A word from Nando Milano Trattoria
With decades in the family restaurant business, Dario Vullo has brought his family's legacy to the United States to share the great traditions of food in Italy to Chicago with the help of his fiancé and co-owner, Amy Yetasook. Amy is a newly proclaimed Chicagoan and med student studying to become a surgeon.

Executive Chef/brother Alessio Vullo and restaurant namesake Nando (a dignified Italian dachshund) complete the restaurant family. Chef Alessio holds the Vullo family secrets, instructing the team every morning in making fresh pasta, breads, and desserts to the highest Italian standards.

We hope you will stop in and experience our cozy Italian world.

  • "We have eaten at Nando's several times and first time in giving a review...the food is delicious. The pasta and bread, desserts are all home made by Alessio. The salads are fresh, crisp and so different, which is so nice, since I am a big salad eater. The risotto with peas, asparagus and bacon was wonderful. My husband had a generous portion of pork loin with mashed potatoes which was a very large serving and quite delicious. Highly recommend the restaurant and the service is impeccable. Abondonza!"

  • "Having lived in Chicago for more than 3 decades and having worked in the industry for half that time I have visited a lot of restaurants. One of the issues that I have had over the years is that for some reason the food I eat in Italy does not translate to the restaurants back in Chicago. I have found a few over the years that have come close but not until I ate at Nando Milano have I experienced the flavors and richness of a true Italian meal. Everything from a food perspective was like being transported back to the Italy. A perfect lasagna Bolagnese like nothing else you will find. The pork shank was perfectly cook and the Borolo sauce was exquisite. The friendliest staff you will ever experience and the best Canoli I have ever eaten."

Super fresh mahi, tempting and tasty lamb AND new crispy polentas with shiitake mushrooms or a tomato/onion melange. Desserts? Delicioso any day! (Worth an extra workout to enjoy one, in my opinion.)   • "this was our first time to nando, having heard about it for a while, and we absolutely loved it. we had the burrata which was on special that evening and it was so creamy and delicious. the pasta was flavorful and fresh, and all house made. the service was really great too, our waitress and the maitre'd were so attentive. they heard it was our anniversary and they comped us a dessert and a shot of orangecello (also house made). it was good, but we both loved the limoncello much better. overall it was a great experience, a cute space and very romantic. it did get a little noisy with very few couples in there, but it didn't get in the way of our dinner enjoyment in the least. overall, we had a great time at nando and will definitely be back!"

  • "Disappointed with my experience. First off, its very small and very loud. We sat in table in a middle row and the wait staff bumped into me a number of times. In addition, they required us to order the appetizer and the main courses all at once. Once we received the appetizer, the wait staff, bus boys and anyone else passing by constantly bothered us as to whether we were finished yet. The food was decent, but would definitely not go back."

  • "We came out from the suburbs and even on a slow Sunday night, parking was nearly impossible. Main street itself is jam packed at all hours and most side streets are permit parking only so on the rare occasion you do find a spot, it's still a challenge. So give yourself time if you have a reservation. They do not do Valet on Sunday as well. Other than that (Since parking is always my biggest gripe), everything was top notch and perfect! I just feel bad for the restaurant as I know more parking around the area would also bring in more customers in to their business."

  • "I checked out the reviews of this place & figured it would be the perfect spot for a Valentine's Day dinner & it really was. The place is pretty small so I could understand why reservations were needed. I actually preferred the smaller size of the place. The dimmed lit room with the candles on the tables gave it the perfect romantic atmosphere, but the only downside to that was it was pretty hard to read the menu without putting it up to your face. The service was great and we were greeted as soon as we walked in & walked out as we were leaving. Probably the most important part was that the food was great! Definitely saving this place in my back pocket for any upcoming special occasions."

  • "Outstanding service and a lovely environment! You can tell they're a bit new as some small things with the meal were off. The ceasar salad had a great dressing but lettuce was cut so small it became difficult to eat. The pasta was very fresh and delicious I will go back, it was a good meal and I'm sure the kitchen was overwhelmed on valentines day, but there were some small things throughout the meal that were below par (presentation of tiramisu for example)"

  • "From Hostess-Maitre'd to our fantastic Server, Nando Milano had it all locked down. My date and I arrived to a very nicely appointed small shotgun style restaurant on Division St. Big picture window framed the street scape nicely. We were shown to our table by a lovely hostess, and with in seconds the maitre'd was introducing himself to us, really making us feel at home. Server came out, and this being first time at this establishment, she really guided us to the great dishes on the menu. I am not knowledgeable about Italian varietals, she surgically made wonderful pairing recommendations. Plan on returning with a crowd, as this is my new favorite spot in Chicago for Italian cuisine.WATCH OUT MIA FRANCESCA!"

However, this past time we where there it was impossible to read the menu with out using the light app on your cell phone! Other patrons in the restaurant had to do the same. We asked at least three times to turn the lights up, but where ignored."

  • "Each time I walk into Nando Milano I am warmly greeted, sometimes even with a smooch on the cheek. I don't know the owner or any of the wait staff, but I am always treated like an old friend. The place is small, dim, and most of the time Frank (Sinatra) is playing over head. VERY romantic and maybe one day i'll have a date here, but for now... it's Ladies Night with my best friend. We usually have a few cocktails which are good, but the reason I keep coming back is the amazing food. The pasta is like velvet, the seafood takes me straight to the ocean, and ravioli... *kisses fingers* This place makes me happy and everyone should come here with an empty belly."

  • "We were a little rushed due to theatre reservations but >70 mins should be enough time to eat. Waiter foregot appetizer order and was not completely knowledgable of daily offering. Mozzarella appet combined with tabule was unique and delicous together. Monk fish and beef ragu entrees were a plus, sea bass raviolli was not to my liking, Monk fish was much fresher. Nando worked to get us out in time to make the play which was appreciated. I would give it another try when we are not so rushed"

  • "I really don't know where to start. This is a very bold statement: That was the best dining experience I have ever had. I have been everywhere, I even noticed on FourSquare that Nando was the 35th different italian place I've checked in at (not even where I've been to, just checked in at). As soon as I walked in Dario treated us like gold. Talk about feeling like family, he intro'd me to everyone and even took me in the back to meet his brother (chef). Spent 3 hours there. The arrancini and baked mushroom with clams/mussels were insanely good. Ordered three entrees after that: Lasagna Cavatelli with prawns Crab stuffed ravioli with scallops The ambiance and food were ridiculous. I'm a native New Yorker and nothing comes close."

  • "First off, the pasta is quite delicious and I wish the staff at the restaurant acted a bit more confident about that fact. The service was sadly overbearing and a bit too pushy and promotional. The staff seemed very nice, but the abundance of "you're gonna love it," " you're going to come back over and over because the food is so good" comments from the moment you step in the door was a bit surprising and distasteful. The waitress also tried to push the most expensive item on the menu (white truffles) and pressured the table to order wine that was just a bit too expensive rather than giving cheaper options. Overall the food is worth going back for, but the service is a bit off-putting. A good neighborhood restaurant that could be great."

  • "Dario Vullo is the "front of the house" brother owners; Brother, chef Alessio creates the delicious food! From a genuine greeting at the door from Dario to the wonderful service from our server, Jelena, it was a great evening from start to finish. A variety of Limocello is made in house, including our favorite Limoncello martini, YUMMY! We visited during their Truffle Special. The homemade burrata cheese with black truffle oil and prosciutto on the side, as fantastic! The polenta with homemade sausage and shaved truffles was terrific too! Entrees ranged from perfectly cooked medium rare ribeye, to the Yellowtail made with truffles, to their menu stables of Gorganzola gnocchi and papardelle Bolognese. Visit this neighborhood gem!"

  • "We were a group of four...Two of us arrived about 10 minuets ahead of the other couple....We were seated immediately that was good, because it is a very small place and almost nowhere to wait inside....As soon as we were seated the waiter rushed to get us menus and began explaining specials....We explained we were waiting for another couple, but that didn't seem to bother him....He pushed to take both our drink and meal orders even though we explained we would simply have drinks until the other couple arrived....As soon as they arrived he continued pushing us to order....Once the orders were placed the waiter calmed down but remained attentive"

  • "Tiny restaurant with too many Eastern European hosts, servers and busboys trying to sound Italian while hovering within conversation distance of our table or constantly rushing around us. Wonder Bread pretending to be Italian. No serving spoons for dishes we shared. Menu items they didn't have. Tough overcooked mussels. Overcooked pasta topped with tasteless(!) desiccated truffle shavings that felt like ash in our mouths. Lamb chops Milanese pounded so thin and breaded so heavily it could have been paper Milanese. Our waitress was lovely but inexperienced and poorly trained (her first week on the job). We don't be going back. Two many other really good options in town."

The service was overly attentive - to the point that it became annoying. Our group was trying to converse but our waiter kept coming up to the table, interrupting our conversation each time. There was no wine and beer list. The food came to the table cooler than it should have been."
