A word from Mr. Rain's Fun House
Mr. Rain’s Fun House opened at The American Visionary Art Museum in November of 2009 serving contemporary American cuisine created by Chef Bill Buszinski and handcrafted cocktails by Perez Klebahn. The season sensitive menu incorporates influences from a myriad of cultures that make up America today. Utilizing the highest quality of local produce and meats, the menu offers diners an eclectic culinary journey.

The progressive beverage program highlights handcrafted cocktails, artisanal wines and small batch beers aimed to compliment the seasonal menu.

The Fun House offers an aesthetic unique to any other dining venue in Baltimore, capturing inspiration from The American Visionary Art Museum and beyond.

  • "This is a serious restaurant with great atmosphere, excellent food, attentive and friendly service. Access only by car, parking on street $2:00 an hour (metered). Interesting wine list, very expensive as usual. Way too noisy , very hard to converse. Quieter as it emptied out- not a place to met old friends and catch up as we were doing. But a very good restaurant well worth finding. I would definitely go back."

  • "Went to brunch last Sunday. First time dining at this restaurant. Felt the food was pretty tasty and well prepared but the portions were miniscule for the amount of money charged. Also, the service was very sluggish. I may try this place for dinner in the future, but brunch was an expensive exercise in mediocrity."

  • "Our party of four ate an early dinner on a Sunday evening (after the St. Patrick's day parade) and had a very enjoyable time. The food -- what was left of it -- was very good. Unfortunately, it being a Sunday, supplies of items on the menu were slim, and there was no trout left and only two portions of monkfish. But the remaining entrees were well prepared, and as usual, the cocktails were to die for. Our server was abashed at having to come back twice to say "we're out of it," but he steered us to excellent substitutes and handled the situation with aplomb."

I was a little disappointed in the bar selection. Would have preferred a full bar selection but it was limited. The birthday recognition was very nice. Overall a good place to dine."

  • "I have been wanting to try Mr. Rain's Fun House for sometime and it certainly did not disappoint. We went on valentines day and it was busy but the services was still excellent and the staff went out of there way to make you feel welcome. The cocktails and food was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant and plan to go back soon for dinner as well as just for drinks."

  • "although busy on a Sat mid day, we were seated promptly and the service was good. The food was good. The only problem was noise -- maybe we were just seated too close to a noisy group. Would like to revisit when you can eat outside. But would eat there again."

  • "The restaurant was a lot of fun. Located on the top floor of the AVAM, you can get your hand stamped separately so you don't have to pay for the museum. The brunch is some lunch and breakfast items but everything is made from scratch and tastes it --- delicious! We had a lovely server, who checked with us constantly to make sure everything was great. I had a hamburger and my friend had a pulled pork sandwich both with fries and Asian cole slaw, and we split an apple fritter and ice cream combination . I enjoyed the quirky art that was displayed around the room as well. There was a baby shower going on at the table behind us, so the noise level was a bit higher than I like but still a great time was had by all."

  • "This is one of my favorite and unique places to go in baltimore. It's a favorite find. I'm originally from manhattan and anytime I have out of town guests come I ALWAYS take them there. The fact that it's linked to the visionary arts museum makes it that much cooler. I highly recommend the tuna tartar."

  • "The mulled wine on a cold night was a great way to start off the meal. We had a good cross section of the menu (Burger, Trout and Steak) and everyone enjoyed. The service was outstanding enough that we gladly exceed the 20% tip. If the restaurant could find a way to muffle the conversation noise (it was a bit loud) I would gladly have given 5 stars."

  • "Artistic and fun and not overly formal. Did not disappoint. Crabcakes were delicious and NOT Maryland style. They were loaded with lump crabmeat prepared in a Thai style with cocoanut milk and a bit of Mango on top. Spicy and delicious! Very appropriate for the Visionary Arts Museum to do things with a twist. Our wait staff was very attentive and told us the history of the place, talked about the art (we asked) and even gave us a brief tour around the room. After our meal our server brought us a complementary flute of champagne. We didn't ask, they overheard us talk about birthdays. That was nice. What was nicer was the little birthday candle attached to the glass."

  • "Had a wonderful night out with friends! The food selection had a lot of unique items within each dish. Some we had never heard of, and were googling them until our waiter came over to help us figure out what we were ordering and patiently helped us each make a good choice. The appetizer (a pickle tray) was oustanding, everyone loved the salads, but the main courses were lacking. I left with a full stomach and smile on my face. I would dine here again, as they change their manu often. The staff was impeccable, and the space is decorated with many unique art pieces! It fittingly is located in AVAM. Plenty of parking was available, even though it was a Saturday the restaurant was almost empty. Try it! More people need to discover this gem."

  • "A fun space in American Visionary Art Museum--enter by main entry. Even "standard" fare is inventive &super delicious. Our lunch was so good, we'll be back! The waitress brought our drinks & great mini home-made pretzel rolls right away. At the waitress' suggestion we opted for a little cheese atop the potato leek soup (1 cheddar, 1 blue). Wow! It made a velvety soup creamier and more savory. Divinely herbed burgers were grilled as requested, topped simply w/ tomato & baby spinach. For sides, yummy fries or a nice cabbage slaw. Expect a leisurely lunch as food is made to order. The wait staff was nice, but for a light crowd could have checked in a bit more often to see if we needed anything. Overall a great first time here."

  • "The setting was amazing; the top floor of the Art Museum. The only issue was that the food seemed very subpare for the location. Don't get me wrong but the food seemed overly complicated and not very tasty. My wife and I didn't even finish our meal because we just didn't like the food."

  • "The restaurant is part of a uniquely odd art museum. We only tried the brunch menu, which was original and appealing. They seem rightly proud of their cured meats and our charcuterie plate was very nice, as were the two soups of the day. My poached egg/fresh sausage/toasted muffin dish was well executed with a pleasant cream sauce. Our waitress was cheerful and helpful. The wine list was fine. We will go back for dinner."

  • "While I realize that a pre fixe menu for New Year's Eve will always be on the pricey side, I've confirmed with other friends who've been to Mr. Rain's Fun House that the everyday prices far exceed the quality. My date and I were underwhelmed with every one of our seven dishes except the beet salad, which was tasty but not unique. The music, presumably only for the occasion, was SO LOUD that I think it was hard for our waitress to hear us very well. This resulted in some mixed up drink orders and, even though we were told the wrong drinks were "on the house," they showed up on our bill. She removed them once the mistake was pointed out. Overall, it's a cool restaurant to look at and the food seems to have ambitions of being equally as cool."

  • "We were searching for a restaurant for a group of 12 after touring the American Visionary Art Museum. Was surprised that this gem of a restaurant was right at the museum. We were pleased with the varied food and beverage selection and appreciated the attentive service. My only minor gripe was, we were really turned off by the restaurant's website and almost didn't there because of the impression we got from viewing the site on-line. Fortunately, the restaurant and staff are far more professional than the website would indicate."

  • "This is a great spot for dining, as fun and whimsical as the museum it's in but the food doesn't live up to it's potential. Burger buns are hard, barbeque is Cincinnati style (flavored with cinnamon) but this was not indicated on the menu, too much tea in the steeper basket means that the pot of tea is already too strong when it arrives at the table. The service was very good and the server was sympathetic and deducted from the bill for the barbeque but the chef needs to pay attention to the details."

  • "Perhaps it was not a fair night to judge this restaurant for the noise level as we were told there was a graduation dinner going on that evening so the noise level was much higher than usual. There appeared to only be one server who had a lot on him with the number of talbes he was taking care of. As for the food, that left a lot to be desired. My partner had the ribeye steak and he said it was terrible. One of our guests had the burger and he said it had no taste or flavor but the frys were good. I had the Oxtail Terriene which was overcooked and not enjoyable. When there are so many other great restaurants in Baltimore, I don't see myself going back to this one. Sorry!!"

  • "Food was good, though not as good as ratings suggested. Service left a lot to be desired. Incredibly slow, waiter kept forgeting a drink here or an appetizer there. And it seemed like he found waiting on our table an incredible inconvenience. Regardless, as a table of seven, we were stuck giving him an automatic 20% gratuity despite the poor service."

While a great dinner place, I do not think this place is on the radar in Bmore for brunch yet I think it is every bit as good as the places folks usually think of (e.g. Woodberry, Food Market).   • "The cocktails were fantastic and the complimentary pretzel bites and mustard sauce were addicting. The Duck Confit was pretty spicy and the Trotter tasted a little bland, but other than a few spice level issues, the food was great. Our waiter, while attentive in the beginning, pretty much forgot us once we got our entrees. He did not ask if we needed more drinks and it took ages to get the check."

  • "Baltimore you are missing out on a wonderful dining experience! We don't eat here often but when we do we wonder what took us so long to go back!! If I lived in Fed Hill or The Ritz I would be here weekly. Really fun vib decor, imaginative sculptures and mirror garlands hanging over the bar. Our waiter was wonderful, our meal well paced. Excellent wine by the glass/cocktails and extensive wine list. The Tuna Poke was so delicious we were forking each other for the last bit on the plate. Warm pretzel rolls with spicy mustard to die for. Duck Confit served tex/mex style layered between tortillas with salsa, cheese and a bit of spice. Large portion I finished at home the next day. So good!! Burger and ribeye were excellent, also. Go!"
