A word from Nando Milano Trattoria
With decades in the family restaurant business, Dario Vullo has brought his family's legacy to the United States to share the great traditions of food in Italy to Chicago with the help of his fiancé and co-owner, Amy Yetasook. Amy is a newly proclaimed Chicagoan and med student studying to become a surgeon.

Executive Chef/brother Alessio Vullo and restaurant namesake Nando (a dignified Italian dachshund) complete the restaurant family. Chef Alessio holds the Vullo family secrets, instructing the team every morning in making fresh pasta, breads, and desserts to the highest Italian standards.

We hope you will stop in and experience our cozy Italian world.

  • "I discovered Nando Milano through an open table search. I can't believe I hadn't heard about this place before - it's excellent! We had 4 diners in our group and every one of us loved our dinner. The pasta (all homemade) was excellent; ditto for the starters and salads and fresh-baked bread (which you will want plenty of so you can sop up all that good sauce left on the plate after the pasta is gone). The wine list has excellent choices. Our waitress was top-notch - thoroughly versed in all the food and wine and able to provide really helpful descriptions to help us make our choices. All staff members were incredibly friendly and professional. It was nice weather so we enjoyed the great outdoor area. Will definitely be back soon!"

  • "I do love this place. Although it is tiny, it is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. The prices are decent, although the cocktails seemed a bit high. The service is always superb, the waitstaff is eager to recommend or suggest items based on your taste. I have not had a bad meal yet, but the only one complaint I had is that I got a pasta dish with shrimp and there were only 2 shrimp...I found that a little odd and skimpy...it was delicious though...just wished I had more shrimp! Even one more!!! There are very eager to please, but are not overbearing."

  • "The lovely patio outside was packed. Food was amazing! Yelena, our server was warm, friendly & had great suggestions (which we went with) Started with Pork Meatballs, Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio (both photo worthy & delicious) a Mixed Seafood dish & a Pasta dish. All Incredible! For main courses 2 of us had Branzino w/Asparagus which was light & tasty. Absolutely delicious! My husband had the Pork Chop which he devoured & the other man had Lobster & Scallops in a light, creamy sauce. We had a few wines w/dinner(nice list) then on to dessert. Apple Pie, heavenly (made in house) Cannoli, also delicious, along w/Coffee, Cappuccino & complimentary Biscotti. The owner, Dario, was very attentive & service was great! We can't wait to go back!"

Every dish that we tried was wonderful … the focaccia bread that we were served, the beautifully presented and delicious salad, and all three of us very much enjoyed our entrees … the lobster and pasta special, the rigatoni, and the lobster ravioli. The blonde pretty server Elena could not have been more helpful."

  • "Nando Milano is a must! First, the outdoor patio made you feel like you were in some European cafe. Second, the service was wonderful, attentive without being overbearing. Third, the food.....ah yes, the food! Everything was amazing. Gnocchi al Rosso were like little pillows that melted in my mouth. The papparadelle with pork ragu was outstanding. Did I mention the pasta was homemade? The mussels as appetizer was unusual and very tasty. Homemade bread was so good dipped into the sauce of the appetizer and pasta. The desserts were delicious. Dario Vullo, the owner, was friendly and charming. His chef brother, Alessio, is an artist. This is a must for an amazing dining experience!"

  • "We took my daughter there for her 18th birthday...based on earlier reviews, and we weren't disappointed. We sat outside, which I believe would be the preferred seating on the happening part of west division. We were greeted by Dario, the owner, with a friendly welcome. From our reservation, he saw it was my daughters birthday, and proceeded to double kiss her cheeks. Very sweet. Appetizers were unique and delicious; this included polenta with speck (cured bacon) and mushrooms...this was made to perfection. Dinner included a 1/2 lobster, mussels with the freashest pasta. Incredible! We also had the gnocchi stuffed with ricotta, simple but none the less delicious. Finished with tiramisu, cannoli, and gelato...just a great meal."

I went with some friends who live to try restaurants across the country - and Nando Milano has our vote as a top spot for those who appreciate food and pairings. Loved the lobster profiteroles, red snapper and fresco desserts (real pineapple and gelato and raspberry cheesecake - YES, PLEASE!   • "I've heard such great things about this restaurant that I was excited to finally give it a try. Sadly I was disappointed. I'll start and say the food was very good. Our group had a mix of pasta and meat dishes and everyone enjoyed their meal. Unfortunately this couldn't overcome the negatives. We sat outside on a beautiful evening. The problem here was the music at the restaurant was blaring and trying to compete with the extremely loud, live rock music coming from the pawn shop next door. We were all on sensory overload. Our waiter also was not ideal. His English was not great and he couldn't answer our questions and simply confused us. Don't waste your time here."

  • "Nando Milano is an ok restaurant. For the money I think La Scarola or Club Lucky are better. Not saying anything was bad. I was just not blown away by anything. In this age where everything is house made you have to do something different to seperate yourself. This is where they fell short. Don't order their $33 shellfish pasta. The shell of the lobster was covered in barnacales as well as being somethered in red sauce. How is one supposed to crack a lobster without getting tomato sauce all over your hands. To make matters worse they bring you a tiny moist towelette that was large enough to clean 1/2 a finger off. Not worth the money! Service was pleasant, but not solid enough to overcome the mediocre food."

  • "Because I live in the 'burbs I'd not heard of Nando's, but I have a tradition of taking a client who visits Chicago each May for the National Restaurant Association show to dinner at an authentic Italian restaurant. Both of us were very pleased with Nando, from the wine list and menu to the impeccable service to the extraordinary fresh dish preparations. If I have a complaint (I don't), it's that the noise level is a little high--probably because this quaint restaurant is small and intimate. The noise is endurable thanks to the high quality of every other aspect of the experience. I highly recommend Nando to anyone who wishes to enjoy a genuine slice of real Italy in the Windy City."

  • "Just when you might have thought that Italian food is getting to be a bit predictable-along comes Nando Milano Trattoria. The room looks like the neighborhood gems I dined in throughout Italy. Warm, lived-in, traditional. Italian food with a little something unique in every preparation. The braised octopus had all four at our table raving. Butterflied pork chop Milanese sets the benchmark for this dish. Tender, succulent, crispy. Caccio e Pepe (rare in Chicago) in a luxurious pecorino romano based sauce is like a quick trip to Italia. Baby lamb chops, grilled and roasted were perfectly cooked. Wine list is modest but varied; with reasonable prices & labels beyond the usual restaurant suspects. Dario and his staff are extremely welcoming."

  • "I heard the table next to us ask where the Nando Milano Trattoria chef buys the bread, pasta or gelato. His answer? They're all made in house. He told us about his Italian family's recipes made with a passion for exceptional, simple food. Real Italian in Chi-town? Yes, please!! We tried 4 dishes and 3 desserts. The lasagna bolognese and spinach-ricotta crepes - both light, uber creamy and out of this world. Pork shank and sea bass were melt-in-your-mouth tender. There are some go-to Italian classics when it comes to desserts...AND attention-grabbing tiramisu cheesecake, yogurt cheesecake + an Italian twist apple pie. YUM. Definitely making a patio reservation for our next special occasion! "

  • "Having lived in Chicago for more than 3 decades and having worked in the industry for half that time I have visited a lot of restaurants. One of the issues that I have had over the years is that for some reason the food I eat in Italy does not translate to the restaurants back in Chicago. I have found a few over the years that have come close but not until I ate at Nando Milano have I experienced the flavors and richness of a true Italian meal. Everything from a food perspective was like being transported back to the Italy. A perfect lasagna Bolagnese like nothing else you will find. The pork shank was perfectly cook and the Borolo sauce was exquisite. The friendliest staff you will ever experience and the best Canoli I have ever eaten."

  • "We have eaten at Nando's several times and first time in giving a review...the food is delicious. The pasta and bread, desserts are all home made by Alessio. The salads are fresh, crisp and so different, which is so nice, since I am a big salad eater. The risotto with peas, asparagus and bacon was wonderful. My husband had a generous portion of pork loin with mashed potatoes which was a very large serving and quite delicious. Highly recommend the restaurant and the service is impeccable. Abondonza!"

  • "this was our first time to nando, having heard about it for a while, and we absolutely loved it. we had the burrata which was on special that evening and it was so creamy and delicious. the pasta was flavorful and fresh, and all house made. the service was really great too, our waitress and the maitre'd were so attentive. they heard it was our anniversary and they comped us a dessert and a shot of orangecello (also house made). it was good, but we both loved the limoncello much better. overall it was a great experience, a cute space and very romantic. it did get a little noisy with very few couples in there, but it didn't get in the way of our dinner enjoyment in the least. overall, we had a great time at nando and will definitely be back!"

  • "Disappointed with my experience. First off, its very small and very loud. We sat in table in a middle row and the wait staff bumped into me a number of times. In addition, they required us to order the appetizer and the main courses all at once. Once we received the appetizer, the wait staff, bus boys and anyone else passing by constantly bothered us as to whether we were finished yet. The food was decent, but would definitely not go back."
