  • "Wonderful 16 course Modern Kaiseki dinner. We savored every single masterpiece..... some items were so pretty, we didn't want to eat them! Super fine presentation, delicately balanced, and the utmost attention to detail and service. Perfect for those special occasions! Once again, Niki, you rock!!"

  • "A fourth time experiencing n/naka and each time has been exceptional. I miss the 9 course, less expensive alternative, but overall this restaurant is an experience not to be missed by any fan of superb food and presentation. Their accommodation to dietary restrictions was flawless and without fuss. I can't wait to have another occasion to splurge and return to n/naka."

  • "This was at least my 10th visit. As usual the dining experience was off the charts. As is her custom, Nicki outdid herself with creative, savory and beautiful courses we had never experienced before. That is her way and it never ceases to amaze me. I'm told she selects from a collection if 1,000's of courses and keeps track if what she has previously served to her repeat diners. She made one exception because I so enjoyed the dish on my last previous visit and she re-served her truffled pasta, which for my money is the best pasta in Lis Angeles, no exceptions. The uni dish was incredible as was the savory grade one Japanese beef. Another evening in culinary Paradise:-) thank you Nicki."

  • "I'm at a loss for words because this dining experience was felt deep in the heart and soul. It was my second time there and both times were exquisite...pristine ingredients executed perfectly and presented in thoughtful and creative ways. Service was very attentive while being completely unobtrusive."

  • "I think this might be the best restaurant in LA. The chef is truly an artist. Every plate she creates not only tastes incredible, but looks so beautiful you feel guilty putting your chopsticks into it. The meal feels like a symphony. The staff are also fantastic - wonderful servers and so friendly. No-one would think this small grey building without a name, in the middle of an average LA suburb, is a world-class eatery. We've eaten at 50 of the 100 restaurants on Jonathan Gold's top 100, and for us #1 spot is a competition between n Naka and Melisse. Our family from London were wowed! PS Their sake list is incredible, and they make great recommendations."

  • "This is my second meal at n/naka...both times for my birthday. It is a fabulous experience from beginning to end. The pride, talent and art of the food are breathtaking and the wine pairings definitely enhance the experience. Brought my friend who is a talented chef, herself, and she was wow'd! A wonderful time was had by all."

  • "My mom and I went to n/naka on our last night in California. The meal was really amazing from start to finish. Every course was special, great flavors, textures and presentation. It was nice to meet the chef Nikki at the end of the evening. She was lovely. I was surprised to find out that she had been the one to confirm my reservation by phone a few days before we went. It shows how much thought and care she puts into each dinner she serves. This is not the kind of meal that you could go out for very often but for a special occasion it is worth it. We are so glad that we were able to fit it into our trip."

  • "I am a foodie who favors Japanese food. I have been to many restaurants that offers a chef's menu including Matsuhisa and restaurants of his proteges as well as kaisekis in Japan. Chef Nakayama is fabulously talented. She understands the pureness of the ingredients and knows what flavors match well as to enhance the natural deliciousness of it. Each course surpassed the next. The timing of each dish was perfectly orchestrated and the wait staff very pleasant and knowledgeable. At the end of the meal, Chef Nakayama graciously came to the table to give her thanks. Wow. The evening was the best ever all the way to valet service. Would I come back? You better believe it."

  • "This was my third time to n/naka and it really lives up to the hype. The food is amazingly fresh and flavorful. Many of the vegetable ingredients are organically grown in the chef's private garden. Each gues is greeted at meal's end by the chef and sous chef and authentically asked how they enjoyed their meal. The ingredient combination and flavors are vibrant, original and delicious. The presentation itself is an artform - different colors, petals, textures, structures. I can't afford to eat here often but when it's a special occassion, definitely a go-to place. Also, the menu appears to change often so you won't be repeating the same dining experience from the last time."

  • "My wife, adult daughter and I went to n/naka to celebrate a birthday. We were treated to a 13 course "Modern Kaiseki" feast that was well paced, appropriately portioned, and exquisitely presented. The fish was as fresh as it gets - really superb sushi with just a little warmth in the rice that makes it all the more special. As expected, 13 courses is not cheap, but it really is a memorable food experience. The service was also well choreographed, so that all three in my party were served simultaneously. Our main server explained each dish as it was brought out and my wine/saki pairings were also discussed. This place is superb."

  • "Chef Nikki is a true artist. Not someone that needs to go out if her way to define herself. She just is what she is. For one of the best dining experiences of your life. Go to N Naka. This place also picks amazing wines and sake. I am usually concerned when getting a wine pairing. But rest assured at N Naka."

  • "Several outstanding dishes stood out in this fabulous 13 course kaiseki service: the pasta dish with abalone, the wagyu beef, the stuffed king crab claw, not to mention the assorted sushi served at the end of the meal. We will definitely be back. File this under expensive but more than worth it!!!!"

  • "Picked this resto from Joanthan Gold's 101 Best Restaurant of LA Times. True to the list, n/naka delivered beautiful and delicsious Japanese/French food as well as attentive table services. We opted for the wine paring and found only 1 of 7 was off. If you are a heavy eater, you'll might ended up picking up some fastfood on your way home."

  • "The Chef made a superb choice with her selection of fish as well as incomparable preparation of each course. I would certainly ( and have already) recommend this place to people who would enjoy tasting the best japanese cuisine of their lives."

  • "My husband & I enjoined the delicious 13-course dinner in December. However, many of the courses we had were lost in our memories. We much rather have the 9-course dinner and can remember them all and describe them our friends. We came here three times in one year, since the 9-course is no longer available, we have no plans to return anytime soon."

  • "N/Naka is a superb restaurant that is suited for that person who loves traditional Japanese food with a "modern flare." You must love raw seafood; the 13-course is dominated by a variety of shell fish and fish, both cooked and raw. Each course is brought to the table with an explanation of what is being served and how it was prepared. There is a second option for those who do not care for any type of meat/fish, which is a vegetarian alternative. As this is a "kaiseki" dinner, there are only these two choices."

  • "This is the best meal we have had. Every one of the 13 courses were excellent to amazing. Extremely inventive with essentially every element perfect."

  • "Eating here is not just a meal, it is an experience that you will remember forever. I have been to a lot of great restaurants but n/naka is so special, it is a "must try" for anyone that enjoys food that looks like a piece of art and tastes amazing. This place is not for someone that is a picky eater. It is for the adventurous diner that appreciates the work and skill that goes into creating the dishes that are served. Can't wait to go again!"

  • "This was my second visit to n/naka, and it was as enjoyable and wonderful as the first. I cannot do justice by describing the presentation and taste of each dish. The sashimi was high quality fish that melted in your mouth. I highly recommend n/naka for a special occasion or a romantic evening, and I look forward to dining there again."

  • "There's good and then there is N Naka. This is truly a one of a kind place. Let's be honest, with only a 13 course menu as an option it can't be anything but one of a kind. When you go a second time they will know what you had and give you an all new experience! So don't go just once."

  • "A 3 hour dining experience not to be missed. All of the ingredients were fresh! Received a phone call a couple of days prior to confirm and told they order ingredients for the number of people. Presentation is just as important as the taste and the chef is outstanding. Our waiter asked to wait at the end, that the chef would like to see us. Never had that happen, she just wanted to say thank you and if we enjoyed her food. Great place!!"

  • "I took the fiancee here on a Thursday night to get away from our usual Westside hot spots. The ambiance is low-key and simple, allowing the food to shine. The kaiseki diner means you place your faith in Chef Niki Nakayama's expert hands for a traditional multi-course Japanese meal. Don't let the small portions fool you: by the end of the night you will feel like you have eaten, due to the diversity of the tastes delivered to your table by the ultra-friendly and knowledgable staff. Standouts were Mushimono (Hairy Crab) and Shiizakana (Spaghettini with shaved black abalone and summer truffles). Special place for a special occasion or just if you want to enjoy fantastic food lovingly prepared."

  • "My significant other declares: Guy Savoy, French Laundry and N/Naka are her most memorable dining experiences. I have not been to Guy Savoy, but I have been to the French Laundry and other equally lauded restaurants in NY and Paris, and I can say that N/Naka can stand with them toe to toe. It is fine dining without the stuffiness, but with great care towards a comfortable and pleasant dining experience courtesy of the staff and chef/owner. Add this extraordinary restaurant to your bucket list."

  • "From first to last, it was a finely crafted opus. Each item was explained, down to the tiniest detail. The seafood was wonderful and perfectly cooked, highlighted by homegrown vegetables. The sake was a smooth compliment to the meal, and the pace was just right. The rice with the sushi was the best ever. There were maybe 16 courses, which change by the season, and the chef graciously greets each table at the end. All in all, we thought it lived up to all the hype and then some."

  • "I put this in my top 3 restaurants in LA area (the others are Providence and Melisse). I do not normally like Japanese food and find sushi at most places something I would rather not eat, but here, wow, everything was great. I am already planning on returning - once I save enough money. If you can go, then do so!"

  • "What can I say... 13 courses. 3 hours. This was an amazing experience. Truffled uni pasta. Crab. Some of the best sushi I've had. And the wagu beef course was just melt in your mouth delicious. Her soups are heaven. All seasonal fresh produce and meat. Chef Nikki is my hero. I really can't wait to go again. Each course was a delicious work of art. Outstanding. Run to this restaurant."

  • "I treated my friend to this exquisite tasting menu for her birthday, but we both left feeling like royalty. Each course was introduced: clear soup, steamed, beef, sushi, etc. Our favorites were the oysters, hairy crab, dashi broth with sea bass in a teapot! This healthy way of eating means we left satisfied, but not as though we had overeaten. Can't wait to return!"

  • "Outstanding food and presentation. Did the 13 course menu and wine pairing. It was interesting and fun to see what was next and how it was presented. They did I nice job of pairing whites, reds and sakes. Our server had a very strong accent, so honestly some of the dish compositions were lost in translation, but nothing was ever to our distaste. Pretty amazing accomplishment given it's 13 different presentations. Only negative was that it's very small and we had a loud group next to us. Found it to be a little annoying. A place like this doesn't feel like it should be loud. Ultimately, we agreed that it may be te type of place you go once and then seek out the next experience elsewhere, but it was still a pretty cool one at that."

  • "I've read many reviews regarding this restaurant. The food and presentation lived up to its reputation. Some reviewers stated they were not full after the meal, but I found the entire course to be a perfect portion. I wasn't stuffed, but I was full after all 9 courses. The chef was very sweet to have greeted us at the end of the meal, added a personal touch. The waitress was very nice and explained each dish. Only confusion was the valet. Although our parking ticket was validated we still had to pay the full price which is confusing, because you usually don't pay the full price just tips if validated. The only moment that made the night unpleasant."
