The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, and our server was great. I had their tortellini which tasted good and was nicely served, but the portion was ridiculously small. I have a son who is a professional chef in fine dining places, and even HE thinks it has gone too far. My food was served on a bowl-style plate that was over 12" diameter, and there was a very small pile of pasta in the very centre. It can't be cost- pasta (even meat-filled) is not a major expense for the restaurant, so my only possible conclusion is that they are trying to emulate the tv program-featured status spots where they "present" tiny little portions artistically arranged in the centre of large plates, and any diner there would be too embarrassed to question the celebrity chef, for fear of announcing to the world that he (the diner) is less than worldly and sophisticated. Well, this is Saint Paul Minnesota, and though I appreciate- and know something about- artistic presentation, I believe even fine dining should be at least as concerned with satisfying the appetite as well as the eye. We like the food and atmosphere there, but might hesitate to go again when we are hungry and want a satisfying meal.

We had a party of four - hadn't been to Muffuletta in years so I was anxious to try it again. We had a seafood stew which was delicious. I ordered the gnocchi which was very good. My husband ordered the short ribs which came out cold. The server brought them back and did apologize, but unfortunately the replacement ribs, which were warmer, were quite tasteless and fatty. For $26, it was a lot of $$ for a meal that just wasn't good at all. my friends ordered the risotto which was good, not great but good. The meal definitely had hits and misses.

Food was mediocre, but service was excellent. I had the autumn hash and added sausage. It had very few potatoes and pieces of squash...and was mostly sausage cubes. It lacked flavor and was mosltly just salty. Nothing to rave about. The setting is cute and the wine was generously poured. Probably won't be back given the sub par food at a premium price.

Generally good brunch choice but portion sizes are inconsistent. One of our portions was massive and the other entree was basically a small appetizer, one left full with food on the plate the other hungry. This is the third time I've been here and its something I've noticed, enough that I'd be careful of who I'd recommend to Muffuletta. Wait staff this time and for prior visits has always been top notch!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Muffuletta. It was my 3rd time dining there, and all 3 have been home runs. Everything we had (calamari, gnocchi, steak, dessert) was awesome. Delicious, creative, quality food, but not pretentious. The people were great - they balanced being helpful and letting my wife and I enjoy quality time together. My 2nd favorite restaurant in St. Paul (behind La Grolla)

Lunch for two, for my mother's 88th birthday on November 1 at 11:00 a.m. We were seated promptly and our server took our beverage order and explained the brunch menu since it was different from the weekday menu I was familiar with. Since the "mini" Muffuletta was not on the brunch menu, we split the large sandwich and each had a cup of the delicious beer cheese soup. A complimentary birthday tart was presented to Mother for dessert! The food was excellent. My only criticism is of the beverage service during the meal. Promised refills did not come until our food was nearly gone. The server was busy with other tables and we waited and waited for our refills. Water was refilled by another staff person.

Went to the M twice in one weekend. The first time I ordered the argula, balsamic vinagarette, goat cheese flatbread. It was a hot mess. Too much balsamic....flavors not great. My favorite sweet potatoe fries were over done. Sigh. On the next day, I ordered the soup of the day which was a squash / fennel type soup and it was wonderful. I also had the beet salad and so did my companion. We both loved it! Looking forward to going again!

We took some friends here for the first time and they were excited about the experience. They weren't disappointed. The menu is simple, but has some excellent choices, some standard favorites and some new. My wife had the vegetarian dish which was new and very good. Our friend had the special pulled pork which was delicious. Her husband and I both had the Muffuletta sandwich which is always an excellent choice. He chose it because he likes meat and he wasn't disappointed. Chef Matt and his crew again outdid themselves with a wonderful meal. We were there to enjoy our time with our friends and our server was attentive without being pushy and allowed us to have time for conversation. As always, the evening was pleasant and delightful.

We enjoy dining at Muffuletta as it is a cozy setting and always bustling. The menu special included beef hash and we both enjoyed it. Good flavor, a combination of vegetables and beef and tasty broth, we requested spoons to scoop up the last drops. We enjoyed a nice Spanish Rose wine and the house Chardonnay was also excellent. A flavorful coffee cake was served to begin the meal. The service and the staff were all accommodating and pleasant.

We tried a new appetizer which would have been fine but the duck confit was dry or old. I had my heart set on the duck entree and the waitress reassured me that it would be good- nothing like the appetizer. That was true because it was raw!!!! I realize duck is not cooked well done but I was mortified. I have eaten duck at other restaurants and cooked it at home so I am not new to duck. Also, the skin should have been crispy but instead was soggy. The dish as a whole was bland and not seasoned well. How on earth the chef allowed raw duck to come out of his kitchen, I will never understand. My friend had a burger and sweet potato fries. She said the burger was fine but the fries were soggy. Will not return.

I don't live in St. Paul anymore, but if I did I would eat at Muffuletta often. I ate here on a recent visit, and had the three course Sunday Supper, which is a bargain at $25. The dishes were quite innovative, as well as delicious. I was also impressed with the extensive wine list. The service was attentive and the atmosphere very comfortable. I know Muffuletta has been around for awhile, but it always seem to stay contemporary and never feel tired. I would definitely recommend Muffuletta for a nice meal.

We visited for a later-eve weeknight dinner. The service staff was attentive, helped provide menu guidance, and checked in frequently. One nice surprise of the evening was the beet salad: A few different colors of beets were pickled, julienne cut into "straw", and placed atop a bed of greens, with a small dollop of a soft tangy cheese on top. The other food was good, but seemed overpriced for the quality. The alfredo sauce for the tortellini had a gumminess that I associate with purveyor food, and the pasta itself did not seem to be fresh, more like dry/frozen pasta overly boiled. I would go back again if I researched reviews of dishes ahead-of-time to eliminate some of the hit-and-miss. Kudos for locally-sourcing ingredients.

I appreciated the creativity of my dish. I had the gnocchi and it was served with a grilled corn cream sauce with green tomatoes. It was delicious and seasonal. I love that. My husband's dish was less impressive as he had the salmon and it just didn't taste fresh to me. I felt it was a bit overpriced and left feeling like I could have cooked an equivalent meal at home and not paid the up charges for wine. I liked the patio seating and the service was outstanding but I have other places in the Twin Cities I'd pay this price for more willingly.

it's one of my favorite spots in the Cities. A bit tough to get a quick work-day lunch in as they're usually very busy - as was the case this time. We were glad for a spot on the patio (albeit less than 1/2 arm's length away from the "men's business meeting" next to us . . . which included a couple of cell phone conversations. No cell phones while driving or in a restaurant!!) Waitress was busy, but did a great job! Sandwich was very good (chicken salad..... I usually can't get past the Asian burger which is WONDERFUL). Friend's walleye omelet seemed to have a good bit of walleye missing, according to her - and she's pretty easy to please. It's a great restaurant whether dining inside or out! :-)

The food we ate was indifferently prepared and lacked character. The portion sizes were random and small. Three of us ordered the same dish and had wildly different portion sizes with two orders being extremely small. The gnocchii was not fresh, was over cooked, and was surrounded by tasteless vegetables. The salads had limited ingredients and were not fresh. We did not even bother to finish the salads. For the price the food was poor.

Muffuletta's is in my neighborhood and I always take family there when they are visiting. Everytime we have a wonderful experience. The menu has something for everyone and the food is well prepared and very good. They have a nice wine and beer list including some very good and affordable selections. The outdoor patio is wonderful on a warm summer night but my favorite spot is inside by the window on a snowy day - so comfortable and welcoming! Service is always great!
