This is a British themed restaurant with an amazing selection of beers in a prime location within walking distance of Stowe's Main Street. The roaring fire, the quaint decor and the hearty food make for a perfect setting after a day on a the ski slopes. The food is simple, but very well put together. The lighting is a little dim so at times it was hard to read the menu properly and the service was a little slow at times (for example waiting a long time for drinks when the food had already come out) but overall the dining experience as relaxed and extremely enjoyable. The english bangers and mashed potatoes were excellent. This is definitely a restaurant to try when in Stowe.

Our family of 5 went for dinner on New Years Eve. Had a reservation for 7:30, but not seated until 8:00. Popular place and very busy. Having read reviews of the previous two nights, we came knowing it would take some time before being served. Our waiter was polite, but left way too much time in between seating and beverage order. It was a price fix menu for that night, so we placed the entire order at once when our drinks had arrived. At least our food order would be in as our waiter helped his other tables. Spent a long time there, three hours, kids were bored by then. Food was very good, ambiance was like an old english pub, quite charming. They are in need of additional wait staff.

    * Our table was not ready-we accepted seating in the pub * No wait staff was available so we were waited on by a friend of the owner who was visiting on vacation * We waited 45 minutes to order drinks and then 30 minutes to order dinner * We waited 45 minutes to be served dinner after ordering . * One dinner was totally overcooked and one was not as stated on menu. If you are looking for good beer selection, visit the pub but cannot recommend the restaurant. Have made many reservations through open table and this is the first one that I can say I would not recommend in any way for dinner.

looked forward to this place, but was VERY unimpressed. the food was decent as was the service, but it took FAR too long for ALL of our food. after being seated, my gf and i waited for 20 minutes for bread and butter and 45 minutes after that we received our salads (one of which was soaked in dressing). after finishing our salads, we waited another 45 minutes for our entrees. to fill our time, we took in the ambiance of a leaking ceiling in the corner of the room, the unbussed table next to us & fellow diners joking/complaining about the poor/super-slow service. at the end of it all, we received a check for $80...talk about audacity. unless you like waiting a long time for decent food and paying a lot of money for it, then STAY AWAY!

Pickwick's offers a fairy authentic UK atmosphere, a charming host and staff, and an interesting beer selection. Unfortunately, we waited 70 minutes for our entrees after we ordered, due to a snafu with a big party. Yet upon arrival, the $36 Beef Wellington looked rushed. When it arrived, I ordered a beer, which I never got. The whole experience was unfortunate, because we had high hopes. We had a passing thought they might comp our drinks or a kid's meal, but alas, they did not. While we were told it is kid-friendly in the review, and other children were there, Pickwick's is probably best-suited for adults with time on their hands, low expectations, money to spare, and a designated driver.

We dined with three adults and an infant. Even though we had an infant with us, our waiter left us for long times without checking on us. If we didn't have a baby with us it would have been okay to linger. But when the waiter left us the first time too long, I asked him not to leave us again like that as we didn't have a long time to eat due to the child's schedule. Each of our three meals were not what we hoped for or asked for. The two other adults had very little fish/meat portions. My burger tasted as though it had cheese as a filler which I was not told of. Plus I asked for it cooked medium and it was well done and tough. The whole food and service experience was awful. We will not be returning there soon.

I had been looking forward to the Beef Wellington and was not disappointed! Everything was delicious! It was the most expensive meal on our week trip to Vermont, but you get what you pay for. I was disappointed they would not take my coupon from the Buy Local book. Yes, I know it said right on there it would not apply for the week I was there, but it was the only week I would be there all the way from Iowa. $10 off would have been nice. I was too full to try their amazing desserts, but next time I am in the area I will start with them. I would visit Mr. Pickwick's again in a heartbeat!

My family and I visit Vermont every summer, and often include a visit to this restaurant. This year, it was a special request of my children (11,13 and 14). They love the selection, and I love the empty plates! The staff were very accommodating in rearranging tables to seat 9 of us. The food was hot and tasty, and the waiter was very attentive. He made us all feel very comfortable. We look forward to going again next year! Looks like it is becoming part of our family tradition!

The food was adequate at best. I ordered a filet meal specifically because the menu said it came with brussel sprouts. No one had apparently informed the waiter that there were NO brussel sprouts for the night. The asparagus were tough & chewy, the rest of the veggies were limp. The filet was cooked fine, but horribly underseasoned & there was very little sauce. The fingerling potatoes were also undercooked and absolutely unseasoned. For dessert I ordered "cheve honey" cheesecake. It was HORRIBLE! It was about 3/4 of an inch high. It was not listed as a cheesecake "bar" so I assumed it would be a normal size cheesecake. It was so dry that the inside was flaky. It was so overcooked that there was a thick brown crust. Inedible!

We have been going there for ten years when we visit Stowe. The service can be sometimes slow but the food is great. Our first night, thank God we had not skied . We had two kids 11 and 9 for 6:30 reservation. We waited an hour for appetizers., which were good. Waitress very nice and sincerely sorry for wait time. Place not full, so stupefied as to why we waited so long. When we did receive our entrees, my husband and I both had steak. My son, a humbuger and my daughter had lamb lollipops. Well, my filet mignon was dry and his ribeye looked like my cat had thrown up on it! The Maitre de gave the kids free dessert, we had an after dinner coffee. Honestly, we should have asked for our money back. It was $200+ without the frthi

Their mulligatawny soup continues to be fantastic. As far as the rest of the dinners, I ordered the seafood salad and asked for more dressing. I requested honey mustard or maple vinaigrette and was given raspberry vinaigrette. I poured it over the salad and as soon as I did, I realized it had cinnamon in it - in raspberry vinaigrette??? When the waitress returned to ask how everything was, I told her about the cinnamon and she said they make all their own dressings. D'oh.

We were seated immediately upon arrival but had to wait a while before our server came by. We ordered the calamari for a starter. The sauce was AMAZING but the calamari was rather cold (it was likely sitting for a while before it was served). My son loved the fish & chips dinner (the haddock was nicely breaded and the steak fries were great) and I thoroughly enjoyed the arugla salad with salmon (the salmon was cooked perfectly). It is a bit on the pricey side but quite enjoyable overall.

We sat in the separate quiet room which is handy for converation. The server forget a asparagus side, which was brought promptly but was yellow-green when it arrived. The halibut ws on the drier side, and my crab cake had a few chunks of crab meat and was rather more of a mash. Nothing was bad. Maybe my expectations were heightened, based on the Open Table reviews. What we found was reflected my my first impression as we pulled up, reasonable food in a period environment, at least the main dining area.

We have been to Mr. Pickwick's several times and have never had a bad experience. The service has always been top notch, and the food is always fabulous. The restaurant is also very attentive to food allergies; my children have allergies to several common foods (nuts and dairy) and they are willing to accommodate. We sat outdoors for dinner, and it was extremely pleasant. We will always return to Mr. Pickwick's whenever we visit Stowe; this restaurant beats any of the 'fancy' resort restaurants in Stowe in terms of service, food quality, and price point.

Decent spot up in Stowe. They were very busy the night we were there with a lacrosse tournament in town and the usual Summer-in-Vermont-wedding rehearsal dinners. But our waitress was a very competent young gal and she handled herself weel. I had the wild game mixed grill saudsage and, although I didn't care for all of them, tha't was just a matter of taste. Three out of four I loved and I applaud them for putting boar, duck, elk and venison on the menu. We'd go back. It's not a"dining experience" in a big city way, but you are in Vermont, after all, and it's very unique for the area.

The mulligatawny soup was delicious. It appeared that the fish and chips would have been good as well from the look of it at the table next to us. Our steaks were overcooked (ordered med rare and arrived mostly grey with a slight hint of pink center) fries were a good choice for side, mushrooms were dried up and a very small portion. Hands down the best part of the restaurant is the extensive beer menu. For what we spent ($170. before tip) it did not live up to our expectations. Would recommend only going for some beer on the deck and possibly some pub standards. Stay away from the steaks.
