  • "Murray Circle's location is the perfectly beautiful site from which to view the city. It is becoming a well-known "secret", but that does not diminish its special qualities and its offering of well-preserved historical buildings. I delight in bringing someone who has never been there, or even better, someone who doesn't know about it. There is an energy in the dining room, though not disturbing, and a general feeling of excitement just to be there to experience a special place. The restaurant is very accommodating, the service wonderful, and there is no sense of being rushed. The menu is varied, with something for everyone. It is quite a drive for me, but worth every mile I travel."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our Fifteenth wedding anniversary and were looking for something special in Marin; I think we found it. We had a cozy , romantic table by the fireplace with soft lights and were treated to champagne cocktails on the house. Michael, our server, was attentive but not hovering and the somollier opened our wine and was helpful with comments. Then there was the dinner, which was superior. The duck entree and the pork tasting were tender and perfectly presented. We will be back to try some other treats on the menu to savor and recommend Murray Circle to our friends."

  • "This is an amazing site for a quiet luncheon outdoors on the veranda! The price fixed luncheon is delicious as are the truffle fries and the Bloody Mary's! It is equally charming inside, but the views of Fort Baker, the Golden Gate Bridge, Horseshoe Bay Marina, and the City from the veranda are spectacular. The staff is engaging, polite and charming."

  • "While staying at Cavallo Point for our anniversary, dined there at Murray Circle. A waiter appeared with a taste of sparkling wine to toast our special occasion. Upon request they made a Caesar salad (none on the menu) - salads were great. My husband had the beef tenderloin from the tasting menu - fabulous, tender and an ample portion. I had the duck breast, which came sliced and cooked perfectly, the most tender duck ever! My only minor complaint was that the sauce that decorated the plate could have had a little more flavor, but I enjoyed my meal immensely. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and Murray Circle made our special occasion a perfect celebration!"

  • "Great food, great bar. Loved the bar scene. Unfortunately on a Friday night, we were seated in a room with almost no other patrons. Felt a little lonely. Not that I want a noisy crowd, but it was VERY quiet. Bar however was terrific. Will go back and sit there."

It is California Cuisine, smaller portions and very eclectic pairings - if that is what you like - you will be very happy. Our group appreciate more simple dishes.   • "The ambience is very warm and inviting. The servers were patience, friendly and helpful. I went there for my birthday with my husband and they prepared some special treats for the celebration (chocolate truffles and the best gumdrops I have ever had). The soup of the day (parsnip) was so good, my husband wanted to lick the bowl. The entrees (beef tenderloin and black cod) were excellent too but it was quite expensive. The portions were hearty though! Overall, we had a wonderful time. Only feedback is how confusing the menu is."

  • "There were four of us dining, and three people raved about their food. Mine was very good, but I can't say it stood out that much. Frankly, I'm not sure why they got a coveted Michelin star when there are so many great restaurants in the Bay Area that have not been awarded one. My vegetarian entree was primarily roasted maitake mushrooms, which are favorites of mine. But all the other things on the plate were veggies too. It would have been so much better if there were some kind of grain with it--risotto, quinoa, something. Fortunately my first course was somewhat substantial. I liked the fried oysters in a pool of fennel fondue. The butterscotch torte dessert was to die for."

  • "We took a reservation at 8pm for four. Loved the ambiance. The food was very good to excellent and the service during the first part of the evening was excellent as well. Around 9:30 pm however various staff members began sweeping through the dining area in a frenzy to get things cleared away and prepped for the evening. Which I understand. However, on a Friday night, some of us occasionally like to dine late, and having people rushing around while you're tying to enjoy the end of a meal is annoying."

  • "We had dinner here on Friday night. It was just the right kind of busy. Not too loud so it was easy to carry on a conversation. Our waiter was very attentive. The wine list is very overwhelming so we had the wine steward help us to choose. Trying to stay in the $100 ish price range was a challenge. The wine was fine but not off the charts great. Our meals were fantastic. All very healthy with lots of fresh vegetables. The portions looked small but everyone was full when we were done. We passed on dessert but because we had a birthday at the table they brought us a little plate of samplers and everything was divine! I would definitely come here again for a special occasion."

Lovely table near the fireplace - thoughtful details like a card waiting on the table for them (wishing them a happy anniversary). Amazing, creative menu and wine list. Very attentive, informed and friendly service- it was a night to remember. Loved the pork, trout and duck dishes. Nettle flan was unique and delicious. It is a place that is worth the splurge."

  • "Murrays' Circle is like going on vacation in the course of a meal. the atmosphere of sitting on the historical deck looking out at the shimmering bay and the Golden Gate bridge are picturesque. The beauty combined with delicious oysters, mussels, truffle frits, little gems, etc. and the attentive service is delightful. From the GM to the water server, you can't help but feel that everyone is very aware and wants to insure your experience is the best it can be."

  • "We dined 3 times this weekend. Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner, Sunday brunch. All were fabulous - especially enjoyed the vegan puree of parsnips and celery root soup garnished with apple slices. Quinoa mac & goat cheese delightful. Roasted pistachios amazing. Radish "scallop" was very tasty, wish for a few more. The tableware's unique - stoneware, asymmetrical pottery - beautiful. Fabulous Brunch some organic and local selections. Presentation of plates beautiful & THE SERVICE from all 3 servers amazing. I'm not really into foo-foo food, the price is steep but probably worth it for those who want to savor delicate flavors. General manager greeted me for all 3 meals, remembered me each time. That was a really nice touch."

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday at Murray Circle and from the moment we arrived, we received VIP treatment. Everyone who greeted us said Happy Birthday to him and when we arrived at our table, which had an exquisite view of the Golden Gate Bridge, there was a lovely card for him from the restaurant. We ordered the 7-course tasting menu with wine pairings and the waitress and chef were extremely accommodating to my dietary needs. They didn't skip a beat with any request and the meal was not only delicious, but the whole night was a wonderful dining experience. We will be back!"

  • "Much heralded hype for this restaurant coupled with a wonderful stay at Cavallo Point Lodge, we were eagerly anticipating our restaurant experience at Murray Circle, to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. Suffice it to say we will stay again at Cavallo Point Lodge but plan to go to Sausalito to catch dinner. The fish was fresh and tasty, a TINY bit of cod w/ fresh, beautiful muscles---- but served in a soup bowl with tomatillo sauce and hominy. I like tomatillos, but I really did not want a soup bowl for my entree. My husband had boar ribs which were tender and flavorful, but again served in a soup bowl with beans. Service was most disappointing. The waiter spent more time at other tables but he had attentive "minions". Waste of $!!"

  • "The best part is the seating. All guests sat a good distance from one another. The wine list was comprehensive on the high $$$ end. I found it odd that living in an extraordinary wine region that there were no expanded choices in the $40-50 range. The $70 Pinot we had was a $30-40 value in quality. Now I am recognizing that the quality of wine does not follow the pricing. I had boar ribs. Although tastey, the presentation was poor and the beans desperately needed seasoning.. My husband had duck. It was fine as well. Our bill came to $214. My expectations for a large check are a lot higher than what we received. The chef needs help with creativity on the menu as well as presentation on the plate. I would never go back for these reasons."

  • "It consisted of a little lettuce with creamy dressing, potato chips and dip, (yes! Really!) meat of choice (yummy scallops) and a 1/2 c soup. I guess I thought the chips and dip would be an accessory, but they were more than 1/4 of the plate. $25 It was very disappointing, barring the scallop dish. Service was excellent and it is a divine environment."

  • "This was a special birthday celebration with 4 people. Upon arrival, the hostess desk was chaotic and not organized. The hostess was rude and cared more about interacting with the patrons she knew. Parties without reservations were seated before our party. I finally had to have my husband intervene to find out when we would be seated since we had a 11:30 am reservation, finally seated at 11:50. For the price of the brunch, the service did not match the value. Repeatedly requests to fill coffee, water, and butter were required. When one of the meals arrived, it was cold. I had heard so many great things about Murray and was truly disappointed and embarassed, starting with the hostess."

  • "We went for lunch to celebrate a birthday, with a group of seven. It was a bit disappointing. Although everything was good, nothing quite measured up. The rear dining room is rather dreary, the food, though fresh and well-prepared, is not fabulous. Clearly the thing to do here is to go on a good day, sit on the porch and have a hamburger--amazing views! Having heard so much about it, we were expecting a more vibrant experience. Nothing is bad--it's just not as good as it should be, particularly for the price."

Had to walk outside to a trailer bathroom, up metal stairs to open a heavy door. Can't imagine doing this in the dark, going there expecting a very nice dinner experience."

The meal was marvelous in every way, from the preparation and presentation, to the service, to the amazing wine list etc. The historic location is worth arriving to early to enjoy a walk, views of SF Bay and the Golden Gate.   • "What could be better than enjoying a michelin-level restaurant in a retreat away from the city, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge? And why go to Wine Country, when this place is just over the bridge? I've been coming here often throughout the past few years. Today, I had their lunch (only $25!) and it was spectacular: Scallops seared perfectly, lettuce gems, a cup of soup and their not-at-all oily chips. I'll be coming back again and again . . ."
