A word from Myers + Chang
Myers + Chang is a funky indie diner setting offering Chef/Owner Joanne Chang and Christopher Myers's very personal interpretation of Chinese, Taiwanese, Thai, and Vietnamese specialties. At Myers + Chang, we focus on sourcing fresh, beautiful, local-when-possible ingredients, using lighter sauces, and giving you either fun and innovative takes on classic dishes, or creating new dishes that stay true to the flavors of the region.

We are inspired by Taiwanese soul food and Southeast Asian street food, all done with a great deal of care. It is a personal, sometimes loose interpretation, to be sure, but our criteria are simple: everything we make must be fresh, delicious, and addictive. We are passionate about sharing our love of this food with you.

Some good and bad. Their website mentions dishes with "lighter sauces" but the two main dishes we tried were *loaded* with spices. The hostesses and most of the staff seemed very friendly, except our waitress, who just seemed bored. The decor was refreshing but the noise level was very uncomfortable, we had to shout to hear each other. And our credit cards were charged wrong. I will just stick with Chinatown.

  • Fantastic veggie food

Great veggie menu. Those veggie dumplings will definitely make me come back to that place. Also the pickled veggies were delightful. Very friendly atmosphere, great service, yet you feel like that you might be tucked away somewhere in China in an English-speaking restaurant - definitely has that authenticity feel. Dessert was impeccable, which is to be expected. We had the lightest and loveliest, chocolate peanut butter cake that is still making my mouth water. Seeing Joanne say hello and clear one of our plates was also the highlight. Awesome place, visit if you haven't. You won't regret it especially if you love Asian food but restricted by a vegetarian diet.

Very disappointed on our second visit here. Waitress sloppy; when asked about heat of dan- dan noodle dish( I had failed to see 3 lines) she said " that's not very hot at all". Could not eat dish; never asked us how first 3 plates were until we were done. Never offered to take charge for noodles off check. Generally appeared to be wishing she were anywhere but Myers and Chang. Based on this experience would not make another return visit. On our first visit last November on a Saturday both Ms Chang and Mr Myers happened to be in the restaurant; perhaps that was why both quality of offod and service were far better.

Our food was wonderful - the wok roasted mussels were a real stand out - absolutely delicious. The restaurant was louder and more bustling than we expected but that's not a problem. Our server- Sara W. - however was very curt and borderline rude. Didn't smile until we asked for the check. Didn't say excuse me when clearing the table. I noticed she was the same with other tables. I don't think servers have to be ebullient or phony but she was, as I said, almost rude. The interactions we had with other servers were very pleasant though and they seemed to be very friendly. Maybe she was just having an off night which I understand but as I said - it colored our experience.

  • Friendly service--but SLOW
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

The staff was wonderful to make some accommodations for our who are vegetarians (one being a teenager) but all the veggie dishes were brought first and there was a good 20 mins before any of the other dishes came out! And they kept saying "that's the last dish" until we would remind them that we had two more items coming. So recommendation--don't lose sight of what you ordered and maybe not the place to take a vegetarian--it was awkward to watch one eat while the rest of us waited--so we ended up eating the vegetarian dishes. They have a separate menu for vegetarians so it wasn't that they weren't aware that we weren't all sharing. Timing was definitely off. But good food, pleasant staff otherwise.

We frequent Myers and Chang because of the wonderful flavors in the fusion menu, the inventive menu, and the sheer enjoyment we get from the various dishes that come out of the kitchen --even tofu! Food comes out when it is ready, and for two couples, there is much to share and enjoy together. This is a great spot for groups, and a great culinary experience of a different type. On this Tuesday night, the place was full!

I was very late to the party here. I always wanted to go here and never found occasion or time. I went this past week and the food was mediocre at best and some of the dishes were not cooked well, meaning overcooked and slimy. Some of the dishes were decent but nothing special. its over priced for what you get. the waitstaff were good. the food took some time to be honest.

Went to Myers + Chang after seeing the executive chef on Beat Bobby Flay on the Food Network. Was delighted to see on yelp and on their online menu that prices were extremely reasonable. Made a reservation ASAP and looked forward to eating some Asian Fusion! After eating there, I was pretty disappointed after such high expectations. Portions were quite small (no wonder they can afford to charge such affordable prices), food was so-so, and my beer was a bit lukewarm. Didn't realize my entree didn't come with rice and I also failed to see any shiitake mushrooms in my dish that was promised on the menu. The tortillas for the fish tacos were limp. Service was also on the slower side. All in all, I probably wouldn't recommend to a friend.

The food typical trendy Asian food, good flavors but still a bit too much and too saucy. I would recommend the brown rice entree because it is not too saucy. They have an extensive selection and I wish I was able to sample more things. Even though there is a vegetarian menu, the normal menu is very meat heavy so vegetarians beware. The service was mediocre. Upon arriving for a 6:30 reservation, they told me I had to be out by 8:00 because someone had reserved our table; I find it incredibly irritating when restaurants do this. Also, they brought over the wrong digs several times. Still, they were all very friendly.

Myers and Chang is known for their modern interpretation for traditional Asian cuisine. Yes,it is absolutely one of best eating experiences in Boston and within the South End (where the real good food in Boston is). Several restaurants in the area have wonderful staff, talented chefs, and flavors that are on point. However, Myers and Chang is the best at it. Every dish always tastes the same every time you dine there. It is the type of restaurant, where one finds their favorites (the nasi and mama pork fried dumplings), and is excited to order them and pick a few new items to taste. It is always a pleasure to dine at Myers. I am looking forward to my next meal there.

Had just arrived from London the day before and felt like Asian-inspired food for lunch. Had visited M and C some years before and enjoyed it. All pretty much as before at this well known Boston joint, nothing has advanced, but two of my courses had a distinctly burnt flavour. A taste that I still had in my mouth a day later! Not good. Add to that some tummy troubles as a result and it's safe to say we won't be going back. Such a shame with so much going on in the Asian or Asian fusion restaurant scene that this place is stuck in a bit of a rut. The lunch menu is uninspiring, even tame, and could seriously do with a makeover. When visiting from outside town it's hard not to feel that Bostonians are being short changed by this place.

We started off by being greeted and seated promptly by Alex, and Sipha was a wonderful guide to our first visit to Myers + Chang. My wife and I loved the "Joanne & Christopher" Cheap Date Night special! The Papaya Slaw. Pork Belly and Arctic Char Roll all delivered multiple layers of great flavor! While we were not fans of the Spicy Silken Tofu, we were introduced to the amazing Salmon Tartare by one of our servers. The rice milk panna cotta gave a wonderfully balanced finish to the meal. my wife and I usually say a place always has room to improve...and while one dish seemed somewhat "one-note" in comparison to the many layers of flavor in the rest of the food, the service certainly made up for any minor flaw in the food.

So we love Myers and Chang. It is ALWAYS fabulous food. We have eaten here many times and never had any issues so this must have been a "one-off". We had several dishes (tofu/pork dish is phenomenal and broccoli bites are to die for) and several drinks (wine...husband had a great IPA Innocence). Our service was terrible for some reason. She forgot about us (I think). It took way to long to get our drinks and then she never came back. We were sitting there with all of our food with no drinks...not even water. I finally had to ask another server about our drinks...that is when things turned ugly. Our server then became very rude...she would just plop things down in front of us without saying a word. Great food but terrible service.

Myers + Chang had been on my list of restaurants to try out ever since it was opened, but it took a while for me to get there. But the wait - and the trip - was well worth it. We ordered the braised pork belly buns (excellent, great balance of flavors), pork and chive dumplings (very good, well fried but could use a bit more seasoning), and the rainbow trout with coconut rice (nuanced flavors, tomato jam isn't all together necessary). The service was great, and we even got a chance to see the owners pop in and bustle around the restaurant.

The bartender was amazing. She was so friendly and although busy she took time to explain the menu and give us her recommendations of what not to miss. At her suggestion we started with a carafe of summer sangria. It was perfectly balanced and a fresh way to start the night. My dinner companions moved on to the bloodlust margaritas. They were amazing, full of flavor and perfectly complemented by a sriracha salt rim. We were served some complimentary asian pickles to whet our appetites and before long were seated at a table for four alongside the open kitchen. We decided to eat family style. We tried the lemony shrimp and pork and chive dumplings,Szechwan Shrimp, crispy whole fish and Indonesian rice. Everything was wonderful.
