Diner Reviews
  • "Food was great and they couldn't have been nicer. Our party grew from 4 to 5 at the last minute and even though it was only a table for 4 and they were very busy, they were very accommodating and just added another chair. Great overall dining experience with delicious food, and nice staff."

  • "The gentleman helping us was very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Location was rustic. Food was magnificent."

  • "First time eating here and the food was incredible, especially at the price point. Loved the small intimate atmosphere (we sat downstairs so didnt see upstairs)"

  • "From a Buona Sera greeting to coffee and grappa, it was a lovely experience. The atmosphere is romantic, and the noise level reasonable for a full restaurant on a Saturday night. My Tagliere della Casa was almost a meal in itself, and my wife loved her pear and gorgonzola salad. We both had the pappardelle with wild boar ragù, and the pasta was very fresh. Portion size was just right and we were eager to try dessert – a rarity for us if we’ve already had two courses. A problem was choosing wine from such a fabulous list – it must be the best Italian list in Portland. As we are big fans of Italian wines, it was great to find Teroldego and Lagrein alongside the more famous wines. Service was excellent – Andrew was friendly and efficient."

  • "We'll offer the best recommendation of all. After hearing good comments, my husband and I tried Mucca. One week later we brought three more family members for a birthday celebration. Everyone, including a nine-year-old, loved it. Terrific pasta dishes -- a bit different than the typical. I had the mushroom tortelli the first time and had to have it again. Our server graciously accommodated the child by modifying a pasta dish to make it more "kid-friendly. Although there were no other children in the restaurant, we felt comfortable and welcome. There were several entree choices other than pasta, and next visit we plan to try some. Mucca provides excellent food and a lovely, friendly, neighborhood atmosphere right in the middle of downtown."

  • "Seated to the bill being put on our table was 30 minutes. Not relaxing and extremely rushed through our dinner. The food was great. They sat us next to the door and people waiting for their table or our table, stood directly over our shoulder watching us eat through the entire meal. They stood no more then 3 feet away. Extremely annoying."

  • "My husband and I did the tasting menu along with the wine pairing. Everything was fabulous from the food to the service. We cant wait to dine at Mucca again."

  • "Had a lovely date night with hubby here on Saturday night. 2 days later we are still talking about our amazing dinner. Everything from the bread to dessert was delicious. We have both been to many restaurants in Portland. Hands down the best pasta (I had the tortelli). My husband had the chicken and said it was fantastic. I'm vegetarian so I did not try it, but my husband is picky so it must've been good. Pannacotta was melt in your mouth. Service was impeccable. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Mucca is a perfect place, unexpectedly downtown along the MAX line. Great ambience, staff and food complete your experience. Make a reservation, take the time to enjoy a wonderful meal...."

  • "The table was not ready at reservation time, and host spent a little time blaming the lingering diners. However, this is a restaurant's challenge to manage, and they're not a new restaurant. After we were seated, the abundant and very attentive wait staff redeemed the experience. The food was good--flavorful and ample--with the bread made in house and quite lovely. Would recommend."

  • "I had such a wonderful time at Mucca Osteria. It was just around the corner from my hotel (the Sentinel). I went by myself and sat at the bar, which is a GREAT seat if you want to watch the chefs cook! My chicken Marsala with brussel sprouts and spinach was delicious. The bread with olive oil was also fantastic. The service was superb. I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "The menu was a bit over my head so that may be the problem. So I ordered something familiar; chicken Marsala. Have had it many times but with a cream sauce. The chicken was delicious but not a hint of Marsala near as I could tell. Made a comment to the waiter who said thanks and he would pass it on. He said the chef was from Rome and perhaps that's how they do it there. At 7 PM on a Wed night the noise level was painful! No kidding. My wife was one foot away and we had to lean over and speak loudly to understand each other most of the time. I asked for a crisp. off-dry white wine and the Soave (sp?) was a very good choice. My wife's entrée was wild boar on pasta from the 3 for $29 menu and was less than wonderful. Sorry, just not for us."

  • "I've been to Mucca twice now and this second time around the service was pretty slow. It took us over 45 min to receive our drinks and over an hour to get our salad. This was unexpected as they weren't very busy and it was a Monday night. The first time I went it was a Friday night and the service was much faster. The food is excellent and the cocktails are good. Prices are excellent for the quality of food you get. I would recommend going, as this place seems to be a hidden gem."

  • "We were visiting from out of town and felt like Italian. Mucca Osteria was absolutely perfect! Food, atomosphere, service was outstanding."

  • "I really loved this place. Tiny and a little cramped, but the servers were excellent and the food was quite good. Pasta was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Starter of tombo tuna, avocado was very good. Soup/Salad were well done. My pannacota was heavenly. Wife's semifredo was good. We went to try out the $29 dollar menu and left quite impressed. We will definitely be coming back to Mucca."

  • "A lovely small restaurant adjacent to MAX light rail. Our table was next to the open kitchen. The combination of music, kitchen noise and occasional MAX rumble made it rather noisy. I would expect it to be quieter in the upstairs loft. We ordered from the March dining month menu ($29 for salad, entree and dessert) plus an extra entree from the regular menu. The salad was excellent but over-dressed. Main course portions are expensive, small, and delicious. I would have liked to order the rabbit, but at $26 it was beyond what I was willing to spend. Instead I enjoyed the creamy risotto with mushrooms, gorgonzola and red wine ($19). Coffee was intense and served with a small chocolate; the perfect ending for a nice meal."

  • "It's a hidden gem in downtown Portland. Don't tell anyone about it; it's getting crowded enough already, and I always want to be able to get a table. Everything is amazing, and the pasta dishes will make you sigh with pleasure."

  • "Mucca is a great little find. It's small, quaint, and very intimate. It's on a block that has another 4 or 5 restaurants but is the only one that is fine dining. The food is very good and the dishes are full of flavor, yet simple and not over the top with ingredients. Service was always friendly and attentive. They are involved with Portland Dining Month and their $29 dollar special is outstanding and highly recommended if you go during the month of March. I'll be back!"

  • "Pates were excellent, the Rabbit one of the best I've ever had. The Wild Boar Ragu, Yum!! Service attentive, friendly, knowledgable w/o being obtrusive. And the bread, can't say enough about the walnut bread and the Focaccia. Definately a do again."

  • "We decided to try Mucca Osteria as part of the Portland Food Month promotion. Had a very nice meal. Once we were seated, the service was very good. I did have some questions regarding the wine selection and received a very good recommendation. The meals came out promptly. The waiter gave an explanation of the charcuterie plate. Liked some of it, not so wild about others, but that was OK. The entrees and dessert were very good. The only issue we had was upon arrival. Nobody greeted us at the door. When we arrived there were two other couples waiting to be seated. Another couple arrived after us and were seated before us. They were very busy, but watching throughout the evening this seemed to be an ongoing issue. Not a good first impression."

  • "We tried Mucca for their pre fix menu for Portland Dining Month and it was great! Love the energetic yet cozy ambience- pretty noisy, but overall a great experience. The food was delicious, but portion size is a little small for the price. So glad we gave this place a try- we will be back!"

  • "Went on a weeknight during Portland Dining Month. The food was wonderful and generous servings. It was busy that evening and possibly the servers and bartender were swamped by surprise with all the special $29.95 diners."

  • "We love Italian food, and selected Mucca Osteria to celebrate my wife's birthday. What a great choice. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The food was a "10". The wine selection was enormous! Highly recommend to dine here."

  • "This was our first time at Mucca Osteria, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is warm, inviting, and decorated well. It is not a large establishment which lends to its charm. I loved all of the choices on the menu. I could taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients in every dish."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner here. We had mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto as an appetizer and parsnip soup. Our entrees were gnochetti and beef and kale ravioli in a sage/butter sauce. Dessert was panna cotta. I had a glass of nebbiolo. The flavors are subtler than most Italian restaurants, so if you want a heaping plate of spaghetti drowning in sauce this is not the place for you. Everything was served smoothly, politely and unobtrusively. Our water glasses were refilled without having to ask. We were not rushed, despite the fact that the space is on the small side. The upstairs is a little more intimate. Great place for lunch, too."

  • "We like to try new restaurants and Mucca is now onsidered to be one of our best discoveries. Our foursome enjoyed crab salad, ravioli, tagliatelle and the shrimp & mussels in broth. Everything was excellent. Service was perfect with a very attentive (but not overkill) staff that provided one of our best dining experiences in Portland."

  • "Took advantage of the Portland Dining Month special - everything we had was delicious and service was great. The location (middle of downtown) is not the swankiest, but that should not deter anyone from going. Highly recommended!"

  • "I loved this place. The food is so good and came in a timely fashion. Yes even the appetizers. The wait staff were there when you needed them and not there when you didn't need them. This place is small but the tables are set perfectly I didn't feel like I was sitting with another couple next to us. It wasn't loud. I would love to go back soon!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went there for valentines day at first we really likes the place it was quiet and had a good romantic setting. We ordered the pear salad to start with which was absolutely amazing and was a good size but when we got our main dishes (both got pasta) they were both very plain, not much flavor and both of us thought it was missing something.. Maybe a veggie on the side or in the dish to give it a little more texture. If you were to go there I would recommend adding a veggie or some kind of meat to the main dish. :)"

  • "Took my wife here for the first time to celebrate V-day. Very cozy setting, sat upstairs looking out over Morrison St. Chef's specials were many and sounded great. I selected the special salad which featured crab, it was small but very good. Wife had the farm salad with gorgonzola and pears - plentiful and delish. For pasta I had the Tagliatelle with suasage and pancetta - it was awesome. My date had the Tagiatelle with mushrooms and oregon truffles - very mild but tasty. Shared a half bottle of the Brunello di Montalcino, which was pricey but worth it. Service was a bit slow but we weren't in a hurry. Another table was heading to a show and they made an effort to serve them quickly, which I appreciate. Overall a very nice experience."

  • "My wife and I came to Mucca Osteria before a concert at the Schnitz. The food, one regular appetizer (roasted quail), one special appetizer (dungeness crab salad), one regular entree (sauted black cod), and one dessert (panna cotta), was wonderful and the service was spot-on: attentive without hovering, engaging and helpful. We had three glasses of wine and two cocktails between us. Our server made an excellent suggestion of a Barbera to go with the entree. And the bread to start (made in-house) and the panna cotta to end were worthy of returning on their own. The ambiance was very understated and cozy. Each table had a candle; I think I almost burned my menu at one point, but it was a nice touch."

  • "Honestly the best in Portland. Disappointed I don't live there, or I'd be there weekly. Affordable prices, which honestly, they could charge 3 times more for the food and I'd pay it. Highly recommend!"

  • "It is always a delight to have the mouth-watering homemade bread and the fabulous entrees. Portions are on the small side, but is Ok for us. . The salad is ho-him. Appetizers are scrumptious and the semi- Freddy was quite tasty. This restaurant is a keeper."

  • "The bread, the ravioli, all so delicious. The waiter was very helpful in recommending some options. The beef and kale raviloi in the butter sauce on a bed of melted cheese was to die for. I also can't stop thinking about the homemade bread. I usually try to avoid the basket, but I just couldn't help myself. A great venue upstairs with cool bar. Would be great for a small party."
