Diner Reviews
  • "We had a reservation for a large party, including my 95 year old grandmother. All other issues aside, when our entrees came out, my grandmother's dish was not among them. We had to ask the waiter where her dish was, and we got a very hand-wavy "the kitchen is backed up" excuse before he disappeared. 15 minutes later, her dish had not arrived. We finally managed to get a hold of our waiter who said something like, "I'm sure it'll be out in a couple of minutes". When 9 out of 10 dishes show up to a table at a restaurant, I believe it's incumbent upon the waiter to a) immediately apologize and tell the table you're working on it and b) actually do something about it, like go into the kitchen. Our waiter did neither."

  • "WE DINE AT MUMBLES EACH TIME WE COME INTO THE CITY. WITH ALL THE RESTAURANTS TO CHOOSE FROM IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, AND WE HAVE TRIED A FEW, WE HAVE FOUND MUMBLES TO BE THE MOST HOSPITABLE, FRIENDLY AND TO HAVE DELICIOUS FOOD CHOICES AND REASONABLY PRICED."

  • "This place is great for brunch, lunch and dinner. The menu has choices for everyone's tastes. Especially good are tasty lamb burger and mezze plate. Sweet service, always a smile greets you. Very kid-friendly. The outdoor seating is ample, on a leafy corner of Third Ave and 17th Street. Love it."

  • "We know it's great for outdoors and vibrant, but we like it for the off-hours when it's romantic & quieter for just the two of us or small gatherings with family & friends, when we can hear each other while having a great meal. We've enjoyed all the specials (beef, seafood, foul) and most menu options on Birthdays, Anniversaries, New Year's Eves, Thanksgivings and just dropping in to relax. And the best is in addition to the great food, the management and wait staff always treat you like family."

  • "My friends and I returned for Sunday brunch a second time this year (in fact, they never stopped talking about the first visit!) The menu is varied enough to allow many food choices. I tried the mac and cheese with double smoked bacon. It was outstanding. Mumbles' staff is friendly, without being intrusive and the service is quite good. The restaurant is comfortable and attractive. Even the bathrooms are well planned -- and clean. Once again, we all enjoyed the chance to share a good brunch and talk. (No complaints.) We'll be back."

  • "THE HAPPY HOUR AT THE BAR. THE HOUSE WINE IS NASTY. WHY CAN YOU NOT OFFER A DECENT WINE. I COULD NOT FINISH MY GLASS. ALSO WE HAD BURGERS THEY USE TO BE GREAT TASTING I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS TIME. DIFFERENT COOK?"

  • "Although it has been here a long time...Mumbles menu has been greatly improved in its variety! I still go for their lobster special dinner on Mondays...still a good value and fresh! They have different special 'deals' each day--worth stopping by. Only complaint is the appetizers have gone WAY UP in price....couldn't find one below $10. While I was there, they effortlessly served a large group---maybe 30 folks! Our waitress was wonderful... friendly and very attentive too!"

  • "Only complaints: waitress could have come to table more often - we would have ordered more drinks; the margarita was pretty bad"

  • "This was my second time here. Had brunch which was very good but was disappointed this time. It may have been that two of us picked an entree we did not like. The zucchini spaghetti was the winner! Crab cake was something I could have purchased in the store and heated myself. "

  • "Went here because of the reviews and needed an american bistro for a mixed group. the appetizers were decent enough, but all 4 entrees were inedible. Both overcooked and undercooked pastas, a terrible veggie burger and a flavorless steak. Not at all impressed. will not return. "

  • "We were pleasantly surprised at interesting menu and successful preparation of our meals. Willingness to seat 12 people was offset by slightly distracted waitress tho she did turn down the music no one could hear anyway at our end of the place, except for the annoying thumping bass."

  • "We love New York, and we especially love exploring the neighborhoods of New York. The lower Eastside, we have found to be friendly, vibrant and color full. Mumbles is the place to go if you want to experience the mood of this neighborhood, a casual comfortable atmosphere, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious, with plenty of originality."

  • "It was a very satisfying dining experience. The choices were ample, the food was very good, the wine was fine, and reasonably priced, and the service was attentive, without being overbearing. We really enjoyed ourselves,"

  • "Saw this restaurant on the news and put it on my "should check it out list". Was thrilled with the service, drinks and food. Everyone (party of 4) felt the same. We weren't rushed, had plenty of room and could her ourselves talk. Had the zucchini spaghetti OMG unbelievable. Go you will not be disappointed!!!"

  • "It looks like a typical cozy bar, but go for the food. They have an interesting menu, and everything we had was carefully prepared from quality ingredients. The only disappointment was pumpkin pie for dessert: a delicious flavor, but thin and served refrigerator-cold (they warmed it for us). The staff is efficient and extremely accommodating."

  • "We brought out-of-town relatives to Mumbles over the Christmas holiday and they loved it! It featured a festive ambience, great food, and was quintessential NYC away from the madness of downtown."

  • "The Food was very delicious. We truly enjoy everything we ordered. Our waiter was so prompt in everything we needed especially when you have kids with you. The staff was very pleasant and cheery!! Would defiantly come back!"

  • "This a great little neighborhood restaurant and bar! The food and service are superb, and the prices are extremely reasonable. The Veggie Burger is the best I've ever had! I've eaten at the bar and at a table with a large group. In both situations, the service was excellent. They have a nice selection of craft beer and great happy hour specials on wine, beer, and cocktails. It's a cozy little place to relax and enjoy a great meal served with a smile!"

  • "There is a new chef as of a week ago and a new menu as of May 1st 2013- very disappointing- one fish entree- and a total of 5 entrees - mostly burgers, a few salads and mostly burgers which also now come with nothing and the price was increased- overall there is nothing for me to eat here any more,. The entire dining room was fussing over the new menu and everyone agreed- bring back the old menu or at least some of them-. Dave- why did you do this? What are you thinking? Whatever ever happened to eating healthy and a yummy protein and veggie for dinner? great for a late night stop in - not for the neighborhood locals anymore..I wish he would have kept his great old menu and just given us all a price increase. Very disappointing! VERY!"

  • "The quality of the food seems inconsistent from week to week. They completely changed the menu and raised the prix fix special by $3. A week earlier I had a lovely meal with friends. This last time the fresh pasta was good but the sauce and meatballs were not as good. Also I had to send back the seafood ravioli since it was loaded with pepper. They graciously prepared another one for me from scratch which was not spicy."

  • "My friends and I had a nice time at the restaurant. We enjoyed the food and the service. We had the pasta special which was a good value. The pasta choices were tasty. The calamari appetizer was light, tasty and not greasy. The bread and salad was good. The brownie was nice and warm, not too sweet and favored with cocoa which is how my friends and I liked it."

  • "Food was great! We had crab cakes, the sirloin entree and the rack of lamb entree. The only problem was how slow the service was. Staff was polite but unable to complete tasks in a timely fashion ."

  • "This place stays in business because of regulars that have gone there forever. I counted only 4 other people under age 65. The garden salad was fresh, the Sesame Crusted Tuna was cooked properly but the Wasabi Soy sauce was strange. My Japanese friend was taken aback when they brought it to the table. The Wasabi was in the Soy sauce and neither were very good. The Crab Cakes were very good and the Sirloin was good. My steak came with hand cut potatoes that ranged from being overcooked to not cooked enough. Service was mediocre. It took 10 mins after being seated for a waitress (longer for the basket of bread), she never introduced herself and didn't ask if we had any questions. Didn't like the 18% tip being included in the bill."

  • "Delicious! Although the crowd is a bit aged, but that's not a bad thing, just something we weren't expecting. Great crab cakes!! We used a deal that gave us ~$70 worth of food for $32, which meant that we had a three-course meal, and the staff were very patient with us and brought everything out/cleaned up in a reasonably timely manner."

  • "I love flavor and service and they were great at both. The prices were great and you get a discount for paying cash. I had risotto and it was delicious. I also left a bag there and they found it and saved it for me. I'll be back soon cause they have creme brulee and I was to full. The great thing is that the chef knew it wouldn't travel well. So I'll be back and I bought a group on for it."

  • "DELICIOUS FOOD! I was pleasantly surprised by how good the grilled salmon was. Pot sticker appetizers were delicious and the bourbon-pecan tart was also good. Waitress was very sweet and accommodating. Ambiance is laid-back - not fancy at all. Recommended if you're looking for delicious food and a relaxing night."

  • "The food is really good and the prices are very affordable- they just need to step up to the service ratings. We are a regular here and leave 20+ tip but the service is always an issue. You have to ask for water- you have to ask for additional glass of wine- you even have to remind them that you do not have silverware AFTER your food arrives and if you want more bread........you will be waiting. But nice people here and the food is more than decent."

  • "Under rated sleeper that consistently prepares French classics such as duck and lamb chops on a "working man's budget" Ambiance was lively with background lounge music which did not overpower our conversation. Crème brulee was excellent; fresh & not overly chilled the texture and consistency was perfect (two can share)."

  • "This was the worst new menu offering I've seen in a long time. The dining room used to be packed now because of the change of menu, there is really nothing worth going back for. Service is spotty and the food left a lot to be desired. Sorry Mumbles, you killed a good thing."

  • "Used to LOVE Mumbles but the quality has gone wayyyy down. It used to be the nicest of the three sister restaurants but Benjamin and East of Eight are better. Very disappointing."

  • "This is a reasonably priced restaurant with a charming ambience and accessible menu. The fare is bistro-like, with tasty sauces and light spices, a variety of meat/pultry/fish, and perfect portion sizes. We went with a group of four and enjoyed the service, the food, and the ability to talk easily."
