  • "I can not tell you how many times we eat here. But it is the go to place to eat when I want to have someone get a great meal. Service is great ."

  • "Great food, great friends and don't miss out on Friday's lunch."

  • "I reserved a table online with special instructions for cocktails to be at the table, a bottle of champagne etc. It was all ready when I arrived. They even put confetti down on the table for a special occasion. Our server and his SA were phenomenal. I warned them we may camp out but we would take care of them, and they were very pleasant. Not too chatty, but always around when we needed something. The steaks are always cooked to perfection and their side items are continuously above the bar. It was a great experience. I have been plenty of times before and will continue to go back."

  • "I'm a frequent patron of Mr. John's and Friday night was a very good example of what they do well. Daughter's birthday, brought in a cake and bottle of champagne. No fuss, no drama, everything was handled very capably by Tony and Aaron our waiters. During a Lenten Friday instead of the Italian meatball that they offer to start off their meals they offered a fried tortellini in a creamy seafood sauce which was delicious. Kids ordered the fried calamari infiltrated by a tasty marina sauce. Small Caesars were served with delicious croutons. The steak count was 3 ribeyes and a filet mignon (part of the surf and turf). Served perfectly done in sizzling butter. Lump crabmeat was fresh and bountiful. . Perfect evening to celebrate a sweet 16th."

  • "Food was great, service was spot on. The resturant is very loud due to the tile floor and surrounding walls. Bring your shouting voice."

  • "My favorite steak cut has always been a filet so when the waiter explained that the sirloin was the House Special, i was leary but wanted to eat what the restaurant is known for, particularly since this was my first visit. It was outstanding, and I now am converted."

  • "My wife and I chose Mr. John's for our anniversary dinner this weekend, as we had heard that since DV acquired it good things have been happening. We would have chosen Ruth's Chris, but we wanted to branch out a bit. It was perfectly fine, but nothing spectacular. We had the fried green tomato appetizer, which was good, steaks were cooked nearly perfectly, and the sides were tasty. Our server was attentive and helpful, and aside from leaving our wine glasses empty a bit too long, had no miscues. But overall, my impression was that it just didn't get to the level Ruth's achieves, although it makes a good effort. The construction outside makes it easy to miss, too, and dampens the otherwise nice view outside."

  • "OMG. Best steak in the South. Don't walk, run. Now. Just wear your earplugs. The tile floors and wood panelling combined with some happy customers makes the dining room very, very loud."

  • "The food and service was outstanding. My wife and I went to New Orleans for a little getaway and we heard several good things about Mr Johns. After we finished eating we both looked at each other and said that was the be food ever, no just the best steak, but the best restaurant food every. I would highly recommend for anyone who is looking for good food, good service, and great atmosphere."

  • "I had heard good things about Mr. John's, so for my mother's 83rd birthday 8 family members went to Mr. John's for dinner. Everything was excellent. The food was to everyone's liking, the portions were more than adequate and the presentation and service was spot on. Our table had a variety of dishes including, Lobster, Cowboy Ribeye, Pork belly app, thick Filets, Strip Steaks, turtle soup, a fried green tomato w/ lump crabmeat appetizer that was the size of an entrée, a nice bottle of wine and mixed cocktails. It was fine dining at it's best. There is no doubt about it, we'll be back!!"

  • "Double date night with friends of ours ... had heard of Mr. John's and were not disappointed. Food was as good, if not better, than we had been told (the andouille and crawfish mac and cheese - unbelievable!). Service was great ... respectful and attentive, but not a helicopter. Only cause for pause was the noise level ... not enough to register a complaint, but more than expected and enough to consider when going again and/or inviting someone."

  • "I have been to the restaurant several times and always enjoyed the steaks. I had the fish dish and it was excellent, howver my companion had the veal chop and it was very tough. May have just been an off night."

  • "Nice venue after tiring of creole, oysters, etc. Filet full of flavor, but cooked to medium, rather the requested medium rare. Service was fine. Wine menu good. While 8:30 PM reservations were somewhat late for a Friday, I was still surprised not to see more people dining. Ambiance was not that of Morton's or Capital Grille, but the fare was as good, if not better. I would go again."

  • "Great location on St. Charles Avenue close to downtown Atmosphere of a neighborhood classic bistro/steakhouse, not too large but rather quaint and charming. Very pleasant waiter, service was excellent. All courses of our meal were delicious- from a tasty shrimp remoulade, to a delicious salad to an amazing steak for two. The selection of sauces to accompany your steak for that extra savory taste along with the delicious garlic bread make the steakhouse experience fabulous. My personal favorite was the sweet potato mash that beats all other steakhouse sweet potato sides. Dessert was also very good. Overall an excellent experience in a traditional steakhouse that feels quaint and special with delicious food."

  • "30th Anniversary dinner for two couples. We all found food just as wonderful as Ruth Chris. But, what I would really like to comment on is the service, which was absolutely outstanding.I had mentioned in OT res. that we would be celebrating our 30th! They greeted us with very sincere Congrats! Wait staff all very friendly but, also professional. To our surprise, we were soon served an appetizer compliments of the house. Water drinks refilled/replenished,table crumbs whisked away between courses.Don't think I have ever been served such a sizzling hot plate! Entree plates maybe but, vegetable dishes were sizzling as well. Excellent! Mgr stopped by twice-once to congratulate and again to make sure all prepared as requested. Will definitely go back!"

  • "I have had dinner at Mr John's twice in the last couple months. Both times were to celebrate Birthdays. The first was a party of 12, the second a party of four. The staff handled both with ease. The steaks were amazing! So tender you barely needed a knife to cut them."

  • "Due to this resturant being along the parade route was a little hard to access from location we were staying but with a little effort was able to navigate."

  • "My husband and I dined at Mr. John's Steakhouse for our anniversary. We made reservations online and showed up at the restaurant about15 minutes. They immediately sat us at a table, even though we were early. We ordered the fried green tomatoes that and they were delicious! We asked to split the house salad. The salads came already split on individual plates and each of us had our choice of dressing, even though we were splitting a salad. My husband ordered a steak and I ordered the petite filet and lobster with a side of macaroni. Both of our entrées amen out at the same time, hit and fresh. The food was excellent! The lobster better than Dragos and the steak better than Ruth's Cris. The service we received made our night out special!"

  • "This steakhouse is absolutely, hands-down THE best steakhouse south of the Mason-Dixon line! The only other steakhouse I've been to that is on par - perhaps slightly better - is Peter Luger's NYC. I would take either as my last meal on earth!"

  • "Seven of us went to dinner at Mr. John's. We are all very particular and critical. We all found this place to be EXCELLENT. All of our dishes ordered by Seven Fussy People were delicious. Appetizers included onion rings, mushroom caps stuff with sausage, crab, and cheese, and onion soup. The two people who had the onion soup said it was the best they ever had. We ordered two rib-eye for two with bone in. New York strip was ordered as was sea bass. We all raved about dishes! It was a high point of our eating experiences in the New Orleans. Portions were excellent and food preparation superior. Seven Fussy People could not been happier!"

  • "One of the diners has a gluten allergy and the restaurant greatly accommodated his dietary restrictions. I simply made a note when making the reservation and they were ready to serve him accordingly. The food is always consistent and very, very good. Can't wait to dine there again."

  • "We discovered this place while on vacation in 2013 and made a note to return to it. It was so good we selected it as the place to celebrate a special birthday with friends when we returned in 2014. It didn't disappoint us. Service is excellent but not stuffy as in some other highly rated places in NO. The food is top notch and when we mentioned that we were celebrating a special birthday they served us a bread pudding desert with a small candle. The whole evening was a great treat."

  • "By far the best steak in NOLA and ranks right up there among the top that I have been to. The NY Strip is to die for lots of flavor! I always have steak when at Mr Johns however this time I ordered a side of Pasta (it does serve italian) and that also was delecious. It's a great place!"

  • "My wife and I dined here for my birthday/Valentines Day. To say the restaurant was full, service was great. Our two waiters were very attentive. My ribeye was cooked exactly as I ordered and served on a sizzling butter plate. My wife's Lobster pasta was also delicious. Appetizers and deserts were also great."

  • "My husband and I had always wanted to eat here. It is located just 3 blocks from our house. Knowing I couldn't get reservations for Valentine's Day, I made reservations for the 15th. We were greeted by a charming host. The wait staff couldn't have been more helpful. My husband, who had a bad cold, wasn't up to enjoying a bottle of wine so the waiter suggested a Pinot Grigio for me. It was very good. I enjoyed it. The steaks were done to perfection. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would return."

  • "We went to dinner at Mr Johns for our wedding anniversary. This our third time going there for dinner on special occasions. I think they serve the best steak in the city."

  • "The food was ok - nothing special and did not live up to our expectations. The atmosphere was loud & crowded. To use the restroom, diners had to go through the food preparation area of the kitchen. From the reaction of the food staff, this was not an unusual event. There are so many excellent restaurants in New Orleans - this was not one of them."

  • "An early Valentine's Day treat! My wife and I drive into the city to try Mr. John's - a place we've always heard about but had never tried. It was an awesome experience. Valet parking was available right at the front door and we were given a great corner table overlooking St. Charles Avenue. Our waiter, Gindy, was simply fantastic. He gave us solid menu suggestions but gave us room to breathe and enjoy. The BBQ Shrimp appetizer was agonizingly good as were the salads. The steaks were perfectly prepared. But the highlight of the night was the Andouille Crawfish Mac-n-Cheese. Every detail, down to the coffee service, was taken into consideration. These folks clearly take great pride in their reputation and it shows. Thanks!"
