Diner Reviews
  • "Started off we had to wait 10 minutes before anybody waited on us. Then i finally got a waitress attention, i asked who our waiter was and she said i dont know and when she walked away she looked at another waiter and said its not my table with an attitude. Then some one finally came over to wait on us. As my wife and i were coversing it started pooring down rain. And when looked outside to my left the valet guy had parked our car beside the curb and left the driver side window down and it still running. The valet never paid any attention, so i had to personally go outside in the pouring rain to roll up my window so it wouldnt get soaked any further. Other cars had there windows down too. Nobody apologized except the waitress."

  • "Had a great time during Restaurant Week. Jessica was our waitress and she was a doll!!!! Food was great and loved the drink served with Restaurant Week. Noise was loud but we had read about that. All-in-all, a great find."

  • "We went to Nan & Byron's on the Charlotte Restaurant Week special to try a new place. It was a great choice. The food and service were great. We got there at 6 PM on a Monday evening and it was not crowded at all. By the time we left most tables were occupied and the noise level was up but we could still carry on a conversation. All in all a great experience and we will be going there again."

  • "The food was delicious but as with most places, they don't always offer their best during restaurant week. I'm looking forward to going back for that pork chop with grits!"

  • "This was our second time eating at Nan and Byron's and I think it was better the first time. Maybe because it was Queen's Feast week they were just too slammed to maintain their quality. The hushpuppies were cold and somewhat tasteless although they were eaten by the others at the table. However, our waitress was stellar. She brought another (complimentary) app, which was also good, but not great. We will go back when it's not restaurant week to see whether our 2nd visit was just a hiccup."

  • "Food was great for restaurant week. However, disappointed with service. Server was very nice, but unacceptably slow. We waited 15 minutes after being seated before getting water or drink orders. A lot of time in between courses as well. Thankfully the excellent food made up for long delays in service. The manager was very pleasant. I haven't given up on Nan & Byrons at this point..."

  • "Great find during restaurant week. Nan's is very comfortable, the food is delicious, service excellent with a good atmosphere, only to get better with the additions that will be happening in the fall with a porch and actual outside dining on a patio. Our waitress was great and very bubbly, the whole place has a real upbeat feel to it. Nice neighborhood. Definitely will go back."

  • "The food, the ambiance and the service were all great! It's a little on the small side, but we did not feel closed-in or too close to any other tables or people. A Truly great experience! I could eat a buck of the basil aioli that came with the caprese!"

  • "Nan and Byron's is a restaurant we look forward to going back to. The food and beverage menu was varied and different. The service was excellent. Simple food prepared with fresh ingredients and interesting flourishes such as sweet and salty onion served over a filet mignon. The portions were very generous. The desserts were to die for!"

  • "Fine dinning with a hipster feel! The filet and apps were five star and the cool staff, sporting T's and Chuck Taylor Fishheads kept is casual and comfortable!!! We WILL be back!"

  • "All I really have to say about this place is wonderful! The food is great the service is great.....it's a wonderful experience every time and I feel it's the definitely the best bang for your buck for Restaurant Week!!"

  • "It was just ok. It was very loud and hard to have conversations. The food was underwhelming."

  • "Visited for the first time last week. Increadible find. The food was incredible surpassed only by the service we received from Sarah. This place is really onto something -- the decor, the coordination of staff, the ambience. It's a completely different place than when it was Vinny's. Great memories there and I'm excited to make new ones at Nan and Byron's"

  • "My husband and I went to dinner on a Friday night and we had the most pleasant experience. We just recently moved to Charlotte from NYC and this is by far the best restaurant we have found since moving here. The cocktails were fantastic, all fresh squeezed juice. We went during restaurant week so it was packed. The food was superb. We had the hush puppies, peppadew poppers, the filet mignon and cheesecake and brownie for dessert. Service was fast, server was great. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. We will definitely go back!"

  • "The brunch buffet spread is impressive upon first look, but some food was a little cold. Overall the food was good for the price, but eggs need to be served and kept warm. Also service could use some help, felt like we were bugging our waiter."

  • "Our waitress was a little lazy as was the bartender. What? No skinny mojito? really???? All you do is take out the sugar and replace with agave or splenda or stevia. How hard is that for a bartender and how hard is it to find out?....they weren't very busy. Food was good. The people who brought the food to us were very helpful and knowledgable. How about adding lights to the outside? Might help so people don't have to use their cellphones to look at the menu."

  • "We dine out regularly with our 2 kids, and Nan and Byron's is going straight into our regular rotation! The staff was very friendly and accommodating -- very quickly changed our table so we could watch the World Cup soccer game. We all enjoyed our dinner and can't wait to try some of the other things on the menu!"

  • "My wife and I dined at N&B on Friday night, and had a wonderful time from start to finish. The hostess, Rachael, was friendly, and promptly seated us at our reserved table. I requested a booth, and we were seated in a booth. Excellent...shows that they read the requests made through Open Table. Our server was Brittany, and she was great. We went with the pimento cheese appetizer. Not too much mayo, so it was right up my alley. My wife had the pork chop for the entree, and I had the Delmonico steak. We both absolutely loved our entrees. For dessert we went with Brittany's recommendation of the PB&J. Another excellent choice! Honestly, we could not have had a better time. We'll be back soon!"

  • "We went to Nan and Byron's for a special birthday dinner and we traveled all the way from Waxhaw. WE were greeted with a "Happy Birthday" and a card with coupons, which was very nice. It is a very casual environment. We did get a complimentary dessert for the birthday girl. However, the food was good but not excellent. The Salmon was salty, the corvina fish was overcooked and the vegetarian dish left my son hungry. We probably wont make a huge effort to go back!"

  • "I have been to N&B's over 10 times now, but it has been a couple months since the last visit. On Saturday, we had some family in town and I had been telling them how great it was all day, well when we got to the restaurant it was a different story. The service was dramatically slow which led to us just wanting to get in and get out. The menu options have changed a little from which resulted in at least a 25% price increase for the entrees but the quality of the food or service did not improve. Our meats were overcooked on three of our dishes, one which was compensated by the manager. As much as I liked the vibe and innovative menu I feel like the honeymoon stage is over and now they are just any other restaurant in the city at this point."

  • "Our group regularly gets together once a month....this time, I recommended Nan and Byron's....I had been craving their Beet Burger for weeks! It did not disappoint! Washed it down with some Dancing Cranberries (prosecco, white cranberry juice)....and finished off with some creamy coffee ice cream. Highly recommend! I'd like to try the meatloaf.....but can't seem to resist the Beet Burger. It's awesome!"

  • "I don't know why Charlotte seems to have so many popular yet mediocre restaurants. Starting with the highly acclaimed spicy popcorn they serve with your menu (it's tough and bland/Pop Secret out of the microwave is better) to the shrimp app which is ordinary at best. Their hush puppies aren't special; a dozen other restaurants have better. The little fried balls of something-or-other are maybe the best apps we tried. The Pom Martini is tasty but only about half a glass for nine bucks. It's an OK average place like so many other places around town but nothing would compel you to return. Oh, the noise level is HIGH and there's inadequate air conditioning in the garden room. N&B has a long way to go."

  • "Nan and Byron's is located on a congested corner with a tight parking lot. The outside dining is essentially in the parking lot, so we decided to go inside. Tables are tight, and the noise is at a high level. The wine list is ok, the beer list is very good. We had Peppadew Poppers for an appetizer and they are excellent. For entrees we had the meatloaf and the chicken, and again, both were really tasty and served hot. The service itself was very good, attentive but not intrusive, never rushed and the timing was good. We skipped dessert, so cannot comment on that. We had fun and enjoyed the food so we will go back."

  • "Better than I expected. Good menu, good food, great service, and interesting drink selections. Inside noise level is energetic, bordering on loud. Outside seating is too close to the parking lot. Parking is tight, but valet is available. A nice change of pace. I am planning to return."

  • "I had been wanting to try Nan and Byrons for awhile, but wanted to wait for the hype to die down a little. I went with 3 girlfriends on a wednesday night. Unfortunately, the patio wasn't open because of dark clouds overhead. My first impression of our table was that it was VERY close to the tables next to us, but having been to Vinnies before in this building, I was impressed with the re-design. Our server was great; very attentive and answered all of our questions knowledgably and patiently. I got a salad with shrimp, the others at my table got the tacos (huge portion), the burger (very juicy) and another shrimp salad. It was a very good salad, but I'm not convinced it was worth $16. It seemed pretty pricey- maybe lunch is better."

  • "Party of 4, consensus is the hushpuppies were good, everything else was at or below average. Chicken was dry, salad was bland, mac and cheese had no flavor, meatloaf was just okay. Everything was eatable, but nothing that would bring us back. Unfortunate, as we had been looking forward to some type of a special meal, prices certainly indicated it would be. Service was great. Place is nice and comfortable. We might have just hit it on a bad night."

  • "Nan and Byron's is a great place with good food. It is vibrant and I mean LOUD. It is not romantic unless you enjoy yelling at your date. It is good for large groups who want to yell at each other. We enjoyed it but we were glad to leave and give our ears a rest."
