Diner Reviews
  • "The food is always excellent and creative, but a new "wine flight" menu is fun and well priced!"

  • "Nage has a limited menu but everything is very well prepared. Recommended if you are in the neighborhood."

  • "Nage used to be a bland restaurant but with really strong, interesting menu. They recently redid the interior - which is nicer - but slimmed down the menu substantially. It feels less fresh and varied. It was a cold night so I decided to have the French Onion Soup (a "classic" on the menu - although I don't remember it from before) and it was bad. The block - yes block, 2 slabs of cheese, had a burnt bitter edge and the soups itself was off. My friend had the fish. She said the sides were very good, but the fish itself was m'eh. This used to be my go to for Dupont Circle working dinners. Now not so sure."

  • "One of my party is handicapped. We called the restaurant and were told there was parking through the adjacent hotel. But when we arrived (in the rain), the hotel told us that there was no valet parking for the restaurant. So, not an impressive beginning. But the food made up for this problem. The wild mushroom baklava was delicious as a shared appetizer, and would make a good light dinner for small appetites. I had arctic char with mushrooms and butternut squash risotto. The fish was plain and just a little dry (but I like my fish a little underdone usually), the risotto was perfect. Two others in my party had the wild boar pappardelle, which was perfect for a cold wet night. Would definitely return for the food, but maybe without a car."

  • "This is a tried and true choice for us. Recently, the new chef has made some changes that are not to my taste. The shrimp small plate while generous with 4 large shrimp, was almost inedible with heat. This from someone who loves spicy Mexican and fiery indian. The other change was the burger. I usually don't order burgers for dinner but was having a craving for one so I ordered it. It definitely didn't satisfy my craving. It had a very acrid taste I think was from the tomato jam but it permeated the entire burger. I know that a new chef likes to put his stamp on things but these are not good. On a positive note the Warm Vegetable Salad is delightfil and the Short Ribs are mouthwatering. Miss long list of daily specials."

  • "This is my favorite restauarnt tied to a Marriott hotel in the United States. The employees are terrific, service is great, food excellent, and bar friendly and unpretentious. It is a great find in DC, but is the best restaurant next to a Marriott in the US; and i have 100 nights a year in Marriotts."

  • "This was our second time there and we'd consider returning. It seems to be a very well-run place - we particularly liked the wait staff, who were well informed, relaxed, but respectful and professional, knowing just when to give advice and when to back off. The restaurant is much better than most for conversation, even for a group - not too dark, not noisy. The food is good, with lots of smaller dishes as well as main courses, and some inventiveness."

  • "Love this place! You can always depend on a great meal. The attention to detail and personalized service makes you feel like they've welcomed you into thier home. The new chef sent out his BBQ oysters that were absolutely delicious. The daily features were amazing. I had the wild boar Ragu OMG so tender and succulent! My friend had the whole roasted grilled Darode on bed of potatoes, broccoli and white truffle oil. Wrapped up the meal with chefs bourbon maple pecan pie described as made with love and yes it was love at first bite. We'll be back soon!"

  • "No one acknowledged us for almost 10 minutes when we first walked in, even with reservation and not crowded! Waiter was not attentive, expected crab bisque to be creamy, instead was very oily. Kale salad bitter and tough. Hubby had crab cakes which had no taste. Waited an hour for food and there was hardly anyone in there!"

  • "I have passed by Nage countless times so finally decided to make reservations with my father and sister. They have a new chef who is trying to bring a slightly southern flair to the menu. We shared "bbq" oysters and a warm salad with mushrooms and squash. Both delicious. My father had shrimp and grits, my sister spicy prawns and a side of brussel sprouts and I had the short ribs. Everyone loved their food. Server actually recommended the short ribs to me because I couldn't decide between two other beef entrees and he was spot on."

  • "The food here can be excellent. Lack of consistency is a problem because once I find something on the menu that I like, I expect it to be made the same on future visits."

  • "Initially, my husband and I made a reservation at Nage and when we got there, they were closed. Needless to say we were very disappointment. I informed Nage about the problem and they quickly rectified the situation by offering us a complimentary meal. I'm glad we went back, it was a wonderful experience. They were very accommodating and hospitable. The service was great, we met the new chef, and had some amazing food; including chicken & waffles, mushroom baklava and the best oxtails I have ever had. It was clear they value and care about their customers. I will definitely be back and highly recommend you eat their as well!"

  • "Always a treat! I took my boyfriend (his first time, my 4th or 5th visit) for an impromptu dinner. He loved his burger! And the Lobster Mac & Cheese was TO DIE FOR!!!"

  • "I had excellent service! The server Angelina was amazing and the food was even better. I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's day and their menu was catered to everything she loved. I'm definitely going to recommend this place to my friends and family!"

  • "The ambiance at Nage is wonderful. The restaurant has a very modern/echo friendly feel that blends into a very sophistcated mash up. All of the staff were extremely friendly and served us quickly. The food was tasty and inexpensive. Everything we ate was good! I recommend this restaurant for date nights, its very romantic."

  • "Good decent food - especially given the price. We had a great waittress - friendly, personal, knowledgable. Food arrived quickly. Great cocktails. Food is creative and very tasty - though cooking could use a bit of improvement sometimes. Brussels sprouts were a hit, though a little bit soupy at bottom. Bacon fried dates a bit too burned but good taste (only 4 though....). Risotto was cooked very well but could have used a bit of spice; fish was great but a bit too dry. Crabcakes are just wonderful."

  • "Despite the fact that this place is in a Marriott, the food is fantastic and the service impeccable! They have delicious specials and a nice wine list. I would recommend it, truly!"

  • "Although it can be a little pricey for food, our server completely made up for it. I wish I could remember her name. Few waitresses have the perfect balance of being attentive , but also giving space to enjoy a private meal. The place is a attached to a hotel which you must enter though , but the lobby is pretty quiet and beautifully arranged. The peculiar moss growing out of the side of the wall was an interesting touch. The booth seats are a pretty far back from the table so we winded up moving to the seats section . Overall a wonderful evening. Would definitely visit again."

  • "I love Nage - whether its for brunch, lunch or dinner. Their food is great and the service is wonderful. It does not feel like a "traditional" hotel restaurant. The price point is really good - Its very hard to find delicious gourmet lobster mac and cheese at an affordable price point but they have it! Brunch is great - I go there more than I would probably admit. All around a wonderful experience."

  • "While this review is average, I've been to Nage several times and it's usually much better. Slammed with Restaurant Week diners, they had trouble keeping up. Still worth a visit, but go when dining levels are status quo."

  • "I stopped in here for lunch on a whim one day while walking about DC and was very pleased. Their Nage Frites (basically truffle french fries) are AMAZING. I went for dinner with a girlfriend and both our meals were incredible. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for both date nights and dinner with friends."

  • "As always, the food here is good but the service is lackluster for a restaurant in this fine neighborhood. Our waiter seemed hurried and a bit brusque. When my dining companion asked for mayonnaise for his burger, our waiter hurried back towards the kitchen but then didn't return. Five minutes later, we saw him taking other tables' orders and entering them on the computer. When he still hadn't returned with the mayonnaise, my dining companion got his attention and again asked for mayonnaise. The waiter realized he'd forgotten and promptly returned with the condiment but no apology for his forgetfulness."

  • "Went for lunch with a friend. I ordered the Pita Nage Classic. It was delicious. My friend ordered a special of the day and really enjoyed it. We cleaned our plates. The service was attentive. The prices were moderate for lunch. I will definitely keep it in mind for another lunch!"

  • "Recent meal was very disappointing. The special of beef short ribs and blue cheese risotto had no evidence of either, both by taste or visually. The risotto was so undercooked as to be inedible. The Arctic char was quite good, but unfortunately came with the same terrible risotto as a side. Butternut squash ravioli was for some reason sautéed rendering it tough and chewy. The decor and ambiance is nice but not enough to compensate for the food especially at this price point."

  • "My husband and I went here for dinner. The service was exceptional but the food not so much. We had one good dish, the qual with these mashed potato balls topped with candied bacon. Delicious, albeit too sweet. It kind of ends there. The calamari, while good, was accompanied with a very overly smoky sauce. The lobster mac-n-cheese was way too sweet and too strong on the tarragon. We also split the grilled pear/apple salad which I think must have had truffle oil on it and again, too sweet. It's a cute place and with service that good I hope they work on the food."

  • "For the food we received-, the price was pretty steep and the flavors either average or below. The crab bisque had a predominately salty taste, no crab flavor and resembled gravy rather than soup. The risotto side with the Arctic Char was not very good. The Char itself was tasty, thank goodness. The house salad was generously portioned, but nothing special in flavor. The crème brulee was disappointing, mushy texture and not very good. Service was excellent."

  • "My wife and I had a nice meal here, but there were two big downsides to our meal. One was the noise level. There was a very large group that was celebrating something quite loudly, and increasingly so as they imbibed. Can't put too much of this onto the restaurant however. I'm sure it was a big bill they couldn't' miss out on, but it was a bit distracting especially in a space that is extremely small. The second downside was the price. Entrees were $24 and up, a smallish bowl of soup was $8. Entrees were large and pretty well executed, but in all honestly I'd rather see a bit smaller portions, so I can sample more of the menu. Spending $27 on one huge plate cuts the rest of the menu out. I will say that our server was very good."

  • "The meal we enjoyed at Nage was delicious and the portions were large enough that two of us were able to share a salad, entree, and side dish and leave sated. The service was good, but not great as we had a few delays in getting our server's attention and were disappointed to have to ask for freshly ground pepper for our salad. Overall, our experience was good and we would return if we had plans in the area."

  • "Thank you Nage for my birthday card giving me 2 glasses of champagne and $15 off dinner! I have been routinely going to Rehoboth Beach location but was close by in College Park, MD for business and made a special trip to the DC location! Everything was fantastic including my side order of brussel sprouts which I ate as an appetizer. The strip was nicely cooked as I liked (medium rare) and the half of lobster tail was great too! Wish I had some melted butter but it was so sweet, I never asked! Thanks again! Both DC and RB are my favorite restaurants!"

  • "I frequent Nage for lunch with a coworker and typically the service is pretty speedy. This time the service was a bit slow, perhaps not enough staff people on this particular day. We had 11:45 reservations and arrived at 11:35. Seated immediately with only one other patron in the restaurant. We didn't leave until 1:30. We are usually out around 12:30. Again, this was not the typicaly service. The food is always outstanding. My two favorite dishes are the rainbow trout and the steak frites. The staff is always friendly and engaging."

  • "The service was horrible. Our waitress disappeared for big chunks of time with no explanation. There were 50 minutes between the soup and entree. Our meter ran out. She never filled our water glasses or asked us if we wanted more wine, soda, etc. The food was not hot when it arrived and since it was empty by the time our food came we were very confused. Other guests were asking us about it. Very disappointing experience."

  • "The service was great. Food was also delicious except for the BBQ oysters we ordered for appetizer. The oysters were not so fresh and we've had way better ones before somewhere. So that was a minus but other than that, everything was great."

  • "Everything was way over priced. The calamari was good but I had what they called on "the butternut squash ravioli" and it really was a very sweet pan fried dumpling. Ok for a small amount but not for an entree and not was I was expecting or wanting."
