Diner Reviews
  • "Food here is amazing northern italian. The quail appetizer is to die for."

  • "The restaurant was great; however there seems to be a disconnect between OpenTable communications and the restaurant itself. I made an online reservation for 4 people at Mucca, and I received a confirmation email from OpenTable for 4 people. But when we arrived at our reserved time, Mucca staff informed us that they had a reservation for us for only 2 people. They were gracious and accommodating, and fortunately they were able to resolve the situation for us, eventually. But it seems there is a software/communications glitch of some sort that needs to be sorted out to avoid these embarrassing and stressful situations."

  • "The food was amazing. I had the gnocchi and the broth was light and flavorful. The other diner had the risotto. The presentation wasn't great, as it looked as though it had been eaten already... but it tasted really good. The staff members were knowledgeble, attentive and professional."

  • "Mucca Osteria is an exceptional italian restaurant. The food was delicious (especially the pasta!), the service was fast and thorough, the atmosphere was airy and light. I would highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back again and again!"

  • "The food was good, but the environment is a very low key. I was with the client for a business dinner and I did not feel very comfortable. It is more for a family and friends. Also the restaurant is very small but the service was slow."

  • "This was a much better experience than first time around. We asked to be seated upstairs and it was way more comfortable than the front table downstairs. Food was excellent as prior visit and nice that we could order half bottle of wine."

  • "Our very first trip to Portland, OR, the counseur of the hotel in which we were staying recommended Mucca, we enjoyed it so much that we came back & had dinner a second night before leaving Portland & our entire trip to the area was only 6 days!!!! LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The Gnocchi, tagnatelle pasta, were fabulous as well as other dishes that were on the menu! Great homemade Spumoni & panacotta so save some room for dessert!!!"

  • "Just a few blocks from Pioneer square and our hotel, this was a great treat. Excellent service and outstanding food. The pasta was tasty and al dente. The wines and desserts also impressed. Highly recommend."

  • "Three of us met here for dinner to plan a trip. We shared three entrees and I'll have to say they were all good. The favorite of the group was the pork shoulder. The service was very good and the wait staff was friendly. The food is quite comparable to the food we have eaten in Italy."

  • "I'm from Seattle and was visiting Portland with my gf. This is honestly the best Italian restaurant I've been to in the Pacific NW. Fantastic atmosphere and service. Reasonably priced. Nice wine selection. Great appetizers including the scallops. For the main course, I had hallibut stuffed ravioli which was excellent. Overall, a great experience and perfect for a date!"

  • "We just recently discovered Mucca and it has become our new favorite little neighborhood spot for dinner. The food is delicious and the service is attentive. It's cozy inside with a few tables and some primo seats at the bar where you can watch the food being preopared. Everyone concerned seems to be intent on making your dining experience at Mucca a pleasurable one. We love it!"

  • "Charming wait staff and interesting if short menu. Salads are extremely fresh, beautifully prepared and generous. The pan roasted halibut was fresh, simple and delicious though just a bit dry from overcooking. In all quite good."

  • "I simply don't understand why Mucca doesn't get more attention in the PDX foodie press. Oh well, just means more fabulous capesante scottate, tagliere della casa, pappardelle al cinghiale and gnocchi al coniglio for me. Nostrana? (Never had a good experience), Ava Gene's? (Fab, but not traditional trattoria cooking), Genoa? (glorious once upon a time, much like Giorgio's sadly). Mucca and DOC remain consistent favorites. I lived in Italy for 2 years. Mucca feels and tastes like my most memorable trattoria meals in Florence, Ravenna, Arezzo and Rome."

  • "We have found an outstanding neighborhood Italian restaurant that combines top quality food, superb preparation and attentive (but not overwhelming) service. Our dinner salads were made with fresh, crisp lettuce and the entries (grilled trout and pasta) were well prepared. Mucca tops our list as a restaurant we will continue to revisit. The only drawback to an evening of great dining was a noise level that made conversation difficult."

  • "I have had the pleasure of visiting Italy on three occasions with stops in Rome each time. This is the most authentic Italian pasta I have had in Portland. The chef/owner is from Rome and it shows, wonderfully, in the preparation of the pasta and the spot on balance of the sauce in the dish. Highly recommended."

  • "The food, service and ambiance were excellent. The atmosphere is perfect for conversation and sharing good times with friends and loved ones."

  • "Our first time at this noteworthy restaurant. All the dishes arrived in a timely manner, impressive for a full house on a Friday night, and presented in photogenic perfection. Every dish was excellent (with hearty kudos for the prosciutto with house-made burrata and the quail), and the service was warm, courteous, and professional. (Should you ever be served by Sean, you're in for a treat!) Portland has a plethora of restaurants that offer fine vittles, but Mucca stands out on all counts."

  • "Excellent dinner. We each had a pasta dish and the pasta literally melted in our mouths. This was a first. Everything was so fresh and delicious. We will definitely return."

  • "Tucked between a Lebanese and Persian restaurant right on the Max line, Mucca Osteria is one of my favorite PDX restaurants. I have always eaten well here. The Chef is right there behind the sit down bar and he is always willing to talk to his customers and cater to their allergies, etc. HIS BREADS ARE OUTSTANDING. Especially the foccacia, the flavors of which he changes seasonally. Ask him about his yeast. The carpaccio is heavenly. The gnocchi is tender. The panna cotta speaks for itself. Great place to people watch if you are sitting in the window or from up above."

  • "I like almost everything about Mucca Osteria. The food is delish, ambiance is dialed in. The only thing I have noticed consistently below the mark is time for drink service from the bar. Maybe, I should stick to wine only. Still, nothing to prevent another return."

  • "Excellent food and service. The music is very very loud."

  • "Celebrated our son's birthday, group of 5. Service, food, drinks..all fabulous. Rest of the party did not seem to mind the street noise but it detracted notably from the enjoyment of my dinner.....not keen on having MAX run by in the middle of a delicious bite! As the success of the restaurant rises, the owners may perhaps think of relocating the same to a quieter area in town. Fabulous Food and Service!"

  • "Space is small but adds to overall experience, food was outstanding, service was equally as good. Keeping Mucca Osteria on the list for date night."

  • "This place is awesome. The standout was the tuna tartare appetizer and the wild boar pasta dish. My husband had the rabbit dish but we both thought it was not all that good. I have seen several reviews saying the portion sizes are small. They are smaller than most places but it is the perfect amount. With an appetizer and entree we were very much satisfied. And of course it leaves room for the wonderful baked fresh bread :)"

  • "The decor is really wonderful but the hard surfaces meant no sound absorption and very loud my 2 colleagues and I barely could have a conversation. Maybe now that it is getting warmer out, we will try again eating outside; otherwise there are better fits in the neighborhood "

  • "Had a wonderful experience, as always at Mucca Osteria. The service could not have been better, the food delectable, perfectly cooked and the ambiance cozy. One in our party of 6 has many food allergies that were taken very seriously and graciously by the staff. "

  • "Truly reminds me of dining in Italy. The food was creative, fresh and excellent. Charming server. Extensive wine list- though predominantly pricey selections. The bread was wonderfully Tuscan-style. "

  • "What a beautiful, simple place. Food was delicious (especially the burrata app), portions were perfectly sized, restaurant had a good buzz but wasnt super loud - was just a perfect date night."

  • "the bread is made in-house and delicious, pasta is fresh and the ambience is very European Italian. We have been several times and will be going again in a few weeks."

  • "The food was amazing, the bread with olive oil is a great entree. The pastas are really tasty. They added a surprise in our dessert because it was my girlfriend's birthday. I definitely have to come back again in another special occasion."

  • "Service and staff were great, attentive, not pushy, wonderful."

  • "We have walked by here several times and the room and menu were always very inviting. Finally made an early reservation a Sat evening. We split the tuna tartare which was OK. Needed a little more something - lemon juice or spice. The homemade pasta was a treat but our sauces, mine a rabbit ragu and the other the house special sausage, were just OK not great. Homemade bread was fabulous. Wine list very extensive and quite interesting. Desert of 3 cheeses a nice ending to the meal. Service very knowledgable and helpful if a bit slow at times. We wanted to love the place and we did have a pleasant evening but it just fell short. Too bad. "

  • "Well it was a great experience there, but the price of main dish is abit over excess, but definitely the environment and dishes are fascinating, also the service is pretty good the waitress patiently answer my questions and tell me what the dishes is. Expect it took pretty long time for the dishes to get ready. Well, for the price I only give 4 stars but its definitely worth it."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised with the food and wine at Mucca. The antipasti plate of fresh mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto was delicious as was the mushroom tortellini (though is had a fancier name). Service was attentive and informative but did not hover. Food came out at a nice pace - gave us time to really enjoy our dishes. All in all a great dining experience. "

  • "Our first dining experience here and was disappointed with the food. My halibut(special for the evening) with a couple of carrot sticks and brocollini was okay. Fish was fresh and simply pan fried, nothing from the ordinary . The other couple ordered pasta with rabbit (hardly no rabbit at all) and pasta with Italian sausage, special for the evening, very small portion of sausage as well. The wine was fairly priced and the waiter was attentive and pleasant. Overall, I want this restaurant to succeed since it is along ethnic row of restaurants. I hope they will improve the quality and quantity of food they serve. Thank you."
