  • "We walked through the door of the unassuming entrance and was pleasantly surprised. The food was great and the service was impeccable! We will certainly be back..."

  • "We were a group of 4 who shared a variety of plates. All of the dishes we tried were outstanding. Only complaint is the classic margarita. Tasted like a cheap mix. Work on the beverages and this could be a 5 star!"

  • "I came for the cuatro queso quesadilla but had the fish as my dining companion was on a strict diet (and they were out of mole ribs). I had the rock fish and it was so delicate and well prepared. it was delicious. And the presentation was just beautiful. Great sauce with lively flavors. It was outstanding. My friend had the snapper and loved it too. She was afraid it was too good and that mean she shouldn't be eating it. lol. We will be back for seafood. And the mole ribs."

  • "At the last minute our group grew from 6 to 10 people and the manager and his staff accommodated this without complaint in minutes. We had a terrific meal and the service was great. Four of our group had the tacos and shared three different kinds, two had steak, two had the sea bass, one had salad and one had quesadillas. Every meal received compliments. We will be going back."

  • "I live in TX, so I know a good Tex-Mex joint and this is not that not does it want to be! Cool upscale vibe. Good blend of traditional and creative new Mexican flare. Good selection of S American and Spanish wines - The Vall Llach Embruix from Priorat is KILLER! Pricey, but well worth it! Do yourself a favor and try ALL the tacos (will take a couple trips)."

  • "This was not our first time at MXDC, we have really enjoyed it in the past. We were taking friends that had not experienced it before. Foo was good as usual, it was quieter than most other times as it was a holiday weekend. The waiter we had was young and no other words, but very annoying. That really impacted our dining experience. The temperature in the dining room was way to warm. We asked about it and nothing seemed to be done about it. this was not a very enjoyable meal."

  • "We went to MXDC for a late night dinner. The service was great, and they did look after the kids well as well. The food was excellent. The beef was outstanding, and so were the tacos. The ambiance is nice, and we would definitely come back to this place. We were not rushed, and even though it was late, the staff were upbeat and eager with recommendations. The desserts were loved by all. They were inhaled by the kids, so we are going to have to come back to get our own desserts some day."

  • "This is my second time at MXDC and probably my last for a while.. Our family arrived for a late dinner on the 4th of July, but to our dismay, our waiter managed to completely confuse our order. They served drinking water that was at room temperature. We asked for cold water but it never arrived. We then ordered our food. Our kids food arrived, but ours didn't. needless to say, we were upset because we wanted to eat all together. After waiting some more, the manager arrives and asks what we wanted to eat!! it turned out that the waiter never put our ordered our food. Needless to say, we were completely bummed. It was past 11 pm by then, so we decided to leave. At least the manager was kind enough not to charge us for the kids food."

  • "Ate at MXDC for the first time late afternoon on July 4th, before the Mall fireworks, so maybe not a fair time to critique the restaurant. Nonetheless, food was better than average, but not great or fantastic. Service was great, even with the hectic evening ... a nice surprise. Dining area was HOT and stifling (almost like no A/C or even no air movement), even though the day was only in the low 80's. The ceviche that everyone raves about was not even close to real Mexican ceviche. No lime juice tang, no kick, very little fish, pretty bland. A really BIG disappointment because we are ceviche lovers. Will give it one more try at a less chaotic time to give it a fair shake. Top 20 in the District? No. Top 50? No."

  • "Took 45 minutes to get drinks and 1.5 hours to get food. They seemed to be very understaffed for the night we were there. Limited menu and food mediocre to poor. The Mole de Costilla appeared to missing the mole and the two ribs served were mostly bones and fat. Asked for the Grilled Avocado instead of the Carrot Kimchi on the Grilled Terres Major and were simply told "no." The Grilled Chipotle Corn on Cob was an inch long section of very overcooked corn, the teaspoon of corn on that cob was very gummy. The tacos did look good, but unfortunately we didn't order any. Probably an off night for them, but we'll not be back. Too many other great restaurants in this area."

  • "MXDC is AMAZING! We were in town for a weekend trip for our anniversary and ate there the last night. It happened to be the restaurants first anniversary. Our waiter told the manager it was our anniversary too and came by with champagne for us to enjoy! In addition to the exceptional service, the food is delicious. You have to try the fresh guacamole! The grilled corn with chipotle butter was out of this world. We ended up finishing the meal with tres leche, best I've ever had! Make sure this restaurant is in your plans next time you are in D.C."

  • "Outstanding venue! The quality of the food is only rivaled by the outstanding service. We had 6 food items on their menu and at least 5 varieties of their menu drinks. Plain and short, this is a phenomenal place to dine. The atmosphere and decor are impressive. Based on what we had the pleasure to taste, I'd guess the rest of the menu is equally satisfying. Honestly, we've been to a wide variety of DC restaurants (think high double digits), and this place lands in the top ten. PS- We're not tourists! This is a solid local opinion."

  • "I have three words-O.M.G. I found this restaurant last minute on Open Table and am sure glad that I did. Everything that we ordered was amazing. We split three taco orders and two quesadillas for a family of five and we all loved each plate. The guacamole was yummy and the drinks were creative. Our waiter was friendly and informative. I wish Mr. English would bring this to Boston!"

  • "As we had enjoyed this place previously, we decided to book a reservation for our anniversary. The food was phenomenal and the staff was great both times. The only issue we encountered was not at the fault of MXDC, but of other diners, who though it was a good idea to bring their shrieking child (who looked about 5) and ignore him entirely while lingering over desserts. This is an upscale Mexican place, and really not for kids...even the waiter said that generally this is an adult restaurant. The kid was making a ton of noise, and the two women with him were not attentive to him at all, despite the entire restaurant glaring. We otherwise had a lovely time. Will absolutely be back."

  • "I am from the Caribbean and have been exposed to all kinds of Latin American food. While I did not have the high expectation of the food being authentic, at least I was hoping that it was good. Unfortunately, it was not a good taste experience for me and it was disappointing given the price of the entrees. The appetizer I ordered (Guacamole Traditional) was the only thing I enjoyed. The side dish of rice and beans is average nothing too special and the rest it was just not good. I ordered pork with pickled onions and it was not good at all and/or close to what Mexican food should be. For dessert, we ordered Churros and Tres Leches both had weird tastes (cake had rosemary and chocolate sauce way too much licor)."

  • "We had a very delightful experience at MXDC. The food was not at all disappointing, service was great and they even comp'ed me a birthday meal! I most definitely would come back and would recommend this restaurant to a friend. The only not-so-good comment I have is that I was not a fan of rosemary in their tres leche dessert item. In my opinion, the flavor of the herb just didn't belong and ruined the cake for me."

  • "The tacos were exceptional and the lobster guac was pretty good. A little loud if you are trying to catch up with a friend, but easy to walk from metro center"

  • "Nice romantic setting, excellent location and great service are the only saving grace for this over-priced restaurant. The food was blah and the menu choices were not too exciting. The drinks were good but they were again not worth it. No wonder the restaurant was more than 1/2 empty on a Saturday night at 8:30 PM."

  • "I've now been to MXDC about 4 times over the past 7 months, and it is still solid. But the menu needs some freshening. My other concern is that the service was too fast. My friend and I got our food five minutes after we ordered."

  • "We had dined at several of Chef Todd English's other restaurants, but this was our first visit to MXDC. We started at the bar for a business meeting. We were worried that with the World Cup on the TV there, it would be too hard to hear, but it was not. We then retired to the dining room for dinner, and took our excellent server's suggestions, regretting none. The wine list is short, but pretty well stocked with selections to accompany the dishes served. I felt that there was slightly too much focus on Chilean wines, but there WERE still viable options, all priced fairly."

  • "Great server, great food. Unfortunately, the noise level was over the top. It was good that I was a solo diner because I would not have heard anything a companion might have said. Aside from the noise, it would be one of my favorite DC restaurants."

  • "We had a lunch for 8 people and everything went very well. We really enjoyed the guacamole and chips and the open faced quesadillas. This was our second time at MXDC and both have been very good."

  • "I picked this place because my girlfriend's favorite cuisine is Mexican. I have to say I was very surprised at some of the menu items offered. We started off with lobster and corn guacamole, which was PHENOMENAL! Then we went on to split a branzino with a side of brussels sprouts - not quite what I expected from a Mexican restaurant, but it was a wonderful surprise altogether! Fantastic meal - topped off by perfect churros and chocolate."

  • "I have not eaten Mexican food this good in a long time. It's not traditional, which is one reason I loved it. Fresh and tasty and there was no sign of a bean or yellow rice. The best guacamole ever tasted and I've tried lots. The chips were thin fresh and crisp and the tomato-based salsa was terrific. The tomatillo salsa had some tasty heat, tho not nearly as much umami as the other. I had to consciously avoid killing my appetite with just these items. The lunch entrees were excellent, too. The goat cheese quesadilla was like a flat bread pizza - much much better than the standard issue gooey mortar between tortillas. And the chicken tacos were delicious and just the right size. An excellent meal from start to finish. "

  • "I loved this place and had a great time with my friends (we're in our early 20s) but our night was almost spoiled by the large group of raging drunk, loud, obnoxious middle aged women at the table next to ours. I don't know what they were celebrating but one time a lady shrieked with laughter so loudly I actually flinched. If it weren't for that group, the ambiance of the restaurant would've been perfect- dim, well decorated, and comfortable. Our server was outstanding, attentive, and chatty and we were seated promptly. "
