A word from Mulvaney's B&L
As an American restaurant, we focus on seasonal local products from our friends the farmers. Likewise, our modestly priced wine list emphasizes producers from the West. Our service has been recognized as the best in Sacramento. When asked to sum up the ever changing menu at the B&L, Patrick says "whatever comes in the front door goes on your plate."Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Had a group so reserved the private back room which was perfect for the occasion. Service was very good especially given we were separate from the rest of the restaurant. Will continue to come back for special occasions."

  • "Wonderful. We were visitors to Sacramento and were told by a very good source that this was the best to be had in town. I don't know about that but it was well worth the visit and the best we experienced while there. The menu is very creative. We stated with a special appetizer of a 3 chop rack of lamb accompanied by a chili cheese dip and grilled bread.- Wow. Entrees: Toads on Toast and a Tenderloin/ Short Rib were done to perfection. This restaurant is a little hard to fine and the signage is poor when looking while driving. However, the effort is well worth it. The restaurant is small and the seating is cozy but comfortable and diners can watch much of the prep while enjoying a beverage or between courses."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday, which I noted on my Open Table reservation. Mulvaney's went out of their way to make the evning special with personalized menus, and an incredible special birthday dessert. We all four ordered different appetizers and entrees and we were all impressed and delighted with our delicious food selections. Thumbs up!"

  • "The first time we went to Mulvaney's (a few years ago) was a really great experience. This time was very very different. It was my birthday and we were looking forward to it...The place was crowded, surprising for a rainy Tuesday night. The noise level was so high that my husband and I could not hear each other across the table. The food was OK but nothing to write home about. I had the halibut ($30) and it was a very small piece of fish, moist but quite uninteresting for flavors. Overall we spent $150 (+ tip) for 2 main courses, one starter, one dessert and one bottle of wine ($53). I wish I could have kept the great memory of this restaurant...now I cannot recommend it."

  • "Food was just wonderful, but it was so loud that it was impossible to have any sort of normal conversation. The noise affected our appreciation of the really fine meal."

  • "The "signature dish" of filet was terrible, and the chef came over and apologized. Yes, it happens, but it's the third time we've given it a shot and we've just not been overwhelmed any of the times. Lovely space though and we want to support local restaurants."

  • "My husband and I luckily found Mulvaney's B&L last fall when visiting Sacramento on our northern California trip. Now, we wouldn't think of going to Sacto without having dinner there. One of our best dinner's ever and Dan, the bartender, is fabulous, as well. Can't say enough about the restaurant. The mayor was having dinner there the other night at the same time we were there. That's got to add to the credibility. Simply, yummy and absolutely a joy! Keep it going, everyone!"

  • "Although there was a wine pairing dinner in the large room next Door and the place was packed , the service was great and the food fantastic. The fava bean tortellini tasted and smelled like springtime on a plate. My duck breast was cooked perfectly and the grilled asparagus was tender and crunchy At the same time. The Barolo bottle of wine was perfectly matched. Sarah j our server was wonderful and left is alone to chat the night away until we closed down the place. We love Chef Patrick!"

  • "We've had this place on our bucket list for quite a while due to the outstanding reviews in the press and from friends. Mulvaney's did not disappoint. The food was perfectly prepared. The duck breast and ono were cooked to perfection with complimentary sides. The dining room was a bit noisy and not conducive for a quiet conversation but the charm of the building was a neat surprise. Highly recommended for the food. Though the noise level is a bit high this should not keep you from enjoying a great meal here."

  • "We decided to try Mulvaney for my wife's birthday dinner. They had a special menu with Happy Birthday on it that my wife kept. She had the Sea Bass which was perfect. I had the lamb shoulder which was perfect. Chuck T. was our server and did a great job."

  • "Set in an old Fire house, it is just the right size to be energetic and lively without being overwhelming. Very good food and ambiance. Would recommend for important business lunches or dinner for special occasions. Probably great for a night cap as well. Will go again."

  • "This is now my favorite restaurant. I came here once before and had almost the exact same awesome experience. The food (both meat and veg) taste incredible. Patrick Mulvaney deserves the reputation he has built in SAC. The rib-eye was so good, it will keep me up thinking about it."

  • "Previous dining experiences at Mulvaney's have been better. Took friends as a gift to them and hoped it would be a WOW experience, rather than just pretty good. Should be WOW when dropping $425 on a dinner for 4. Just sayin'..."

  • "the service was excellent, the environment unique, Im not impressed by your food, and I felt I could have paid less for what was served. The smoked salmon appetizer was delicious. The butter lettuce and beet salad was terribly salty. the beets were wonderful. The main course of seated ahi, was not seared, but cooked mostly through, and dry. I dont remember if there was supposed to be a sauce, but I tasted no ginger. And the middle was warm and bland. The pork belly took away from the flavor, and soaked the vegetables underneath the ahi. Soggy. The flavors just didn't quite match. The portobello mushrooms were good. The strawberry cocktail was fresh but not exciting."

  • "Food was outstanding. I had the pork chop and my wife had the papardelle pasta. We also shared the smoked salmon and the asparagus soup. Everything tasted excellent and the service was top notch. Can't wait to go back some day."

  • "Mulvaney's is an absolute must for my husband and I anytime we come to Sac. This was a truly special dining experience for us. We had the crispy sweetbread, the pork belly and octopus, the toast and "free" foie gras, the ribeye, the squab, and the butterscotch pudding. Everything blew our minds. Excellently prepared and served. 5 star dining."

  • "As always my fiancée and I were completely satisfied with our meal. The service here is amazingly good. The only negative I could think of is sometimes items on the menu don't really speak to me. Once I find something the food is cook well and very delicious."

  • "Helped a friend celebrate her birthday and we decided to check out Mulvaney's since it had been at least 5 years since we last dined there. It was wonderful--creative food, wonderful presentation, fabulous wine list and an extremely professional server. All in all, a wonderful evening without any suggestions for changes or improvements."

  • "My GF and I dined here and enjoyed it. Great service and atmosphere. Loved the wine, appetizers, and small plates. Our waitress claimed they were known for their pork, unfortunately my chop was very very dry. Was kind of disappointed - beautiful display and sides were tasty, but the pork was too tough. Next, I will try something else on the menu"

  • "We were bringing gourmet cooking friends and wanted to show them a Farm to Fork restaurant in Sacramento. We were all very happy with our meals and the service--each excellent. The pork chop dinner was sensational, and the lamb was very good! The dishes all had special sauces and spices that enhanced each part of the dish. Even the butter had special salts on it. The praise from one of our gourmet cooking friends: I don't like it when I go out and know I could prepare any part of the meal served and do it better. She then added that was not the case at Mulvaney's B & L! Thank you for living up to your reputation. We'll be back."

  • "Outstanding service for my husband's 50th birthday dinner - thank you! The staff even had "Happy Birthday" printed at the top of special menus made for our table. The food was great and it was an added bonus to converse with Patrick Mulvaney during the meal."

  • "Mulvaney's is consistently outstanding. Never disappointed! Food is wonderful and unique. Service is great. Someone at our table ordered an after dinner drink. Mulvaney's was low on supply so they ran to another restaurant to get the beverage. That is top rate service. Excellent! I had been trying to get these people to Mulvaney's for years. They were not disappointed."

  • "My recent dinner at Mulvaney's B&L was fabulous. I selected Mulvaneys for dinner with a friend I have not seen in almost 40 years. I must admit that I was concerned that the dinner would be rushed with a priority to "turn" the table. When I shared the occasion of our dinner we were seated at a table with more privacy, given all the time we needed to catch up, and served food that was absolutely delicious. Our server was friendly, informative, and attentive. The entire evening at Mulvaneys was PERFECT. Thank you Mulvaneys B&L. I will most definitely be back again and again."

  • "Took my husband for dinner for his birthday. Great service. Our menus read "happy birthday Joe" which was really thoughtful. We had appetizers which were excellent and my husband loved the prime rib. I had duck which was really good. The portions were big do you are getting value for your money. We had the homemade ice cream for desert which was very delicious. Would definitely go back there!"

  • "I dont travel to Sacramento often. I found this gem online and after reading the reviews I decided I would take a chance for my girlfriend's birthday dinner. I'm glad I made this decision. Everything about this place is top notch. I loved the experience from being in an old fire house to my quail and Sparerib dinner to my potato soup to the sour ales. The wait staff was also very friendly and attentive. I never felt I had to wait nor was I being rushed. Big stamp of approval"
