We were even thinking about cancelling our reservation. But it was a wonderful surprise! The service was great, very kind and attentive. And the food just made our trip. The menu was exceptional and the food was excellent, to say the least! The servers were attentive, prompt, and all around quite outstanding. The service was absolutely wonderful, especially our waiter.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe brought two $85 bottlesWe brought two $85 bottles of wine with us.the corkage fee was $25 per bottle,which is alittle high.We ordered a bottle from there wine list and drank that first.the waiter opened our bottles and poured the first one to drink with the appetizers.He then knocked over the bottle with half the wine in it and also knocked over two of the glasses of wine all over one of our guest at the table !!! It was a big mess.We had to remove everthing from our table so they could change our table cloth.They did replace the crabcake it ruined.They waived one of the $25 corkage fees.But did not replace the spilled $85 bottle that we brought ! Great service! Our waiter was very attentive, but not intrusive. He made a wonderful wine selection. (I wish I could remember his name, but do remember he is originally from Egypt.) I had the petit filet, which was cooked perfectly. The table shared a few sides (mushrooms, asparagus, and potatoes), which were more than enough for all. In a city known for great food, you have to be on top of your game and Mr Johns is right on top every time. Taste, presentation, wait staff, ambience, all near perfection. Order the New York Strip (cooked no more than medium). Everything here is delectable. The only other steakhouse, as far as quality goes anyways, that I can compare Mr. John's to is Peter Luger's.
Also, be sure to try their new sister restaurant, Desi Vega's Steakhouse. It's also on St. Charles, about 10 blocks away from Mr. John's. Their menu is almost identical but the decor of the restaurant is a little more vibrant and has that Miami feel.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe steaks are melt-in-your-mouthThe steaks are melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
