  • "My friend and I ordered the tartar to start then kenneth mussels and the pork chop special and shared the two dishes. They absolutely complemented each other! Both the server and the chef were very understanding about my dairy issues and was able to take out the cream from the kenneth mussel dish. It was still delicious! I would have drank the broth right out of pan if it weren't an embarrassing thing to do! I would have given the service a 5, but our server forgot our brussel sprouts in the beginning. Will definitely dine here again."

  • "As someone with celiac disease who must therefore eat gluten-free, I was delighted with the assistance I received at Mussel Bar. I had included in my Open Table reservation that I would need help with gluten-free options. Without my saying anything to the hostess, the chef appeared at our table shortly after we were seated and asked who was eating gluten-free. He then proceeded to go over the menu with me, noting that many dishes were gluten-free AND they had recently started using rice flour instead of wheat flour in their mussel sauces. A few minutes later, the server verified with us that the chef had come out to talk with me. It was wonderful to have so many delicious choices and such an attentive team."

  • "I live in this area and made reservations for my sister's birthday dinner. I only see her 2-3 times a year so it was important I got the reservations right!! The seafood was the focal point (excellent mussels of course) but the other plates were equally delicious! The beer menu is amazing and great for trying something new!"

  • "We ordered several sides to go with our entrees but they did not arrive with our meal. We asked several times and were told it was coming by the time they came, we were almost done eating. Luckily our waiter understood our concern and removed them from our bill. The manager even stopped by to apologize and to reiterate that we would not be charged."

  • "The MB steak was delicious but on the small side and the accompaning salad was skimpy, it looked more like a garnish Short ribs were also very good and the chicken had great flavor with very tasty vegetables. The sweet potatoe fried were awesome but added $2 for the substitution. Deserts were awesome. There were 3 at the table and everyone raved. Cookie in the castiron skillet was unique and tasty, with the largest portion. The sampler was awesome and the chocolate mouse cake was heavenly. Our server, Steve, was excelent; personable, efficient, courteous and professional. If it hadn't been for a gift card we probably would have passed due to cost. Review menu on the website first."

  • "Way too loud. Lots of young groups who seemed to enjoy shouting at each other. Food was good but my one suggestion would be to serve the hot entrees on warm plates. My salmon was delicious but cooled off quickly because the plate was cold!"

  • "We love the Mussel Bar! It's our go to place for family reunions. Our kids insist on going there every time they come to visit and, of course, we love it too. Service is great and friendly, food is always consistently delicious. We always only get mussels, but it looked like others ordered other dishes that looked equally delicious. They have an unbelievable variety of beer, wines are also abundant. Noise level is vibrant, but don't let that deter you from going. In the summer eating outside can't be any more wonderful."

  • "For our V-day make-up, my wife and I chose Mussel bar. We got a private booth in the corner, I arranged for some flowers and candles. All in all it was a perfect setup, enough privacy with good people watching if we wanted to view out and see what folks were eating/drinking. The food was absolutely delish. The salmon was out of this world, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Mussels were a bit smaller than usual, but understandable given the season. We had them Mediterranean-style, so they were a bit spicy and tangy - absolutely delectable; The sauce was easily sopped up by the fresh baked bread. The beer on draught was Widmer Brothers Brrrrbon - perfect balance with taste, color, and effervescence. Job well done!"

  • "The mussels taste like special care was taken in preparing them. They are better than anywhere else I have had them. In addition, I don't like beer and they have several alcoholic beverages that satisfy my taste. Plus we needed somewhere that served dinner late and they provided us with that option. And the live music was an added plus."

  • "The meal began with great beer, good appetizers and a fun and engaged waiter.Then the mussels arrived and were placed on the table even though my wife was still eating her soup and had to hold it to her chest to keep it from being taken away while the servers maneuvered for space to put down the main course.We managed through our astonishment to insist on keeping the tops on the mussel pans to keep them hot while she finished, and I moved her mussel pan on the table after they left so she could put her soup down.The manager came over and apologized, but never said anything specific about why he was apologizing. The waiter didn't apologized, and in fact ignored my wife the rest of the time. An extraordinarily good evening turned extra bad."

One of us is a mussels fan and really enjoyed the Kennett Square mushroom preparation, plump and an ample amount. The other savored a nicely prepared burger w/quirky toppings: tomato jam and arugula. The beer list was very impressive, we sampled several. Only disappointment was that no points were given for an Open Table reservation."

  • "We loved the choices on the beer list (especially having previously lived in the Netherlands and been exposed to wonderful Belgian brews)! All of our party had mussels and thoroughly enjoyed them - Mediterranean was the group favorite and the Spicy Thai Basil was also delicious. The ability to choose sweet potato fries over regular fries was a nice addition. We plan to come back for more beer and mussels!!"

  • "Recently had reservation for 5 people. Food and service are great so no issues there. It's just that the tables (suited for four people only) are bolted down which means that to accommodate the extra person they simply put a chair on the end. Not a problem you would think. But it is! The mussel dishes are served in large dishes so if everyone orders mussels there is simply no room for frites, drinks etc. No option to simply slide another table across. No idea how they'd accommodate 6! There is one large table in the place that sits a large group but on the night we went it was being used by 2 people. Great place to go, provided your group is 4 or less."

  • "I love mussels and this is one of the best places to to get great mussels and outstanding beers, most of which come in their own signature glasses. I haven't had a bad meal here including non-mussel entrees, The sweet potato fries and regular fries are great. The service is always very good and the staff enjoys having fun with customers that want to have fun. The owners also own Brasserie Beck who plan on opening in the former O'Donnell's in Kentlands hopefully by April. Can't wait!"

  • "Stop at mussels and a beer. I had the Thai mussels which were very good. Their beer lost bottle and tap also excellent. The rest of our food was average at best. The most distracting element was the awful Pandora sound track. I don't care for journey, Bon Jovi, etc and when played so loud you can't here your dinner companion, it's just plan rude. Overall staff worked hard and did good job, but just stop at mussels and a beer. We were there in a busy Saturday night, so off peak nights might be better."

  • "We hit the Mussel Bar & Grill on Saturday night after the movie for a 9 pm reservation. The joint was jumping, full of folks and energy. A little loud, but a great fun feel. They seated us a little early in a booth in the bar area. We had terrific service -- prompt and responsive to questions without being at all intrusive. Started with a wonderful mushroom soup and had the mussels -- superb. Also tried a new beer on the recommendation from our waitress. Was just as advertised. My lovely bride had a wood fried pizza which was terrific as well. All the while got to watch the Caps complete a crushing of the Canadiens in Montreal. Could not have been better dinner to top off a great evening."

  • "This was my second time dining here this week with different friends. The mussels are great and the staff is fun.....notably Heavenly, Emily, and Nathan.The food was terrific.. one small exception- friend ordered a pizza that had so little lamb, that it was a bit of a joke. My friend never complains. We mentioned it to our server who gave us a perfunctory " sorry about that" ( she didn't sound like she was). To be fair, as we were leaving ( the guys had gone to get the car) the manager offered to prepare another pizza to go. Not a good solution since we would have had to wait double-parked for chef to handcraft a pizza. Back to the positives, of which there are more..good mussels, good soup, good wine list. Mostly generous portions."

If you're not big on shell fish, there are some great flat bread pizzas among other alternatives. Also, for those who avoid the bitter taste of beer, there is also a nice wine selection."

  • "We were a party of four and had The caesar/kale salad , grilled calimari appetizer, and then split two orders of mussels. We ended with the melted chocolate cake and apple cranberry crisp. Each dish was beautifully prepared and presented. There was no fuss over our desire to share dishes. Our server was most gracious without hovering and driving us crazy. It is nice to be able to chat over our meal without feeling rushed. The portions are more than generous and sharing enabled us to sample different things without being wasteful or leaving the table stuffed. Lovely evening."
