Diner Reviews
  • "Service barely ok, plates just put in front of you, no interaction or explanation, inattentive. Food is mediocre at best, I can't understand how people rate this food good in any way. A PF Chang chain or any restaurant in China Town is doing a way better job. Overpriced for the quality you receive. NO way I will go back there."

  • "Picked it for the RW menu, but ended up going with the standard menu instead. We got peking duck "semi prix fixe" that came with additional starters/mains. None of the apps or mains other than the duck really impressed - solid, but not outstanding. Not enough characters to list them here. Duck was fantastic, v crispy skin and tender meat. Service was decent (very attentive with water refills) but was not impressed with actual waitstaff (sent a dish in error to our table, made jokes that nobody understood, felt a little looked down on). Ambience is loud for sure - better for groups, not somewhere you can really have a decent conversation. Overall for $120/px after tax/tip (1 drink each) I wouldn't recommend unless someone else is paying."

  • "Terrible service prior to be waited on. Poor soft skills from the confirmation call to arrival!"

  • "Go here for the ambiance, before the food. You could get better food in China Town, but the crowd was great. The servers were very snobby, but that's what you get at a place like that."

  • "My friends and I came here for Restaurant Week and we enjoyed the menu. There was four of us so we got to taste everything on the menu which was awesome. The service was great and we never felt unattended to. Love this place and will definitely be back."

  • "The tables are too close on top of each other and it's too crowded. There is not enough space between you and the table next to you."

  • "Everything was great, but they stuck us at a bad table in the back when there were plenty of other open tables. You need to speak up I guess when being seated"

  • "But this time food was not so good seaweed was stale, satay was too salty. Plates were chipped. Service was sloppy. Like they didn't care. Spoke to manager & he took off cost of a coke from bill. I would have expected more from the manager & the restaurant. Truly it seemed like they couldn't be bothered.waste of time."

  • "The food and service was great. The wait staff catered to your every need and were very attentive. The flavors were so good. I had to be careful not to eat everything so fast. I will be back to celebrate my birthday here."

  • "Food was delicious. It is very expensive, but that's why you should take advantage of restaurant week, where you are paying substantially less for a good menu. I enjoyed it a lot. Would def recommend!"

  • "Save up those dollars before you go because although the food is okay you may wish you had just picked up a local take-away. This was not great value for money. Food and service was fine."

  • "I love Mr Chow's. From the moment you walk into the restaurant you feel welcome. Staff is amazing. Service impeccable. And the food is consistently delicious. I continue to go back again and again. Best duck ever!!"

  • "We where looking forward to Mr. Chow and saved it for a special ocassion. It was such a dissapointment. NOT worth the price. Pushy "maitre", underwhealming quality and portions. Unacceptable that there is no printed dessert menu. Lousy service. Snobby nouveau riche crowd."

  • "Great food. Really enjoyed what we had. Head waiter (we sat outside) was really helpful and informative about the menu. However, other waiters that brought the food to the table were not so! Food and cutlery was more dumped on the table, than placed. We were told what each dish was, as more of an after thought and with what seemed to be disinterest. And we had to ask for our wine when each time our glasses were empty. We actually felt we done something wrong! But all we did was arrive on time, chatted with the head waiter (really nice man) order our food and eat. Not really what you expect from an expensive restruant where staff wear suits and bow ties, and has a previously high rating. Such a shame."

  • "Always an incredible dining experience at Mr Chow. Be adventures and go for the chef's tasting menu because everything they bring to the table is delicious. The staff is fantastic and I promise you'll enjoy a lovely dinner!"

  • "The food and service is just outstanding. If you want a special dinner, you can't go wrong. Our only problem is that the Bejing Duck requires a minimum of three people--we wish we could order for two!"

  • "My daughter and I love, love, love this place! She absolutely said this is her favorite spot to go. The next outing we have we both said we would try and dine outside because this time it was so many people eating outside it looked very cool. Kudos to Mr. Chow!!"

  • "While dinner was a nice meal with good service, the price/value ratio was bad. Much better and well priced Chinese food available, albeit with less nice atmosphere and service."

  • "The food was mediocre. Your paying for the name. If you like people hovering over you and over priced Chinese this is the best place"

  • "From the time you enter Mr.Chows you feel so special , warm greetings , smiling maitre d and distinguished and courteous waiters dressed in tuxedos. Their menu has so much to choose from .If your the least bit unsure what to order the waiters are very helpful.. The apps and dinner we had was delicious to say the least .By the time leave the restaurant you will be smiling and feeling like ..(hey..I just dined at one of N.Y. s finest resturants...)Great place!!! • "We moved from the area 2 years ago but we love to come here. Good food friendly service one of the best restaurants downtown. Try to get a table outside. It's worth it."

  • "The waiters weren't waiters, they were used car salesmen. Got ripped off from the start on their drinks, didn't provide any sort of pricing, but suggested $35 glasses of champagne, for me to find on the bill later. Food was pretty much street meat and the waiters were aggressively pushing more on us. After about 40 minutes I was so annoyed that I just asked for the check and left. I will be calling my credit card company to dispute this charge if I don't get a full refund. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS CLASSLESS DUMP."

  • "Brought my sister (who is visiting NYC for the first time) here for dinner and we both loved it! Excellent service as always. Very attentive waiters, great Chinese food and our outdoor table on a perfect early evening made the whole experience special. My sis loved the crab and corn soup and I loved the gamblers duck! I love coming back to Mr Chow!"

  • "We had meat that was called "fillet" it was the most disgusting piece of meat ever and was $44. Never again..."

  • "This is one of our all time favorites. Even though this is a restaurant frequented by celebrities, the staff always greets us like family. The drunken fish is outstanding. The squab with lettuce leaves is a special treat. Thank you for consistently being better than good, and always friendly."

  • "Worried that Mr. Chow has lost a step. It wasn't nearly as good this time. Service was down and the food was really down."

  • "Left hungry and $200 lighter for slightly above average fare. Service is professional and attentive. Other than trying to impress someone that you can afford to pay handsomely for the same quality you'd get from a Chinese storefront restaurant, if you're hungry or looking for a meal that is commensurate with the price, this ain't the place to go. "

  • "We were very disappointed. It looked more like a fast food restaurant. Within the hour we were gone. When we ordered The appetizer it was there in 2 minuten?!? Food was nor that great and they smashed the plates on your table. If you want a Nice romantic diner, mr. Chow is NOT The place to be. "

  • "went a year ago to Mr. Chow at Miami. it waa amazing. tought that NY would be even better. poor quality food. lobster tasteles, horrible beef. very expensive considering the lack of food quality."

  • "Wow the Peking duck was amazing, service great. Had friends in from California, great choice. No bar to speak of for pre-dinner drinks, only a few seats, big flower pots in the way of standing or sitting. Stop in a local bar first then dinner. "

  • "As soon as we sat down we were almost swept into buying a $60 glass of champagne! Very pushy. The food was just ok.. Very bland. I was expecting a lot more flavor. My husband has been to me chows 3 times and loves it but he has gone in big groups where they order a bunch of things and they drink a lot "

  • "We enjoyed the friendly service, the excellent food, the nice artworks on the walls, and the ambiance of Mr Chow, Tribeca. Lobster was exceptional, the fillet mignon was delicious, the wine selection was rich, and for every budget. Overall, the price was high, but worth it."

  • "We had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for a while and it was a real let down. Instead of giving us menus the waiter told us he was going to pick what we were having and when I repeatedly asked to see the menu I was made feel as though I was being difficult. I have food allergies and was feeling a bit unwell so having someone else decide what I eat wasn't an option. I was again made feel awkward when I only wanted a main course and told that wasn't really how they did it. I insisted I would just have my main and he insisted on picking the food for everyone else. The food was poor. The portions were small and the food was not authentic Chinese. The meal was seriously overpriced with no value for money, very disappointing."

  • "I thought it would be similar to phillippe but it wasn't. I finished my food in 10 mins. It wasn't as much food as I expected. I felt like a kid eating that little bit of food. I expect it when it's filet mignon but not when it's this kind of food. I should have just went back to phillippe. The only difference is that the crowd is much younger at Phillippe which can be annoying as well"
