  • "Saturday night at 10pm.. NOBODY! And the waiter with an attitude.. We arrived and he said to order because the kitchen was about to close!! Not nice at all to eat like that.. Creepy.. The food was ok, presentation was ok, the place is beautiful.. but... "

  • "This is a beautiful place in a gorgeous building. Art Deco Chinese! Clean and friendly the food was just ok. Very expensive for what it is but a nice place to take a date."

  • "We had gone there with our clients on a Thursday night. It was not a very busy evening and despite of that the service was not very good. Our server was grumpy it felt as if he was doing a favor by serving us. We ordered Tea which came after the appetizers and they served tea bags instead of tea leaves. ( I have never seen a chinese restaurant which serves tea bags) we are vegetarians and had specifically mentioned rice without eggs but it still came with eggs. And the server was not even apologetic about it. Will never go back to this restaurant"

  • "Lunch prize fixe is awesome for $28. Included a sorbet palette cleanser... no joke. Imagine Art Deco decor, business lunch crowd, pink cushy sofa chairs and fancy dishes and silverware. Ma Paul tofu was fabulous, as were the dumplings and green tea ice cream. And of course... top it off with a hurried, abrupt, but tender-hearted Chinese waiter in a tux!"

  • "Very nice decor and ambience. The tables were set Beautifully and everything had its own purpose. Even The rice came in a nice golden food dome. The Server was absolutely flawless. The food and wine was awesome. Definitely a place To remember and come back to."

  • "Food and service in this restaurant is always superior. The Art Deco ambiance makes it one of the most attractive restaurants in New York."

  • "Excellent presentation and tasty meal; seated immediately and not rushed."

  • "Hadn't been here is some time and glad I returned. Lovely, elegant restaurant with impeccable service. Like a flashback to a more refined time. Unlike any other upscale Chinese restaurant in ambiance and presentation. Not trying to be super hip (despite it's clientele). Just plain super. Food beautifully prepared and presented. You could actually taste the components of the meal, not just the seasonings. Surprised it wasn't more crowded, since it was RW, but that allowed us to really appreciate our experience. There is a regular prix fixe menu and lots of superb choices. Lunch crowd had lots of suits. Not surprising, given the location. Go and enjoy. You can't go wrong."

  • "This is a Chinese restaurant from a different time and place.... very elegant and old fashioned and NOT Chinatown! It is more about the elegant atmosphere than the best Chinese food."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Very disappointed in what I felt was an overpriced selection of Chinese food no better than the local restaurants I get my take out food from... Additionally, they have a Prix Fix dinner option on their main menu for under $50.00 which was interesting but when I asked for it I was told it was not available due to special Chinese New Year Prix Fix which was $30.00 more per person... Are you kidding??? Service was just so so and food average. Will certainly be the first and last time I attend as Mr. K's struck out in my opinion"

  • "Spring rolls quite good. Triple Delight (chicken, beef, and shrimp with broccoli healthy but bland). Beef was chewy. Outstanding service. Popular for business lunches."

  • "This is the second time we have dined here and will do so again when we next visit NY. The food is great, the service impeccable and the ambience of the art deco surroundings conducive to a splendid dining experience. We also had to change our reservation at the last moment for the following day and they were very understanding. A particularly nice touch is that the ladies are given a corsage"

  • "I was recommended to visit this restaurant by the concierge at the Waldorf Astoria. The food was very good and the service was friends. My only comment is that the ambiance was a bit dated. It looked very 80's and could use some updating. I would recommend this location to others staying in the area."

  • "It was my mother's birthday and we went on New Year's day to celebrate. The waiter was rude to us at every turn. He slickly tried to pull a fast one over on us by pushing an appetizer dish for $16.95 a pop instead of the a la carte option. We eventually prevailed after calling him back to our table and fighting with him to change the order. When we tried to order the regular Prix Fix dinner in the menu, he told us a more expensive option was the only one available. I asked him why he didn't let us know in the first place and he said: You didn't ask. Our entrees arrived and each order had the same issue: they were all too salty. My parents are old with hypertension. We have our suspicions. We will never eat there again."

  • "Been to this restaurant before but this is the first time that I received this Kind of a slow service. Food was cool when it came out. Even the Peking duck was cold. Or else food taste good. We dine for New Year's Day Dinner and everybody was hungry. Overall very disappointed."

  • "Having moved away from New York almost 10 years ago my wife and I cherish the time back in the city to visit family. Mr. K's has become the family dining room for most of our holiday celebrations and this Christmas was no exception. The staff now knows and remembers us each time we come back and they even give us 'our' table when we come for dinner. The food is always fantastic and the staff courteous, fun and entertaining. A GREAT experience!"

  • "Since it was a special occasion, when I learned I could order personalized chopsticks. I e-mailed them on two occasions to ask questions and then spoke on the phone to Samantha, who confirmed the order, spelled out my daughter's name with me to make sure it would be accurate, and said the chopsticks would be ready in time for our visit. That evening, the chopsticks were never "presented" as promised '.As far as the rest of the experience: the room is lovely, the booth was comfortable and quiet, the service was attentive and there were some elegant touches. Unfortunately, the food was bland and unimpressive, the chicken satay was tasteless, and the vegetables in the three main dishes we ordered were room temperature. Never again."

  • "every time i come to New York I eat at this restaurant, but this time the experience was fair. especially the peking duck,as i always ordered but on this ocasión the presentation looked as mexican burrito instead. its a very expensive plate and now consist of one huge pancake stuffed with duck that you have to eat it with your hand, just like a burrito. i cannot recommend anymore this place."

  • "Don't get to dine here very often, but when we do, it never disappoints. The food, ambiance and service is perfect. It's a bit pricey, but surely for a special occasion, worth it all."

  • "The food was overprice and merely OK. Better than the bad American Chinese in most towns, but certainly not up to par for their space, price and perceived reputation. The crispy duck was dry and the garlic shrimp was bland. Unless you have an inside line to more authentic and tasty specialty dishes, if they even exist, I would steer clear. Also, as is also the case with many Asian restaurants, the only wine by the glass were unspecified California varietals. Why distributors haven't stepped in to fill in these gaps is beyond us. It's not that hard to have a decent wine list."

  • "We are not used to white table cloth Chinese restaurants. The restaurant itself is a delight, quiet for conversation, good service by well groomed staff. We enjoyed a quiet evening at the end of a celebratory day. The food, however, was not up to the price or ambiance. We shared two main dishes (one vegetarian, one meat), and an appetizer. In additional we both had a cocktail. The bill including tip and tax was $130. The food was beautifully presented and the plates divided by the kitchen. Unfortunately the food was bland, not quite tasteless but certainly not delicious or special. For that price, it should have been."

  • "Beautiful ambiance, great service, quiet dining area. The hot & sour soup was delicious (very spicy) as was my friends' seafood soup. Our entrees however were mostly bland and they lacked flavor. My friend order the basil & garlic chicken. The chicken in the dish was breaded (which was not mentioned in the menu) and she claimed the dish was okay. I got the rainbow chicken which had julienned chicken breast with vegetables. While very well done (fresh veggies and nicely cooked chicken) my dish was also bland. My other friend however got the curry chicken which she loved and ate the entire plate. Next time I would choose wisely which dish I picked and ask the waiters for recommendations. Overall 3/5 stars. Otherwise was a lovely restaurant."

  • "Went for dinner on a Friday at 6:30- I guess that's early enough that it was not crowded yet, but not so empty it felt dead. We were seated right away and the service was very good at every step of the way- hostess, coat check, wait staff. Food was all very good. We ordered a whole Peking Duck, and it was ready with no waiting and nicely presented and served, as well as being crispy and juicy. The room is comfortable and stylish and IMHO not over the top. Not cheap, but seemed like good value for the food / service / ambiance in Manhattan. Would definitely go back."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants, good food , nice ambience and noise level low enough so you can talk to your companion or guest without having to scream. It is not your usual Chinese place, ambience is very nice, Art Deco style. Service is always friendly and efficient."

  • "Went out with my two boys we shared three dishes Lo Mein. Fried Rice, Chicken Macadamia. We ordered two sodas and a glass of wine, ice cream and coffee. $120 dollars. Loved the service food was good. Not a place for kids Would reccommend for adults"

  • "This is the first time OpenTable reviews have steered me wrong - the food at Mr. K's was absolutely horrendous...I could get way better at my local take-out place! The decor is grand if a little dated and the fact that all these celebrities have dined there in the past seems impressive at first, but authentic this place is definitely NOT. Service is almost as bad as any run of the mill Chinatown establishment - and the prices are through the roof! I don't know how this place is still in business, I really don't!!"
