Seven of us dined on Sunday evening and we had reasonable expectations even and good recommendations from friends. The entrees were bland, served cool, and just did not taste that great. The crispy duck was over crispy. The sweet and sour pork was not indistinguishable from the hot and sour chicken. Plus the service made us feel rushed. The plates were cleared before everyone was finished eating. The server took the serving dish and decided to put the last morsels on several people's plates without them asking. There are many choices in New York. This should not be one of them.

  • My worst meal in New York

When a restaurant in New York has openings all night on a Saturday, you have to be concerned and you should wonder why? I did not , but I got a first hand experience in this Chinese Restaurant. It is a huge place that is decorated in a distasful manner. Service was good, but food was just plain bad. Greasy, not fresh, poorly prepared. After taking the first taste of my first dish, I immediately realized why no one was in the restaurant. I do not know how this place stays open, it is a disgrace to Chinese cuisine

I used to visit Mr. K's restaurant years ago with my parents, and had wonderful memories. It was amazing to bring my wife and daughter here for dinner after years of living outside New York. The food was exquisite, and the small touches (like sorbet intermezzo, chopstick holders, and warm cloths in between courses) makes this a special experience indeed. This restaurant will always be my high bar with which to compare all other Chinese restaurants.

Let's get the only negative out of the way early. The velour/velvet covered banquets are hot and not as comfortable as leather covered seating would be. That's it. The food was superbly prepared - Spicy foods were spicy, and delicious. Vegetables were fresh and crisp. We ordered a crispy, spicy fish that was not on the menu, and it was perfectly prepared - tender and flaky, smothered in an onion spiced sauce. Waiters expertly filleted it table side for us ( there were a couple of bones, but, it was fish) and the sauce was terrific and tasty. All of the other dishes were equally remarkable. Seafood spring rolls were bursting with large, succulent shrimp. It was a great meal. Service was impeccable.

Had dinner. It liked the wait staff very much. They were polite and attentive. The plates used made me feel I was in another world. It was probably the most entertaining part, anticipating what type of plates would be used on the next round of food. The food itself was good. I think I expected a bit more in terms of finding more authentic selections, but I did enjoy what I ordered. The décor was a bit busy for my taste, but the restaurant is large and a great place for those visitors that want to have a familiar meal and ambiance.

The food was delicious, but the service was terrible. We felt ignored. Several tables had food and drinks brought to them while we were still waiting for our first round and ice water. The ambiance is nice and feels like old New York. Its very art deco and would have been fantastic if the service was just a little better.

We had a birthday lunch at Mr. K's. The prixe fixe lunch at $28 cannot be beat. The room is lovely, the food delicious, the service a little stiff and formal. The flower for the ladies is always a wonderful touch and the serving pieces are beautiful. The coffee service is elegant.

I loved the decor and the service, which was impeccable. However, the items on the Restaurant Week menu did not do the justice to the restaurant of this caliber. I ordered chicken with mushrooms and vegetables, but it was a standard Chinese cuisine quality, but nothing exceptional. The lovers dumplings as an appetizer were promising, but not exceptional, either.

I never heard of Mr.K's, although apparently they have been there for 18 years! Located near Grand Central Terminal across from Doubletree Hotel on Lexington. Upscale service-- warm towels before starting, women presented with small fresh flower pin, tables with center logo illuminated from beneath. Restaurant week offerings well executed-- tasty, but not wildly spiced. Items on regular menu highly priced. It's a nice place, and even though steep prices, I will return and can recommend

Worse than the fact that the food was barely edible, it was plated and served in a manner that demonstrated an utter disdain and lack of consideration for my party and me. I had such high hopes for an old-school "fancy" Chinese food experience, a la Bill Hong's. I was disappointed.

We visited Mr K's after reading different reviews and also because it was a pleasant walking distance from our hotel. The inside could probably do with a little updating but the service and food were very good so no complaints there. We ate earlier than we normally would, 7.30, so it may get noisier as the evening goes on but it was quiet when we were there.

Mr. K's offers traditional Chinese cuisine: velvet corn and chicken soup, vegetable dumplings, ginger chicken, etc. Overall, the food was good but I wouldn't say that the menus are creative or different in any way. It is something you could find in any standard Chinese restaurant. The décor needs some updating and some renovations should be done. The restaurant does shows signs of age. It is more for an older crowd; the 20 and 30 somethings would probably go to Hakkasan. The service was excellent and the restaurant staff tried their best to accommodate my two year old child. The waiter also gave my mother and I a flower pin, which I felt was a nice touch.

    Dined on 8/2/2014
Mr. K's was delicious, the ambience is beautiful and quiet. It is a unique chinese restaurant as they offered us no tea, no chinese noodles on the table with duck sauce, no soy sauce on table. It is more upscale. Beautiful silverware and reusable chop sticks. They offered me a beautiful corsage to wear. The entrees came by themselves, rice or lo mein were extra at the cost of an additional entree. So although the food was delicious, it was very expensive for this type of cuisine.

We had early dinner reservations at 5.00PM. There was another table occupied an us. The staff was friendly and very attentive.. We shared two app shrimp roll and shrimp toast. A little on the pricey side but they where good. The entree was chicken with asparagus in a light sauce which was very good and nice portion. The other entree was chicken in a tangy sauce. We had 2 glasses of wine and the bill came out to $102.00. Food was good but very pricey.

The only complaint I have is I made the reservation on Open Table and requested a high chair. When we got there, I was told they do not have high chairs or booster seats and we were with a 16 month old child. Someone should have addressed that when I made the reservation. Other than that, great food.
