Diner Reviews
  • "Naked Fish has outdone itself again. Amazing Omikase with great wine pairings. Too wonderful to describe. You have to experience it to believe it."

  • "excellent attentive wait staff, great specialized sake collection and recommendations from chef"

  • "The sushi rolls were delicious as well as the starter salad. Someone in our group ordered the steak, which arrived about 10 minutes after everyone else received their food so that was a little frustrating. The steak which was priced at $28 was only 3 oz and was literally the only thing on the entire plate! Even though it was delicious, we all ended up going to another place to have more to eat! The quality of the food is good, but we thought that the price was very high for the amount of food you actually got with each dish."

  • "Went for dinner and had the chef serve us whatever he liked. The rolls were pretty good, and the fish was fresh. This is a solid spot for sushi. I however prefer Takashi after finally eating here at the naked fish. I would eat again at the naked fish, but if I had a choice or preference, I would choose Takashi 9/10 times."

  • "We've been twice for the omakase experience and both times it has been so different and delicious. Sunny was our chef and is so friendly and a skilled sushi chef. My favorite fish was the shimaaji sahshimi and there was an incredible seared scallop course. The finishing course - the wagyu beef was AMAZING. We'll always remember our steer, Kameji. We will be back soon!"

  • "I have loved naked fish, and it has been my number one sushi place for awhile now. But changing their menu, especially the veggie rolls, has been a little disappointing and not left much variety. And the brown rice has not been available the last couple of times I've been there. Either the rice maker was broken or they ran out. Still very good sushi, but I really wish the same veggie rolls were available."

  • "Really fresh fish, no pretense, great service. I know why they are "best" in SLC"

  • "The food was amazing especially the calamari, but the service was disappointing. We had reservations and instead of taking us to our table the hostess flirted with a waiter for five minutes before taking us. To fill up the water the busboy was constantly reaching right in front of your face. I would go back because of the food but there service could be much better."

  • "We walked by a couple weeks prior Sunday evening and tried to get a table. They were two hours out for a reservation, which is fine but there were waiters standing around and empty tables. Not sure why they were turning away business. This time we were sure to get a reservation. Service was a little slow. All the food was bland. We wish Tekashi was open on Sundays."

  • "This was our second visit to Naked Fish. On our first visit, we stumbled in without a reservation, not knowing what to expect. The host was a bit cool and made us wait for quite a bit for a table, despite the fact that the restaurant was almost empty, and we almost left, but we were seated just in time. We were glad we stayed as we were blown away by the amazing food and service by our very knowledgeable waiter. We decided to return and try the omakase, the chef's choice dinner, and again we were not disappointed! Every course was beautifully presented and amazing to eat, and the whole evening was just a sheer delight. The wines that were suggested to us to pair with the food were spot on as well. We will be back!"

  • "The food was absolutely delicious. Watching the chef prepare the food was a treat. The staff were very attentive and the ambience is lovely."

  • "The Valentine's tasting menu was a wonderful adventure!"

  • "I work in the specialty food industry and I can honestly say Naked Fish is my favorite restaurant in Salt Lake. I particularly enjoy the omakase (chef's choice) dinner for special occasions, but for a regular evening out the sushi cannot be beat and Chef Tosh's ramen for lunch is absolutely superb. I cannot recommend it highly enough."

  • "Like I said, best sushi in town. But you also have to try their other offerings. Had the lamb and it was exquisite."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "This may have been an off night for the service, but certainly didn't meet the hype that it is known for."

  • "If you love quality sushi, this is the place to go"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Food was well prepared but portions were very small and overpriced. Menu was not very accessible and the waitress while very courteous did not help. Brick walls amplify the noise so forget intimate conversation. The survey term the noise level as "energetic", no it was shop floor noisy. This restaurant tries too hard to justify its prices and claim of elegance with faux chic presentation. Food was lost in the center of over large plates. The two scallop ( cut into four) entrée was surrounded by three inches of plate on three sides and five on another. Highlights were desert and the rice. There are better choices..."

  • "It's was a bit pricey and only a small verity to choose from the playboy was good the fish extremely fresh being a college student I could not afford to come back and honestly would not want to I love sushi but I won't pay for a 15 dollar roll again."

  • "The octopus dish was excellent-tasty, tender. The other dishes we had were merely okay-sukiyaki, spicy tuna. And all dishes were small tapas, very small portions, and expensive. Even plain white rice was $4.The warm saki- had only one available and it too was just okay. We waited 15 minutes for a table for which we had reservations when almost all tables were empty and clean. Waiter did know everything about the food. Service was incredibly slow. This place needs more staff, faster staff, more saki choices, larger portions. Lovely venue, gorgeously designed, serene, even the bathrooms, very clean. Good locale if attending symphony nearby. Valet parking $5 a good deal."

  • "1. Reservations for 6:30. Arrived early. 15 minutes wait, protest, then seated. 2. No lights. Menu unreadable without flashlight. 3. Ordered, Sapporo (only foreign beers). Long wait, none left. Waiter suggests Asahi. More wait, it is double bottle. Third choice "Tama no Megumi" charge is over $12 ($4 in Japan.) I protest, manager gave me concession. Waiter never told us about the Asahi size or excessive charge. 4 Food served mostly good, except beef tongue. Eggplant and tofu tempura good. Octopus, TINY amount served. 5. Service very sloooow with disappearing waiter. Bottom line: bad service, tiny portions, inadequate lighting, overcharge.."

  • "We've visited this restaurant before and were looking forward to another visit, but the menu had be changed. It was difficult to navigate and was lacking for variety. Everything seemed to be sample plates and we were hoping for a filling meal without having to order 3 different items."

  • "I had not been in in a while. Since they stopped serving sushi at lunch, they dropped off my radar. Had a chance to be downtown for dinner and was delighted as always. The fish is FRESH. The presentation is simply elegant. Service is impeccable."

  • "Just an overall disappointing experience. Tempura vegetables were undercooked and gummy. The waitstaff and greeter were not happy or upbeat, but "serious" and "stoic""

  • "The sushi is great, but the servers are top notch! The beer and saki selection is great too."

  • "Very fresh. If you want items other than sushi or sashimi Takashi might be a better option. Sushi is as good as you will find in California, Seattle, NY, or Boston in my experience."

  • "We found this astonishingly fresh and creative sushi restaurant in downtown Salt Lake on a flight layover. Meticulous, Japanese sushi masters use only the freshest seafood to prepare intricate and sometimes elaborate specialties, with subtle seafood tastes, never masking flavors with mayonnaise and Sriracha as so many places do. Never had a ginger blossom served with sushi 'til that night! Salt Lake City is hardly a culinary Mecca, but Naked Fish was as good as it gets anywhere. We couldn't have been more surprised and delighted with the authentic menu, including some freshly inventive presentations you rarely see. Reservations strongly suggested. We arrived at 5:30 PM with reservations, but they were turning people away by 6:30 PM."

  • "The Naked Fish is a true gem for excellent sushi in downtown. It's a bit pricy but every bit worth the experience. We will definitely go there again."

  • "Naked Fish is one of my favorite dining destinations in Salt Lake City. Their fish is nothing short of spectacular---the best traditional sushi in Utah! However, even more admirable is the restaurant's commitment to dining excellence. A high level of service, elegant presentation and the development of a small, but focused menu have kept me a devoted customer. Their adherence to using traditional Japanese cooking techniques and exclusive use of sustainable fish on their menu are to be lauded. Naked Fish is certainly not one of the cheaper dining options around (although their lunch ramen specials are a terrific bargain!), but I will return because of their quality and focus on excellence."

  • "Went here for new years eve. The service was awesome. The atmosphere was calm and romantic. The food was delicious. A little bit pricey for the portion size, but the quality of the sushi rolls was top notch. I would come back here again for a special occasion."

  • "We decided to go downtown to get dinner and see the lights. We love sushi so we chose naked fish after reading reviews and since it is right across the street from City Creek. The food was awesome and the service was amazing. The uni was great. We loved the rolls including the happy cow. There are not a lot of rolls on the menu, but the chef will make others on request. Everything was fresh and delicious. We brought our baby and they put us at a table out of the way as requested so we could tend to our baby if needed. The waiter was very responsive and very friendly. When I asked a question about a menu on an item instead of making up an answer he went to go ask the chef, I appreciate honesty and getting the right answer."
