  • "My only complaint. My reservations were for 7 along with my confirmation email however Nakama had them for 730 and then were mad when I showed them their mistake through my confirmation email. In fact the hostess pointing out on their screen that it said 730. It wasn't a big deal but it could be at a different time or day and what happened to the customer always is right.Especially when they actually are. So the hostess was rude and arrogant and less to be desired, at least if this was my restaurant. "

  • "We made our reservation on Opentable and under special comments listed our request for their birthday dessert with sparkler and gong. In order to make sure it happened I also made personal contact with the restaurant for the birthday request. That never happened but that was only the start. The five of us sat for a good 15 minutes and no one took our drink order. Then when our drinks came we ordered appetizers. The appetizers/rolls arrived when they were serving us dinner! Sort of defeats the purpose of an appetizer. After we were done having dinner the waitress came over and never asked about having dessert BUT she was quick with the $230 bill. We had been to Nakama MANY times before and it was our favorite but on this day it was the worst"

  • "We had a 7:30p reservation, party of 4. Did not get seated until almost 9:00p. Food was great, but not any better than other hibachi/sushi restaurants in the area. The manager was very helpful in the end as she helped out with our bill, but we probably won't be back since the wait was just unnecessary. Good food and drinks, people watching, very loud (almost club-like), and reservations only reserve you a spot in line to wait."

  • "Living in the South Side for the past 4+ years, I've been to Nakama over 40 times during that time. The food has been and still is of the highest quality. However, over the years (and particularly the last several months), the service has deteriorated. I could not tell how how many things went wrong when I was there on Sunday night (3/16). 3 of us went. None of us had drinks until after 2 of the 3 sushi rolls we ordered came out (the 3rd one came out way later - only after I complained - and it was the wrong roll - still pretty good though). Had to wait 10-15 minutes if any of us wanted a refill on our drinks - our whole table of 8 had several problems which we all discussed at the end of dinner. Overall, great food, poor service."

  • "My husband and I had reservations for noon for our wedding anniversary celebration, and were seated, it was empty and quiet. The couple that they sat with us had a baby, and it was very distracting , he was dropping things and crying....just made it hard to relax. I understand that there were no other guests at that time, but we did not have a choice but to deal with it."

  • "I always enjoy going to Nakama Steakhouse. The chefs are always entertaining. The food is always cooked to perfection and served off the grill right onto your plate so it is always hot and fresh. The Sushi Bar is a bit on the slow side, however, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. Last time I went, they were temporally out of Guiness :( but they comped my drink so it was all good :) I'll continue to patronize Nakama."

  • "There were 3 or 4 hibachi chefs working the night we attended. Although a couple of the chefs were energetic, we had a chef that just cooked the food. He had no interest in doing any tricks or entertaining the people that sat at the grill. You could tell he just wanted to finish the night and go home. I think if we had a more energetic chef, we would have rated this experience better."

  • "First of all, I DEFINITELY recommend making reservations; we went on a Thursday and my friend scoffed at the idea of making them, but was glad I did when we heard other guests complaining about the 2 hour wait. I love the atmosphere of the place. Everything was delicious-- their soup is a little spicy, but the ginger dressing on the salad is cooling and a little sweet (even my friend who hates ginger dressing wanted more!). Their specialty drinks/martinis are great, and you definitely get your money's worth. All in all, I would go there again, maybe next time with a big group."

  • "Made a reservation, which helped I suppose in the long run get say before walk ins, but still had to wait about a half hour to be sat. A lot of rules in order to be sat, wish I would have been informed before hand. So loud! We were a party of 6 and had to scream to talk to members of our party who weren't immediately next to you. Sushi came out at all different times, one member of our party got three rolls and a platter at all different times, but all before another member got the one roll they ordered (which was their meal). Drink I ordered wasn't fantastic, and our server was pretty absent, but it was extremely busy. Overall I thought it was over-hyped and over-priced, will probably go to a different restaurant next time I want hibachi."

  • "We had a truly amazing experienece from start to finish! including the fact that we had a reservation for 2(Bryan and I) but a friend of ours showed up to surprise Bryan and celebrate with us the table host quickly rearranged our seating so there was room for our friend next to us! as well as waited for our friend to valet park and sit down before taking the orders! it was fun Bryan loved his sushi also was very appreciative of the free appetizer and the hibachi chef was perfect. We will definitely frequent here when we are back in the city also telling all of our friends about our expereience how great it was! Thank You..."

  • "I have enjoyed Nakama for a long time and hadn't been there for about a year We went and the atmosphere is and always has been great! Fun, loud dining atmosphere. But I was rather disappointed when the food was prepared. First, I am sad there is now an up-charge to "fried rice" which was only ok and used to be included.... almost $4! The steak was prepared great and chicken too but lacked a bit of the flavor I was used to . Everything this time right down to the sauce we love was just, ok. Other local Hibachi spots are now topping my list instead Sad Face."

  • "As soon as we received our bills, we were asked to hurry up and leave so they could seat more people at our table, although it was a Monday evening and there was hardly a wait at all - not to mention we had made the reservation far in advance and were not at our table any longer than normal for hibachi. It was extremely distasteful and has turned me off to the restaurant completely, as this is not the first time staff has been rude and careless. I had made a phone call the next day & the manager was even rude to me about it."

  • "We come to Nakama frequently but this time it was terrible! The cook burnt the vegetables, and our lobster. He did not follow the traditional order of appetizer, vegetables, rice then main course. He cooked all the seafood first then we got our vegetables and rice last. I had my lobster before my rice and vegetables. He was terrible. The manager was not interested in why we were not happy. He could've cared less. I was extremely dissappointed in both the food and the manager. If I am dropping over $100 for a dinner I don't expect my food to be burnt nor do I expect no respect from the manager."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to nakama for dinner because in celebration of Veterans Day they were offering a free meal to military vets,, police officers, and firefighters. My boyfriend is a police officer. It was wonderful to see all of these men and women who protect us to get a very well-deserved free meal! And the food was fantastic."

  • "I have been to my fair share of japanese restaurants and this one is probably the worst I've been to. It was a Saturday evening so the wait for anything was a bit longer. Our soup had so much pepper that 4 out of 5 of us couldn't eat it. The hibachi chef burnt my appetizer and the shrimp, after that the rest of the meal was a bust because there was char on all the food so that taste permeates everything."

  • "Our reservations were for 830, we were finally sat at 930 where we waited another half hour for the chef. We were told that groups must be sat first so that they can stay together. So making reservations is pointless. The food was okay, the chicken very dry. Just an overall disappointing experience. Will not be going back"
