"We found this gem of a restaurant and pthbloves our lunches. The green chili cheese enchiladas were fantastic sp ask goethite if you go for lunch as they are only on the dinner menu. My husband had the halibut tamales and said they were terrific! Best lunch we had on our twelve day vacation an we our foodies so that means something to us."

"I was very disappointed with the food. It was our second time their because the first time we went the food was great! But this time it was very substandard. I had the shrimp and crab enchiladas and they were very bland as was the $11 bowl of guacamole that came with our not so fresh chips."

"We love Mustangs & Burros. We try something different every time and have never been disappointed. This last time we had the turkey burger sliders and the carna asada tacos and thought they had great flavor. The chips and salsa are tasty too. They were fresh and have a nice seasoning on the chips. It is a fun casual restaurant located on the beautiful grounds of the Estancia Hotel."

"We really wanted to like this place. We had heard so many good things, and were excited to try Mustangs and Burros. The courtyard was beautiful, but not warm, so we ate inside. The host was able to seat us inside, so that was nice. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The service was very inattentive and slow. The food - I had filet mignon with lobster butter. I requested medium rare. It was medium at best, way overcooked, dry and tough. If there was lobster butter anywhere, I couldn't find it. My husband had the salmon, which was cooked well, but too salty. Unfortunately, our waitress didn't really come back to see how things were. Too bad - I can't recommend, although others seem to have had a different experience."

"Nice for a meal before going to nearby La Jolla Playhouse productions. The food was very flavorful and well presented, but not very hot since it is brought into the dining area from a remote kitchen. Very nice atmosphere and a beautiful patio area."

"We absolutely loved staying at the Estancia recently. ALthough our first night stay we had happy hour, dinner, and then drinks and dessert at the Restaurant. The food was good, but service was fair:( The mood was very odd, servers, hostess, bar tender, and then manager seemed to all be walking around not sure what was going on. when we were sat, there wasn't enough menus, then two people came over to our table, neither knowing what the other had done the time before. A busser asked if we wanted drinks then the server came to ask, then host was bartending. Overall we loved the ambiance and would return. But wasn't happy with the service."

"Rustic, casual atmosphere. We ordered the skirt steak and short ribs. Both were perfectly prepared, nicely presented and delicious (the meat was tender and juicy). Our server, Sarah, was attentive, pleasant and present when appropriate. One feels more like they are in AZ instead of La Jolla, nevertheless, it is a pleasant experience and we return from time to time."

"If you like to sit outside in the cold at night, far from a heater, this is the place. The squash salad was outstanding, but the risotto was bland to the point of tasteless--no flavor."
