It would be hard to top this place for a chinese dinner. It starts off by giving a flower to every woman at the table and from there the sumptuous food begins to be served. Every dish is a masterpiece. If you want the best chinese food there is only 1 place to go.

We had a birthday lunch at Mr. K's. The prixe fixe lunch at $28 cannot be beat. The room is lovely, the food delicious, the service a little stiff and formal. The flower for the ladies is always a wonderful touch and the serving pieces are beautiful. The coffee service is elegant.

I loved the decor and the service, which was impeccable. However, the items on the Restaurant Week menu did not do the justice to the restaurant of this caliber. I ordered chicken with mushrooms and vegetables, but it was a standard Chinese cuisine quality, but nothing exceptional. The lovers dumplings as an appetizer were promising, but not exceptional, either.

I never heard of Mr.K's, although apparently they have been there for 18 years! Located near Grand Central Terminal across from Doubletree Hotel on Lexington. Upscale service-- warm towels before starting, women presented with small fresh flower pin, tables with center logo illuminated from beneath. Restaurant week offerings well executed-- tasty, but not wildly spiced. Items on regular menu highly priced. It's a nice place, and even though steep prices, I will return and can recommend

We visited Mr K's after reading different reviews and also because it was a pleasant walking distance from our hotel. The inside could probably do with a little updating but the service and food were very good so no complaints there. We ate earlier than we normally would, 7.30, so it may get noisier as the evening goes on but it was quiet when we were there.

  • Good traditional Chinese food

Mr. K's offers traditional Chinese cuisine: velvet corn and chicken soup, vegetable dumplings, ginger chicken, etc. Overall, the food was good but I wouldn't say that the menus are creative or different in any way. It is something you could find in any standard Chinese restaurant. The décor needs some updating and some renovations should be done. The restaurant does shows signs of age. It is more for an older crowd; the 20 and 30 somethings would probably go to Hakkasan. The service was excellent and the restaurant staff tried their best to accommodate my two year old child. The waiter also gave my mother and I a flower pin, which I felt was a nice touch.

    Consistent
    Dined on 8/2/2014
Mr. K's was delicious, the ambience is beautiful and quiet. It is a unique chinese restaurant as they offered us no tea, no chinese noodles on the table with duck sauce, no soy sauce on table. It is more upscale. Beautiful silverware and reusable chop sticks. They offered me a beautiful corsage to wear. The entrees came by themselves, rice or lo mein were extra at the cost of an additional entree. So although the food was delicious, it was very expensive for this type of cuisine.

We had early dinner reservations at 5.00PM. There was another table occupied an us. The staff was friendly and very attentive.. We shared two app shrimp roll and shrimp toast. A little on the pricey side but they where good. The entree was chicken with asparagus in a light sauce which was very good and nice portion. The other entree was chicken in a tangy sauce. We had 2 glasses of wine and the bill came out to $102.00. Food was good but very pricey.

The only complaint I have is I made the reservation on Open Table and requested a high chair. When we got there, I was told they do not have high chairs or booster seats and we were with a 16 month old child. Someone should have addressed that when I made the reservation. Other than that, great food.

So, if you want a nostalgic, old school dining experience -- when men strived to be gentlemen and women strived to be ladies -- Mister K's is your place. Overpriced but tasty old school Asian Cuisine when it was okay to call them Chinese Restaurants. The silverware and dinnerware is museum vintage I think. And I think I saw James Bond and Anne Bancroft at a corner table sipping on martinis...

When in NYC we return to Mr K's because we believe it is an underrated gem. The food is varied and delicious, the presentation and service superb plus being able to find a restaurant where you can actually talk w/ your table mates while enjoying a superior meal is quite a rarity these days. Plus, who still brings a warm towel and a palate cleanser sorbet??? And, all of this in an art deco gem. A must go restaurant.

We always enjoyed visiting Mr. K's in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, it lost its lease a number of years ago and closed. So, when we were in New York, to celebrate our anniversary, it was first on our list of restaurants to dine at. We were definitely not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was impeccable and the ambience was delightful. We had an absolutely wonderful time and will highly recommend this restaurant to our friends.

There is no better chinese restaurant in NYC. The food and service is amazing. The women are given a flower to start the evening. After you go here other chinese food is very disappointing to eat. The decor is amazing. This is the only chinese restaurant that serves great desserts- most including Shun Lee offer you only ice cream or pineapple. Put your sneakers on and run here.
