A word from Nanking - Manhattan
We of Nanking Restaurant welcome our loyal customers to experience the hospitality of this ancient city of China!

Nanking is a city about equal distance from Canton and Peking. In 1842, after Nanking was captured by the British, Sir Henry Pottinger signed the Nanking treaty.

What followed thereafter was an era where various eating places opened up for visitors to enjoy the hospitality of this region. The food was modified to suit the palate of the visitors, in order to entice them to come back to these eating places.

This "Fusion" cuisine became very popular. It is our humble endeavor at Nanking Restaurant to bring you the same historical "Fusion" taste and hospitality from ancient China.

We extend a very warm welcome to you and will make every effort to make your visit enjoyable and memorable!

Locate across from Radio City Music on Broadway is this hidden gem. Food is family style so large portion to share. Desserts are of the charts although just one choice but different variations. The place is quaint but charming. Bonus large windows open to invite the inside out.

A sad story here. Food is usually pretty fair but management is a problem. No consistency in service and servers unfamiliar with dishes. Terrible wine list and the manager did not know bringing a bottle was legal. He and I think the owner looked up the law in front of me and the law was clear that BYOB is fine. They did not, or did not want to, understand so they refused to let us open our bottle. When the list is bad, that is a worse mistake than usual.

We met here for Sunday lunch with some family from out of town. Service was slow. Food didn't taste all that fresh. And as one previous review indicated, all dishes were swimming in brown sauce. We should have gone to Ruby Foo's down the block.

While I wouldn't name this the best place for asian fusion in NYC it was good, convenient and a place to eat before a Broadway show! The service was quick and they didn't rush us or even hesitate to seat us before all of our party was present which is a breath of fresh air. I would go back before a show again.

Me and wife had made reaervation for table. But when we went the table was not available. Staff asked us to wait at bar and they told us they will let us know once table is available. But they forget about us and kept on putting new people at empty table. I had to remind them couple of time before I got table.

For starters, the waitress was constantly looking at us and expecting us to order ASAP, which is a sign of bad service. This also meant we couldn't relax and enjoy the experience. We order two different soups for the entree and they were both terrible. Neither one of us finished our soup and we left due to uncomfortable feeling set by the waitress.

We have been here twice before and have recommended it to friends. But on this Saturday afternoon everything was disappointing. Waitress was useless. Forgot that we had ordered green tea first. Food - green curry tofu was decent. the chicken in the dishes - massaman curry and chilli chicken were lousy, Chicken felt stale and tough. Chicken pieces in the sweet corn soup were also bad we took out the pieces, rest of the soup was good. Massaman was especially bad and uneatable so we told the waitress. She offered to bring us spring rolls - we specifically asked for vegetarian knowing how bad the chicken was and we were served with chicken rolls - one bite as bad as ever. We have decided never to return.

What a terrible experience. We were served our soup and as we were eating it, our main courses came out and were put on the table. We had to ask to have the soup bowls removed. Food was tasteless. Service was terrible. It took longer to get the check than it did to get the meal and eat it. Wait staff was surly and unpleasant.

Nanking's decor was lovely, their food good and its in a good location if you are going to the theater. The service seemed inconsistent, they were either all over you when you wanted to have a few minutes or they were nowhere to be found. We also felt that they did not set aside tables for their reservations.

Surprised to find this decent no fuss Asian fusion restaurant right on Broadway and right near the subway - New Yorkers always want to eat dinner before theater and sometimes you just dont want to spend a lot of money and you want to be easy in and out at a decent value - good large drink - great staff - will be a staple - now go see Big FIsh!

We remembered this restaurant from our last trip to NY 6 months ago. We were around Times Square and figured we'll give them another shot. We remembered great food but terrible service and wanted to see if things changed. Well, no. We set down pretty quickly, but then waited 15 minutes for water and menus, and 10 more minutes for a waiter. At that point I talked to the manager who took our order. Appetizers were out within 5 minutes, great, but it took more than 30 minutes after we were done with it, for our entres to arrive, and again, only because I asked the waiter what's going on. The food is great. A bit pricy for Chinese food, but hey, they need to pay the NY rent... Even though I really like the food, I will probably will not go back

I love this hidden gem. The flavors are to die for. They linger on your palate leaving you wanting more. The service could improve a bit but I anticipate the staff assume they're only accommodating tourists so it's nothing to cry over. I'm obsessed with the Young Chow Fried Rice. This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in NYC. I'll be back in October for my birthday.

Nanking was a great find. I LOVE Asian Fusion food and Nanking definitely didn't disappoint. The food was bursting with flavor and was enough for me to enjoy some there & to have for Lunch the following day. The menu is very diverse with plenty of food options leaving plenty of choices for me to want to come back and try. Overall I can't wait to dine at Nanking again. Only tried a few menu items but they were decent. Nothing blew us away though and I felt like we could have found similar food for much cheaper and been just as happy. Their AC doesn't work that well so it was a little muggy in there. We picked the place because it was conveniently located for everyone but I think in general it seems to be a tourist only spot. I probably wouldn't ever plan on going back but I wouldn't avoid it either.

I went into this restaurant with high expectations. It's not that often that an Asian restaurant diss appoints me, but I ordered one of the pricier items on the menu Salmon. It was well, well done to the point where it was chewy. Salmon is a very difficult item to mess up while cooking, but this restaurant certainly overlooked it. They took our order, delivered the food and provided us with a check. They never asked about our meal or if we needed anything else. The sauce that came with the salmon was gelatinous.

I have an alergy to soy sauce (wheat) so I have to ask about ingredients at every restaruant. The chef offered to prepare any of the food I had without soy sauce, which is rare for a Chinese/Thai restaurant. We enjoyed the vegetable spring rolls, the Papaya salad was very large and had just the right spice, and my duck curry was delicious. I liked having the chili sauces at the table to add extra spice. We will be back!

Indian ice cream is a must try. The waitress said it reminds her of perfume. Lol. When we tasted it, it was more like soap. But it's good. Haha had like a rose kind of smell and taste if you get what i mean. Black pepper chicken was bland and the chicken was rubbery. American chopsuey was good. It had sweet and sour sauce. Their chocolate mousse was nice and light. Overall experience was nice. Not too memorable but good pre-theater dinner.
