  • "Our server was the best we've ever had -- at any restaurant anywhere during the past 40 years. Bright, friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and solution-oriented. She had amazingly helpful recommendations and a sunny disposition on a rainy night. The food was among the best we've ever had, including THE BEST guacamole, sea bass and --are you ready for this -- brussel sprouts. The manager was engaging, warm, and genuinely interested in us and our dining experience. MXDC may be the best restaurant we've ever visited (and we've eaten out thousands of times). We were thrilled to have found it on Open Table and will definitely go back every time we're in DC. "

  • "Nice atmosphere and a good location for going to Warner Theater afterward. Food was very good with nice interpretation of Mexican food. Presentation was also very nice. Really enjoyed the beverages. While the waitress was pleasant, she seemed like she would rather have been elsewhere."

  • "Our third visit. Azul Guac still the best anywhere, great house margaritas and sangria. Fish tacos just OK, seafood quesadilla a bit bland. Both needed salsa. Chicken tacos and veg quesadilla excellent. Service quality dropped compared to both previous visits, to include a 10 minute wait for our margaritas while sitting in the bar area. Still a fantastic location and resons enough to return."

  • "I think lots of DC is afraid of spice, but MXDC is willing to give some a try. The windows in the bar/hightop area are great for people watching, the staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. The portions are small so you can try lots of things and there is lots of variety on the menu."

  • "We had a drink at the bar and fantastic guacamole before sitting down in the restaurant for dinner. Despite one vegan and the rest vegetarians in our party, we were intrigued by the variety of offerings. The food was very good, the guacamole spectacular and the prices really spot on. The service was very hospitable, as well. We'd like to see the menu expand to include more options for a vegetarian who doesn't eat mushrooms - she opted for the four cheese quesadilla which didn't live up to our expectations and was the only low spot in our menu. We will definitely go back - spacious and comfortable seating in the bar makes it a natural happy hour destination."

  • "I had a wonderful server, loved the meal and was legitimately impressed by the cocktail selection. As a former server and bartender, I was incredibly impressed by the server's knowledge of the menu and bar selection. After telling her a basic idea of what I was craving (fruity, not sweet and smoky if possible) she picked a drink for me that embodied all of those things. The menu selection was phenomenal- my only qualm was that some of the items I would've preferred were only served in two-person portions. What my friend and I chose was perfectly cooked and portioned- I had a couple of small plate items and a TON of chips because both of the salsa options were addictive (now I'm craving them, darn it)."

  • "Not your average south of the border cuisine and a far cry from Olives, MXDX offered a great array of food and fun. We never got to the main dishes, though, as we enjoyed appitizers and all types of tacos and sides. Creative and tasty. Would do it again."

  • "The service and food were top notch, but I'm not sure I'd go back with the noise level."

  • "We've eaten at every restaurant in this space for the last 20 years. For some reason, the space cannot seem to hold a consistently good restaurant, and MXDC looks like it will continue the trend. The wait staff was the most poorly trained we've come across in a long while. The food was mixed, but not good enough to bring us back. A pseudo-trendy restaurant that won't be around in five years. It's kind of a Boqueria wannabe, but not even close to the same league."

  • "There are so many good Mexican restaurants in Washington, DC. This one tries to hard. The restaurant is very, very loud. The wait staff seemed confused and wandered awkwardly around the tables to serve customers. Don't bother going here. Check out Ceiba (same block) or Rosa Mexicano instead."

  • "Dropped in about 9:30 PM after attending a lecture at the Smithsonian and had tasty unhurried meal. The Azul (blue cheese) guacamole was very good. My girlfriend thought the menu over-promised the size of the 7-spice lamb shank, which was delicious but not large enough for two. I enjoyed the beef tacos. The room was a a bit noisy, but bearable. We will return."

  • "Had a great meal where we shared smalls plates amongst 4 of us- Only possible negative was the noise level- super loud! Service was wonderful."

  • "I'm an annoyingly picky eater, and trendy restaurants tend to turn my taste buds away, but MXDC offers something for everyone. And the best thing on the menu: freshly-made guacamole. We ended up asking for a second order. The food is quite tasty too. If you like tequila, this is the place to go."

  • "The food was excellent at MXDC. The paella was the best I've had outside of Spain. Fantastic job with the pork shoulder as well. Definitely planning to go back very soon."

  • "The food was excellent. We liked the innovative creations such as grilled watermelon in a salad and exotic mushrooms in tacos. The service was friendly and professional. Our waiter Carlos was awesome and the matre'd was good humored."

  • "If you have not been to MXDC you should go. Ask for Carlos to be your server and you will have an amazing time, wonderful food and an enjoyable evening."

  • "I took my husband here for his birthday, and everyone from the hostess to the manager and our waitress were very hospitable and acknowledged his birthday. They made a point of sitting us in a quiet spot which was nice. We really enjoyed the snapper ceviche, tacos and the drinks were delicious. Thanks for a great night!"

  • "New twist on old favorites - best ceviche I've had since sitting on the beach in Manzanillo. Also ordered the tacos and guacamole - not what we expected - pleasantly surprised. Entrees were outstanding. Carne asada and camarones w/peppered noodles. Sangria and margaritas were perfect. Extensive presentation of tequila. Very much enjoyed the ambience and interior. Waitress was reserved but very efficient. Hopefully you will open another MXDC in Loudoun County !"

  • "I went to MXDC for lunch and was very pleased with the experience. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive. I will definitely go back. There were plenty of tables and it was not at all noisy over the noon hour."

  • "This was my first time at MXDC, and I really enjoyed it. How can you beat $20.14 for a 3 course meal that includes a margarita? The service was fast and solicitous and the setting pretty. I will definitely go back again."

  • "Went with a colleague for her birthday. Though food quantity looked small, quality exceled and after having the great guacamole and chips (many) and the tacos, we weren't overstuffed, but was not left hungry. Server and manager both made us felt welcome, offering food suggestions as my guest was vegan. They have very few options for vegan/vegetarian people."

  • "This is a great spot for the professional crowd. I come here for lunch somewhat frequently. The menu offers decent variety and the service is very attentive. It's upscale enough to bring clients who are in town, but not boring. Solid all-around choice."

  • "Need I say more? it was very succulent, and very well presented. The food was very authentic to its origin, and a great change from what has become more American than Latin/Mexican food."

  • "A pleasant discovery in the d c food scene. The guacamole lives up to its reputation is really yummy, the food is Mexican enough and contemporary enough . The service was especially good and we had a surprise visit from some Brazilian carnival dancers ...."

  • "The service and ambiance is fine. My wife and I shared the paella for $36. The portion size was enough for two, however it contained a minimal amount of shrimp, chicken , sausage. No lobster and several mussels. The food tasted good ,my problem is that for $36 one would expect more (rice is cheap). Also, a $10 margaritta should be a larger portion."

  • "I can not hold the extreme noise level against them but this is not the food I was expecting at a Todd English restaurant. The best thing to say was the plating was pretty but the food was worse than terrible. I started with jicama salad that had a mix that just did not work. The real disappointment was my mole short rib entree. The mole sauce was bland with no heat or flavor the ribs were mainly bone with a tiny small portion of meat that had not been trimmed and did not spend enough time in the sauce to pick up the small flavor that was in the sauce. The best thing was the carrot kimchee (I guess a South of the North Korea border justified side). The coffee was a little weak for a mexican restaurant and churro dessert a big flop."

  • "Superb dining experience overall. Javier started our service but said he would not be our regular waiter. However he did stay with us the rest of the night and every other member of the waitstaff attended to us as well. They really work together as a team and help out where needed, and Javier was excellent. Excellent house margarita, Margarita Jamaica just so-so. Mexican Mule drink quite good also. Azul Guacamole might be the best Guac I have ever had. Salsas were good, ask for the truly hot stuff from the kitchen. Chicken tacos were perfect. Only mar was the amount of seafood in the seafood Paella. A bit skimpy, especially in a serving size made for two to share. Taste was very good, but we added salsa for a kick. Back in 3 days!"

  • "3 GF's & I dined We requested standing water, it was room temp no ice. Ordered Red Sangria & Guac. Sangria was fine in taste but "pitcher" & glasses very small & filled w/ ice. 3 of us were done w/ our glass in 3 strong sips - disappointing. The guac very chunky & very lightly flavored. warm chips w/ it good. You pay for chips & salsa? We ordered shareable entrees: paella & lamb shank. I was surprised Paella wasn't a 20 min wait. Ours served quickly but tasted like Goya yellow rice w/ a few toss ins; 2 mussels, 2 shrimp, few cubes of chic, and few chunks fatty pork. The lamb was equally unimpressive - very tender but lacked flavor. Churros - 2 were burnt but caramel sauce was tasty. All in all we left disappointed, I'll stick w/ La Loma!"

  • "The lobster-corn guacamole was best ever (and I have had lots of bowls world wide). Mushroom tacos delightful. Churros great treat at end. Utterly on par with Oyamel. My choice would depend on where I was going before or after and whether I wanted sleek dark atmosphere (MXDC) or vivid Mexican atmosphere. Surely a matter of taste."

  • "We found this restaurant overpriced and were underwhelmed with the food. Additionally, there was a piece of plastic in some sauce with our dessert. The manager did give us a complimentary dessert but at that point didn't really care to eat any more there. Good location but there are many other options in that area. Would not recommend"
