the flavor, seasoning, was not to my liking,ie, unusual taste as well as the dipping sauce. (I try calamari every restaurant I go to which offers it). Our waiter was excellent; made recommendations and checked on us frequently without being intrusive. Prices were definitely affordable, lower than most restaurants of comparable dining experience."

  • "Met friends for a quick lunch and it was very nice. I have been there once before and enjoyed both times. It is not a gourmet restaurant but certainly a very good one."

  • "I chose this restaurant for Father's Day because my husband loves New England seafood. The setting was lovely, the staff friendly and professional, the food very well prepared. But it was not New England. Yes, they had a lobster roll, and it was marvellous. But how can a New England seafood restaurant have no chowder, no clams? The crab meat and salmon dishes, the oysters on the half shell, were very yummy, but they are not New England. If you love seafood in general, I highly recommend the restaurant. But if you're hankering for New England, this may not be the place."

  • "LOVED our Father's Day brunch!! Excellent food, great drinks, and friendly, attentive service. They were also extremely patient and accommodating when we had to change our reservation time at nearly the last minute. Not a single complaint - we will DEFINITELY be back!"

  • "We went to this restaurant for brunch and liked the atmosphere and the service. Our waitress was very nice and efficient. The food however was just okay. One dish came out cold. It was sent back to the kitchen and returned warm but the sauce had separated. One crab and egg skillet was very low on crab, when we pointed it out to the waitress and she also had a hard time locating the crab meat, the manager brought a small plate with a delicious crabcake. The crabcakes are very good indeed. Wish the food was better, then we would definitely return."

  • "I had wonderful clam chowder and Oysters Rockefeller, and my son raved about his mahi mahi special! Great food at reasonable prices, with attentive service. Good happy hour specials as well!"

  • "As I was eating I thought to my self that I had eaten a better meal at red lobster. Then the check came and was 30% higher than I thought it deserved."

  • "I LOVE crab cakes. The ones served here have practically no filler and they will even do them gluten free. They are amazing. I also got the lobster roll and it was good in the cold version, but super in the Connecticut style which is with butter and served warm. Their coleslaw is equally good. Very tasty. Usually I skip coleslaw as it is not very good. I also had their corn on the cob. Yummy! A friend had the fish and chips and went wild. I tasted a snmall piece and it was quite good. Not greasy. Another friend had broiled shrimp. They were large and she said very tender. This was my second visit and I will definitely be back."

  • "This was our 3rd visit to Nantucket's Reef. We have been consistently pleased with the quality of the seafood. The crab cakes are absolutely delicious with a minimum of filler. THe Sole stuffed with crab meat was tasty although I would have appreciated a bit more crab since sole has very little taste. But overall we have been very satisfied with the service, the wait time, the quality of the food and the price."

  • "Not our first trip to "The Reef" and they continue to be a local favorite. We had dinner on the patio Saturday night and the food was excellent as usual. Wicked Mussels continue to be a favorite appetizer. The Mahi was great as always (I tried my girlfriend's dish), and I had the Arctic Charr special - which was really delicious with the taragon sauce. Our friend raved about the fried, fresh clams and said they were the best he'd ever had. We returned for Sunday Brunch outside - chicken sausage benedict - yum! and the Bay Omelette just BURSTING with crab meat - like a crab cake inside an omelette. Sooo good... Our server both times was Samantha (new to The Reef) and she was great!"

  • "In town for an event, and found this spot on Yelp. I really enjoyed the crab cake entree! Actual crab meat...absolutely no filler....where do they do that at?? Met the chef and he has a wonderful story about going on his own to open this restaurant. You will want Alex as you waitstaff....he really knows how to provider A1 service to guests, anticipating your every need. He wonderfully and capably provided suggestions and descriptions of the offerings. Very nice surprise, and they are generous with portions. "

  • "The food in this restaurant is actually quite good. One small incident, however, negatively colored the experience. The very tasty mussels are served in a delicious sauce, accompanied by two slices of a garlicky toast. The sauce invites more bread for dunking, and we were told there is a two dollar charge for additional bread. Well, all we wanted was some plain bread, not the toast, so two bucks was not going to get in the way of enjoying that sauce. We received three small slices of bread! I couldn't believe they would be so cheap about something I have never paid for in other restaurants. "

  • "Excellent crab 'no' cakes !!! We had a big family get together here with crab cakes and everyone was thrilled . We sat outside and the manager was very attentive to the customers. The waiter forgot to bring rolls and utensils and served cold soup. Nice but not 5 star service. "

  • "We have traveled to Maine and other New England locations a fair amount, so I can say you won't be disappointed if you order a lobster roll or other regional seafood dish. Now living in Maryland, the no cake crab cakes live up to their billing, and both the cole slaw and sweet potato fries were great as well. "

  • "Consistant food and service, good pricing. Seafood is a good choice with fried items light and properly cooked. Mussels are a signature dish and worthy of the tirle. Good bartenders if you eat at the bar they are attentive and honest about the choices."

  • "My sister and I had the pecan crusted tilapia and it was sooooo delicious. My daughter had the fish and chips which was not only tasty, but the portion was huge. My. Dad enjoyed the broiled shrimp, while a friend had the salmon. All portions were generous and delicious. The only glitch was when we got there our party of 5 was placed at a table for four. We summoned the manager and we were quickly given a spacious new table! Fourth time there and we will be back!!"

  • "Companions raved about cod entrée and the chowder. All our food was excellent. Liked the small tasty biscuits put on the table. Ambiance is beachy and reflects the name. Manager made it a point to see that we were all happy with our meals. Definitely a seafood restaurant to come back to. "

  • "Very attentive wait staff and manager was making rounds and very accommodating. Had the crab dip…….but where's the crab? Served with tortilla chips would be better with toasted bread or crackers. Had the fried mixed basket- huge portion but soggy. The coleslaw was unique- turns out it was made with cinnamon. Most likely will return since the service was good but would order different food- I shouldn't be eating fried things anyway!"

  • "We were seated right away and the waiter was very friendly and helpful. The appetizer, lobster and spinach queso was delicious and the chips were very thin and fresh. I ordered the grilled salmon but when it arrived it was literally cold so I sent it back. My son and daughter liked their crab cake and fish tacos. The amount of food was substantial. Once we got our food the service tapered off and we waited a long time for the check. In the waiter's defense, it looked like it was prom night and he had a couple of big parties. I might try it again for lunch or brunch."
