  • " Had a great dinner at Mulvaney`s. This is a Top Notch restaurant. We walked in to see the Mayor having dinner with Owner. We have wanted to come here for a while, but due to popularity and James Beard dinner fame, you need weekend reservations a week in advance. Very nice and casual but professional service. We had a Chef and Culinary Institute Of America of New York grad with us, and this dinner did not disappoint. Patrick came to our table and talked for 10 minutes with our guest. Nice Touch."

  • "I met a friend for dinner at Mulvaney's and was somewhat disappointed with our experience. The food was exceptional and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant but the service was horrendously slow. It took us almost an hour to even order an appetizer. I actually liked our waitress and she apologized many times, but the service remained slow throughout the evening. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dining and do not like to be rushed, but 3.5 hours for dinner on a Thursday night (for a party of 2) just isn't acceptable. We were offered free dessert which was appreciated, but I expected overall better service from a restaurant like Mulvaney's."

  • "Mulvaney's ranks among the few top tier Sacto restaurants, if not the top. Patrick Mulvaney is a chef of incredible talent. Our favorite at this time of year is his incredible tomato/mozzarella plate - "Rey Yeung's Farm Heirloom Tomatoes & Hand Pulled Mozzarella" with a balsamic reduction, basil & olive oil. Sounds so simple, but we are die-hard tomato fans and Mulvaney's always has the best! The hand-pulled mozzarella is prepared in house and is out of this world. This plate is absolutely the best in Nor Cal if not the entire tomato state. We then shared the Seared Wild King Salmon with Saffron Cous Cous, Soil Born Cucumber & Pesto. (Soil Born is the farm). Excellent! Cooked just right. Great flavors, beautifully presented. You Must Go!"

  • "This was my first time dining at Mulvaney's B&L. I asked for three courses, "Chef's Choice" with wine pairings. The first was an heirloom tomato salad with pulled Mozzarella. The cheese was incredibly delicious and buttery, melding nicely with the EVOO and aged Balsamic. It was perfectly paired with a Maldonado Chardonnay. The second course was a special request "toast points" served with a sauterne. It was sublime! The star of the show was a duck breast served over Bloomfield spinach and oven baked potatoes, next to a Sesame Red Pepper Coulis. It was delicious and tender, yet the heat from the Coulis added an Asian spice flair. The pairing with a Pinot from Santa Lucia Highlands was delightful. Peach Cobbler sealed the deal!"

The vegetables were local and absolutely delicious. Our water and bread were constantly refilled, our needs were met and we did not have to ask for anything."

  • "We always enjoy this wonderful restaurant. The food is reliably delicious and beautifully presented. We had lunch on their patio, which has a lot of lovely shade and was very comfortable on a hot day. Our waitress was thoughtful and attentive, but also serving a table of about twenty people, so that slowed the service a bit. We noticed that there was a faint garbage smell on the patio near an open door by their trash area, and asked to be moved. Haven't had that problem before and hope we won't again."

  • "It was our Anniversary and one of my friends recommended this place. We got there and was seated right away. I had made reservations. They change their menu daily so on the printed menu was Happy Anniversary which my wife noticed right away. It was a very nice touch. The waiter recommended some items and we picked some of them. The food was so fabulous. We had the heirloom tomatoes & Mozzarella which was amazing. My wife had the rib eye which was smoked and had great flavor. I had the duck, oh so good. Service was great and we would recommend this place to anyone....."

  • "The food and service were exquisite. It had a high-class but homey feel. The staff was incredible and very friendly and casual feeling, yet very professional. The food was incredible. I ordered a 28 day aged rib eye, cooked well done. THe steak was so tender and juicy, my medium-rare loving girlfriend loved it, and she avoids well done. The ice cream at the end felt like whipped cream and ice cream had a baby. Best food ever."

  • "Mulvaney's food and service were amazing. I've lived in Sac my whole life, and never stopped in to Mulvaney's until this weekend with my boyfriend. A little pricey, but totally worth it. We ordered the cheese assortment, the raviolis, the rib-eye and they were all way better than I could ever put into words. "Absolutely delicious" is all I can say, but that's as you would expect from a fine-dining, farm-to-fork restaurant. The wait staff was nothing but friendly and extremely attentive to our every need.We will definitely be back for our next occasion. :)"

  • "What a fun place with fun and attentive wait staff, but I wanted the food to be better. The cheese board was delicious if a bit skimpy, the Rio salad was a clump of field greens with very little dressing and a crostini on top, edible but not very enjoyable, the pork chop was huge, cooked to perfection, but rather tasteless, despite a mildly minty marinade of some sort. The panzanella was decent, but it's really not much of a dish to start with, sort of croutons soaked with gazpacho. My dinner guest had the short ribs and octopus, the short ribs were apparently fantastic, but the octopus was anything but, he didn't finish but a couple of bites."

  • "Enjoyed the ambience, the bussing staff was very efficient and attentive. Hostess was a little uptight and waitress was slow, waited 20 minutes before our order was taken, however, she was very courteous and balanced us we'll with her other patrons. The food was ok, the pork chop was overwhelmingly thick, polenta bland and juices had little flavor. The rib eye was delicious, however the accompaniments were flavorless. Even the split pea soup was slightly bland, had it not been for the drizzle, it's desirability would have been lacking. I really wanted to like this restaurant but in the end was disappointed. My husband and I agreed that a home cooked meal would have been better."

  • "I've dined at Mulvaney's B&L four times in the past, and had knock-out experiences. This last experience left me sorely disappointed. Our salads came before the bread. We ordered wine & that took 25 minutes to arrive. I’m vegetarian, so I went with the chef’s creation. This was disappointing too since the plate consisted of asparagus, chard, & mushroom. A starch such as pasta or rice would have really helped create a more flattering appearance on the plate and experience on the pallet. The waitress had a large table she was waiting on, but I really was disappointed with the overall experience. A restaurant like this sets your expectations high (you will pay over $100 for dinner for 2, plus tip). The service & food totally missed the mark. "

  • "Last year I and my guests had one of the best meals we had ever experienced. I brought my girl friend there for her birthday and had a opposite experience. The assorted cheese platter was not as good as last time, my crispy sweetbreads were mushy. Her steak, although well-seasoned had a good amount of grizzle, my duck breast had a lack-luster sauce. The hazelnut crust on her dessert was slightly burnt. She had stomach upset for most of the following day. I understand that the owners were catering a large affair in Davis that day. If that was the case, the back-up chef and crew need more training. We have had better meals at Applebee's!"

The food was exceptional and presented in a very beautiful manner. The flavors and freshness of the ingredients was evident and the quality of the dishes was outstanding.   • "I really loved this place and the only reason it's not getting a perfect 5 stars for everything is the hostess was a little rude and seemed so put off that we recommended a different table when there was only 2 other people in the whole restaurant. The food here was absolutely exquisite. Our waitress was amazing and had great cocktail, appetizer AND wine recommendations. The smoked salmon appetizer and the toasted bread with mushrooms and parmesan cheese were PERFECT starters for our meal. Our table of four had the scallops, lamb and 2 pork chops and everyone was extremely satisfied with their meals. "

  • " I was lucky enough to get a reservation over Memorial Day Weekend. 20 minutes after I made the reservation on Open Table, I got a call from the restaurant letting me know that we would be seated on the patio and would that be o.k? That was the beginning of the great service and friendly attitude we experienced the whole night. Our server, Jana, was a joy. She was very knowledgeable, not pushy, great listener..She was so excited about the food that she wanted to sit down and eat with us! She thought of everything...even gave us a taste of the pea soup because I had asked whether or not I should have that or the beet/avocado salad. The rest of the meal was timed perfectly. We are coming back every day..kidding...but as soon as we can. "

  • "We went to Mulvaney's to celebrate my husband's birthday, and they were outstanding! Our server, Chris, was awesome! Attentive, informative, we definitely will be back. It is one of our new favorites. The menu was personalized for his birthday, and his dessert plate said Happy Birthday around the rim. The food was wonderful, but the people and the service made the night extra special."
