  • "I've been a "regular" for over 25 yrs. Murphy's is always our go-to restaurant, but I noticed a couple of changes this time. Is it me, or are the martinis smaller?? Usually, two would be a lot, but I ended up ordering three "Cat's Meow" and still wasn't fazed:-/ The quantity in each glass was well below the rim, unlike days past when the drink was up to the rim. Also, the mussels used to come with more than just a piece of toasted bread. Our server was very nice but not the usual enthusiasm we enjoy at Murphy's. We were taken care of, but we felt the table of four next to us received more attention from our server....Still, I love Murphy's and am sure we'll be back."

  • "Service was ridiculously slow. After battling for a place to park, we sat at our table for nearly 20 minutes with empty water glasses, menus in front of us, and not a single visit from a server or management. The food was good, when we finally got it, but there are many restaurants in Atlanta that serve good food - this was nothing special. Also, it was so incredibly loud in the restaurant that we had to yell to be heard over our lunch. We probably won't be going back."

  • "The menu has changed at Murphy's and not for the better. I ordered the summertime gnocchi and the sauce was way too smoky and bitter - weird - and gnocchi was wrong consistency. Salads are made ahead of time and are served way too cold - takes away from their flavor. Waiter was absolutely horrible and there are extra staff persons floating around that seem to serve little purpose and get in the way. Been coming to this restaurant since it very first opened and was a hole in the wall, and it's just lost its character. Major bummer."

  • "Murphy's has a wide variety of entree choices, all with a local, southern spin on them to elevate each dish they have on their menu. We both ordered shrimp scampi and we're not disappointed. Unlike many restaurants with small wine by the glass offerings, Murphy's had quite a few choices in both reds and whites for many food pairings. We will certainly be returning and exploring more choices from both the dinner and the dessert menus."

  • "Don't see what all the fuss is about, this restaurant is just okay. The noise level is so high you can not have a conversation with your guest, I felt like I was going crazy! The menu changes everyday, we must have hit it on a bad day. In no rush to go back."

  • "We live in the neighborhood and frequent Murphy's. This time was a major disappointment, mainly because of how bad our server was. Really ruined what we had looked forward to being a pleasant night out. Also, the mussels were bad. Every other one was not fresh and the "new" sauce was a butter over kill mess."

  • "My wife ordered the salmon, and I ordered the shrimp scampi. Both were very good. The bread was delicious. I also ordered the summer bean soup, which was superb. We ordered a bottle of Vina Alberdi, which is a very good value from Spain, as well as being very tasty. Furthermore, it was wine discount night, which we didn't know, making the wine even better. The only minor drawback, was the tiny cup of cappuccino, which I drank in 4 sips. I rated the noise level as quiet, as it was a Monday night and there weren't many patrons. I'm sure on the weekend it is much noisier like most restaurants."

  • "Having made our Thursday, July 3, evening reservation On-line where the dinner menu indicated that that evening's special was a mouthwatering duck breast, I was disappointed (and a tad miffed) that the menu still On-line and the duck breast were kaput, replaced by a different menu that even today, July 8, does not appear On-line. What we did order, the mussels and the two different wild shrimp dishes, were superb. So, I give Murphy's five stars for the food we did have, but my disappointed taste buds insist I give managment no stars and thus knock down the overall rating of our experience to three stars. We'll be back."

  • "We couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable experience, as always: our shared Cheese Starter was a hit/the crunchy-smokey grilled bread was fabulous with the cheeses; my dining companion ordered the Trout and simply 'cleaned her plate' ...and my Springer Mountain Chicken was juicy with crispy skin, good mashed potatoes and bright crisp-tender asparagus spears. Our server said he was In Training, but we had no hiccups/the service was attentive and timely. All in all, a highly enjoyable evening."

  • "We had to give Murphy's another try after our last visit. I thought the service was fair last time, it was even worse on this visit. We sat at our table for almost 15 minutes before the server came by to ask if we wanted water even though she had been to every table around us at least once during that time. Service timing was once again off, with food and drink arriving without any coordination. Nothing like getting the drink you wanted to have with your main course served more than half-way through the meal. The special that night, coq au vin, was overcooked, lacking body and flavor. Maybe we should have tried Murphy's for brunch since that it what most people talk about and not dinner which twice have been less then stellar."

  • "My brother and sister-in-law, who are both great chefs, were visiting from Northern California where I have yet to have a bad meal. The pressure was on to take them to a place that would satisfy them. Murphy's and our server Chelsea (only one month on the job) blew them away! Yes once again I can say I am a proud patron. Thanks to the Murphy's staff for making us feel welcome and we walked away knowing we will return!!! The food was fresh, well prepared (seasoned delightfully and not salty) and expertly presented. The cost was commensurate with the quality."

  • "This was our second time at Murphy`s, and both times we had bad service. It took 15 minutes to get two glasses of wine, and our server was generally unaware of what our table needed (refill empty water glasses, replace the silverwear that was taken away after the appetizer, etc...). Also, the gluten free option for the hake is not good. The fish was undercooked and the gnocchi was a glob of gooey dough. Don't offer gluten free if you can't make it work. After two disappointing meals at Murphy`s, I don't think we will be giving them a third chance."

  • "I've been going to Murphy's for 12 years. It's a great neighborhood joint a block from my house I enjoy for brunch, lunch and dinner. However, I'd never tried the Shrimp Scampi until this past weekend. It was right up there with any meal I had in Italy. To die for. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out! Also, even though the place was jamming at full capacity, the service was remained fantastic."

  • "Murphy's has excellent food, but avoid it for lunch unless you can come very early. The restaurant has no more than 8 parking places. Usually street curb parking is filled for three blocks. This is OK and, in fact, good exercise in good weather IF you are OK with your car parked blocks away on a city street curb. If not, it is certainly best to go at night when the adjacent bank or valet parking is available. The only good thing about Murphy's location is Virginia Highlands. It stops there."

  • "This last dining experience, the food just was not up to Murphy standards. Esp. Disappointing was the coconut meringue pie. I was expecting significant pie filling and meringue given Murphy's reputation for extraordinary desserts. Instead the filling was gritty, 0.5 inch high and the meringue was barely a quarter inch. And oddly the meringue was torched instead if baked. Just not good."

The hake dinner was overcooked and the presentation looked as if it had been sitting under heat lamps for several minutes. The accompanying sides did not seem to complement the fish very well either. Sadly disappointing for meal for $22.00."

  • "Approximately 25 years after our first date at Murphy's, I surprised my wife with a return visit. Much has changed, but not the delicious food or the great service. Juliette took great care of us including a few special requests to change up some side dishes. We couldn't decide between the Bonzo and Tollhouse dessert so we got both. Best decision of the night after deciding to return to Murphy's. The only reason we haven't visited in so long is we no longer live in the area. We drove an hour to get there and glad we did."

  • "Artichokes appetizers were tasty and well cooked. Gazpacho was excellent, texture was perfect, not too chunky, not too creamy. Soft shell crab in its special was good, not great,the tomato sauce overwhelmed the grits a bit. Braised short ribs were perfectly cooked, fell apart. The horseradish mashed potatoes were a highlight. We tried the trio of desserts, they were rich and wonderful."

I had the brisket which was SMOTHERED in an Extremely rich, horseradish sauce. Was not appetizing or that good. Not a place for a romantic dining experience. "

  • "Arranged a birthday lunch for friend and overall, we enjoyed the service and appetizers however my meal was less than acceptable. Normally, if I had an issue with my food I would kindly make mention to the server however, because I didn't want to change the tone, I decided to deal with it. I ordered the special salmon BLT Samdwich that our server raved about. The bread was hard and the salmon was so bland. I'm just thankful I ordered calamari as it held me over"

  • "This was my second visit to Murphy's. The menu is fun, food good and great wine list. However, the room we were seated in was so loud and deafening, we asked to be moved. We split the flat iron steak which is divine, but the portion is way too small for splitting. The pepperoni flatbread is consistently excellent and the meatball appetizer was good although one piece so chewy, I had to discard it. The artichoke app is good but needs more of the artichoke heart and less outer leaves. The staff is very accommodating and professional and we'll definitely be back! And the atmosphere is fun if you're seated in the right spot."
