Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant has a back outdoor area and a front all glass front section with a bar and a nice view of the street. The scene was relatively quiet for a Saturday. Food was interesting and good. The menu is small but that is usually a sign of concentration. The wine list was too short."

  • "Amazing food, great service and wonderful cocktails with interesting homemade ice cubes! I will be back and I will bring a few friends!"

  • "On previous occasions at the Muddy Leek I've been with girlfriends. This time I was with my husband and another couple and I'm happy to say that once again our group had a lovely evening. We sat outside on the patio, it was quieter than inside and warm and cozy - even though it was a cool evening. As always the service was fantastic, the menu had us all oohing and ahhing over what we wanted so I suggested ordering "family style" - trying a bit of everything. The guys didn't like the idea of sharing (why is that?) - but grudgingly agreed. Thankfully as each dish appeared and was enthusiastically devoured I knew that my recommendations for the evening had gone down well. Hats off to the chef."

  • "We've been a few times to Muddy Leek. The concept is great: Farm, local based food cooked at a high level. Really nice beverage service: interesting wines and trendy but tasty cocktails (Full Bar.) Generally tasty and imaginative food. But this time the food really fell down. Piazetta with Port Salut and Peas? Maybe it's our frequent visits to Mozza or Olio, but this dish was not fit for restaurant consumption. It reminded us of Virgin Air Upper Class food. Edible but that's about it. Mushroom Risotto? Not sure what the rice used was, but it was as far from al dente as could be and again was about the same quality as decent airplane food. Coffee? Burnt. Sent back. Taken off the bill, so points for that."

  • "Excellent! Waiter attentive and professional and food was inventive and very fresh. Definitely a keeper."

  • "My wife was a little skeptical when I told her...organic...farm to table but she was totally thrilled with the food and cocktails and so was I. They brought her a birthday dessert - lemon crepe with blood oranges and she wolfed it down and she is not a big dessert eater...said it was the best dessert she had eaten....thanks Muddy Leek for making my wife's birthday lunch memorable."

  • "We love their food and style... combination of key flavors is key and they do it very well. This time however, the chicken pot pie was a bit bland... perhaps my expectation of flavor was higher. We will return."

  • "The hostess could have been friendlier and the food, although delicious, took a long time to arrive."

  • "Great little out of the way place to skip traffic and have a memorable evening. Server was quietly enthusiastic and meal was first rate. I did not even miss meat (how about that!). Would recommend to anyone who thinks they're hip or aspires to be so"

  • "Everything was great, but we'd ordered too much food so we asked to take home the leftovers. Our server took 2 plates, and another staff member took the third. Our server came over in a couple minutes and said that the other staff member had trashed that last plate, so would we mind waiting a bit, and the kitchen will replace that last plate with a fresh order. I won't expect that kind of service the next time, but we definitely are going back."

  • "Wonderful food, small restaurant atmosphere, unusual preparation that satisfy sight, smell, and taste."

  • "This little place was a pleasant surprise. Be careful if you're not use to a completely organic and healthy menu. They advertise a full bar but there definition of "full" is not the same. I had an Italian mule...it was great! But you won't find a rum and coke! They don't serve soda and the alcohol selection is slim. The flat iron steak and the chicken were the tenderest I've ever found! And everything had superb flavor! I would go again for sure."

  • "This place was nice, quiet, looks like a good happy hour too. We came for DineLA. We enjoyed our meal, and especially loved the leek, mushroom tart. The desserts and the cauliflower appetizer might need a little bit of a rehab, though."

  • "After discovery of Muddy Leek through a friend 6 weeks ago, this was my 2nd time back. I love this place! The menu delivers absolute explosions to your taste buds! I have not yet repeated an item or been disappointed with a new selection. I wish I lived closer or was in the Culver City area more often."

  • "I ordered a glass of wine here that had to be one of the worst-tasting wines I've encountered. When I told the waiter that it wasn't drinkable, he offered to bring a glass of something else. I assumed that the first glass would be taken off the bill, as it would have been at most good restaurants, but it was not. I will not be returning."

  • "I heard good things about this place so when my wife wanted to take me out to a casual but nice birthday dinner, this was the pick. The organic/sustainable/local sell got me, along with the promise of lamb shanks. However, service was unacceptably slow on a night in which the place was only a third full. My wife ordered a glass of hot water at one point, then we saw the waitress disappear, then work on folding napkins, and then come back and tell us she'd forgotten the water. The food itself was decent. The lamb was tender but lacked any flavor. Lentil soup was fine but, again, didn't have any flavor notes that would make you take notice. That's how the whole experience was: nice enough but without anything truly enjoyable."

  • "Fresh food with an abundance of flavor. I'm a foodie and love to try non-typical menu items, this place did not disappoint, I had some amazingly creative dishes and dove into newly discovered flavors, like bone marrow bruschetta (yum). My husband, who is NOT a food lol sticks with what he knows and is hesitant to try new things. But he was more than pleased with his steak and onion straws, letting the server know "it was the best steak he's ever tasted". We were both impressed and more than satisfied with our new find!"

  • "Applause to the chef for trying unique combinations and presenting the ingredients with love. One can feel the care at every turn at this restaurant. The back patio is quiet and lovely - great for a relaxing lunch or a business meeting over fabulously honest food. The daily special is always different and worth the adventure every time. Go and enjoy."

  • "We went early, so it was very quiet, and even as people arrived, it wasn't too noisy — always a bonus. The black sesame encrusted scallops with the seared mustard root and charred stem were fabulous (sauce was a little too strong for my tongue. Great curry-flavored chicken soup, and the apple crisp dessert was great. My second time there, and I'll definitely go back. Sara, our server was a real delight."

  • "Everything works at Muddy Leek from the moment you walk in the door to the end of the evening, the owners of this restaurant know what a good dining experience is. A good dining experience does not have to be an event. It was a treat to be able to sit with friends and enjoy ourselves and our meal. Our waitress was NOT an actress. She knew the menu, the ingredients and the wines. AS we finished one course, our plates were unobtrusively taken away. Starting with the bread and butter, slices of whole grain bread cut into quarters and almost warm to a desert with gingerbread and pears that sounded so awful we knew it had to be great the 4 of us enjoyed our meal."

  • "happy hour lasted all night on Tuesday, nice surprise, could not stand the brussel sprouts, burnt rice and soy sauce, just awful. better items were the cauliflower croquettes, pizetta, and fried bacon. good attentive staff. good mains."

  • "All the food is well prepared and they use good ingredients. It's a little pricey for a "casual" dinner and the portions were modest, but there was good attention to detail for every bit that was on the plate. Nothing particularly stood out and I don't think it's a good enough value to warrant being a go to spot, but it's definitely a place to go if you want a solid farm to table experience."

  • "Been wanting to come here for quite some time (after the novelty "reservation chaos" finally wore off), and it just kept slipping my mind until last Friday. I was pleasantly surprised by the ingenuity of the menu, the variety of options and, of course, the quality of the food and flavors. I had an extremely difficult time narrowing down my choices (specials included). I ended up having the scallop soup (unique and delicious, a definite winner), the black radish latke, and finally the potato, spinach and leek tart (yum!). I very much enjoyed dining here. I will be back again, for sure."

  • "This restaurant won't last. The service was appalling. It took almost 2 hours to get the bread. Waiter was in attentive and didn't know what was in the food. And, the food was terrible except for the potato Tart and gnocchi."

  • "Infused ice spheres that melt in speciality cocktails immediately told me this place was going to be great. Seafood tacos of the day with homemade salsa? A surprise gift of chocolate truffles for dessert? Well played, Muddy, well played."

  • "The Muddy Leek is a nice little gem in the Culver City area. But, with all the great food out there, it's hard to put it up there in the top. It's farm to table style is definitely a draw and the patio dining and great service are worth it to see for yourself."

  • "This was my pick for a first date restaurant. I'm always trying to find places that I think would appeal to myself (vegan) and my non-vegan company. This is a nice First date restaurant because it is not too noisy, there is both indoor and outdoor (with heat lamps) seating. Server was very knowledgeable about the menu and took our order without writing it down (repeated it back to us perfectly). (seasonal menu) The Brussels sprouts and spinach were tasty, my date had the chicken pot pie which he devoured. We split the pickled veggies (not his cup of tea). He did enjoy the upside down pear cake (which doesn't taste much like pear) I had the whiskey cocktail (forgot the name, sorry) it's delicious. He had the MOvember cocktail (too spicy)"

  • "Brussels sprouts app--so salty we were wincing. Goat cheese salad was star of the night--outstanding. Everything else was a disappointment. Our portions were laughably small. Friend enjoyed chicken pot pie. I had the duck special. It was gristly. The sweet potato side was simply wedges with no treatment whatsoever, and chewy/tough like they'd been microwaved too long. My friend's flat iron steak was slightly overcooked and nothing special. The waiter gave attitude when I asked him to describe the chocolate sugar pie. "It's chocolate. With sugar." Thanks. So clear now. Loved the clean lines of the place, how quiet it was, and in theory the menu. Need to work on execution and pay attention to details. Lackluster overall impression."

  • "The chicken pot pie was wonderful, really delicious. The squash soup was really tasty and rich. It was amazingly good. Everything is organic. The wine pourings were very generous. The quality of the food was top-notch and spabce and the building in which it is located is very architecturally interesting."

  • "Not as impressed on our 2nd visit to the Muddy Leek, as we were by our 1st. Patio seating was nice on a hot night, but seems to be lacking a little magic. Cocktails were good, as they should be @$12 a crack, and the GIANT ice cubes, seem to be a little less so~yay! Very good food for the most part...the slider was perfectly delicious, manchego Monte Cristo sandwich app was good, but could have used a more distinctively flavored jam. The special wild salmon w/quinoa dish was delish, while the duck trio was good & unique, but the Meat was a little overcooked & dry. As is the case with many restaurants, the food & drinks especially, are a little overpriced for what you get. If 1/2 or 3/4 stars could be awarded, I'd have give it a 3.75 overall."

  • "Even though the drive from Brentwood to Culver City was a tangle, partially due to the CC Farmer's Market on Tuesday that was in full swing, it was worth it to finally arrive at Muddy Leek. Our waiter, Allen, was very helpful in determining what to order. It all sounded so tasty. The lamb dish, shrimp and polenta were topped off by the peach cake... a real winner. Definitely going back."

  • "The online reviews looked good, so we gave it a try Saturday night. Delightful! It started with wonderful house-baked bread and ended with a great apple pana cotta and everything in between was just right. Now, if only they had a capuccino machine...."
