  • "Great location nestled in the back of the Malibu Country Mart, but not worth the overpriced food and lackluster ambiance. Save your money!!"

  • "The food was bland, service was mediocre. We had a $380 dinner for party of 4 with only one drink each and felt dupped. What a bunch of hype. I've eaten at many nice restaurants and never walked out feeling like this."

  • "Mr. Chow's Malibu does everything right! Great experience! Great food! Perfect martini! Too bad it's in a shopping strip, but, they do wonders with their space! Totally enjoyed ourselves!"

  • "Food is always delicious Brian always takes care of me love seeing him there makes me feel like I'm at chows on 57th street NYC. Staff is great and always welcoming."

  • "I loved this restaurant. The decor has such simple elegance, and the food is delicious. I recommend adding a dab of the chili sauce to the walnut prawns for a sweet and spicy flavor sensation."

  • "Everything we tried was fantastic. Best chicken I've ever had at a chinese restaurant. Black pepper lobster was amazing. Loved Mr chows noodles. Had a cocktail called white sand with sake, lime and agave. Amazing had three of them. Service was outstanding. Roger was there for us from when we arrived all the way through and gave great recommendations every step of our meal. Hip hip hurray!"

  • "My boyfriend and I frequent Mr. Chow often and every time it's absolutely amazing. Yes, it's pricy but the experience itself is absolutely worth it. I say experience because they do things differently that most restaurants. A team of people all with different responsibilities work closely together to service your table. It's highly efficient and results in spectacular service. I'm a lactose intolerant vegetarian and there are tons of options for me! Everything is share style, however you could order for yourself. I would highly suggest this restaurant! Tip: go during the week when the restaurant is not busy. Also, eat outside! It never gets too cold out there. "

  • "Don't let the seemingly formal ambiance fool you - Mr. Chow's is very friendly and now offers a bar menu (and a tv - yeah). While the food is definitely expensive, the taste of every item is amazing and servings are ample. Take your time to order and you will not be disappointed. "

  • "Tucked away in the back of cross creek, Mr. Chows is always a dreamy dining experience. Nowhere in Malibu, not Nobu, definitely not Nikita will you find such a fun, charming and exceptionally trained staff. The food is simply perfect, the silver champagne cart exquisite... The staff is clearly pleased to present to you their amazing cuisine. All white right down to the white orchids on the table, lit and glowing from underneath, to the HUGE bouquet of fragrant Casablanca Lillie's the ambiance is one of a clean white cloud. Intimate fine dinning that is somehow yet not stuffy or intimidating. "Gamblers Peking duck", scallops on the half shell, lobster vermicelli... You just can't go wrong. Go to Mr. Chows it is simply wonderful wonderful!"

  • "After reading YELP reviews, my expectations for Mr.Chow's Malibu outpost were low at best. Notwithstanding, the comment about getting food just as good for half the cost in the San Gabriel Valley. Apples and oranges. Go to Panda Express if your dining experience is based on cost alone. We arrived around 6PM on Friday and no one was there until 7PM, so my impression of the noise level may be flawed. The service was excellent. The ambiance was bright inside, romantic outside. I loved that they had 8 champagnes at various price points available by the glass. Of the 8 family-style dishes we tried, 2 were duds, 2 were average and 4 were fabulous. I was glad to have gone with 4 people so that we could sample much of the menu. Overall: A+"

  • "Food was good but too expensive for the extremely small portions served. We had to wait approximately 15-20mn to be seated, even with a reservation via open table. After being seated, had to wait another 10-15mn to get a menu (?) I kept asking anyone working who passed the table, each one would say wait for the Mater D who sat us. When he finally came back to the table, he had the menus with him, but appeared very annoyed I ask others for a menu (?) very weird experience! There were no waiters per table, just the mater D??? However, lot's of Bus boys & other's working, but they didn't have authority to wait tables, get a menu or take an order? I'll Never go back there!!!"

  • "I am a frequent Mr Chow diner in London, New York and Beverly Hills and this was the very first time I visited Mr Chow in Malibu. I can truly say that Mr Chow in Malibu is at least as good as its older colleague restaurants in every respect. As a matter of fact I would rate this restaurant as the leader of the pack when it comes to the service and possibly the food as well. The only odd thing we noticed was that the number of dinner guests this evening was unexpectedly low, but it could possibly be explained by the fact that it was the night of the Oscars in downtown LA, and it meant that the service level for the few guests in the restaurant most likely peaked this evening."

  • "I booked a reservation for Valentine's Day for 9pm. The place was not busy at all and now I know why. My wife and I were very disappointed in the food and particularly the service. They sat us down right away but it took asking 3 times to get a menu. It was a price fixed menu for the night, which was fine, but for the quality of food and service, it was WAY over priced. We had expected perfection and found this place to be lacking in so much, we will likely not return, which is why i couldn't make any type of recommendation for anyone else. And then we had to ask for refills of our drinks multiple times before they came as well as for the ultimate check. Just unbelievable. And they weren't even busy!"

  • "The dining experience at Mr. Chow was simply incredible. The waiter was amazing, the food was decadent, the ambience was visually pleasing and the overall experience was great. My only gripe is I wish the drinks were stronger. I had about five old fashions before i started feeling a buzz. Now dining at a place like this you have to expect the bill to be rather pricey so this is not a "let's just go out on a Friday" place this is an occasion restaurant. Valentine's Day 2/14/14 at Mr. Chow was amazing, the prix fixe menu had impeccable choices and the desert was okay."

  • "We've been wanting to try this since we have yet to find great Chinese food in the South Bay. The food portions were small for family style but the price was expensive. There was nothing exciting about the taste. The drinks were watered down (I had 3, didn't even notice). I think that if you want to see and be seen, then this is the place. If you're looking for great Chinese, try elsewhere. Service, however was outstanding."

  • "My wife and I enjoy fine dining frequently...and we often eat in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and Malibu. We thought we'd try Mr. Chow for Valentine's Day. The service was great...super-friendly and attentive. The lobster meat, however, was loaded with pieces of shell, the "duck" was very gamey", the vegetables were so undercooked that we couldn't effectively chew and swallow them. My apologies for the overly-graphic review...but I wanted to accurately convey our experience. Plus, we were surprised to be offered only a limited menu for Valentine's day...we don't like being restricted to only certain food choices...so we felt as if we were forced into an assembly line."

  • "It was Monday night, not crowded so noise level was moderate (I assume it could get quite loud inside). We succumbed to the prix fixe at $62 per person. Food was very interesting, excellent quality, but I didn't love everything. The Crab with egg white was too bland for me and Mr. Chow's noodles were just ok. Loved the prawns with walnuts and the gambei dish. If I went again, I would order appetizers and maybe one main dish."

  • "We have been to the Mr. Chow in BH and I have to admit I hated it. The food was good but the staff and service were, at their best snotty and at their worst down right rude! We waited an hour and a half past our reservation and were treated like second class citizens. So when my wife said we're going to Mr. Chow Malibu I was prepared for the same treatment and was pleasantly surprised. It was quite, almost empty, the staff over all was nice (still a bit snotty but attentive) and the food was excellent. So if you just want a good meal at this hi end Chinese place and don't want to deal with crowds or attitudes then make your way out to Malibu."

  • "We went to Mr. Chow for the first time & really liked the ambiance; it was elegant, uncluttered and pleasing to all the senses. The staff was extraordinary: friendly, extremely attentive, prompt and efficient without being at all obtrusive. While everything we ate was of the highest quality, very fresh and pleasing to the eye, some of the dishes were excellent and others did not excite us at all. Mr. Chow's noodles were good, especially with the house made chili sauce, but nothing special. The same is true for the fried rice and the orange beef, while tasty, was so thinly shredded prior to being breaded and cooked that one really couldn't taste the beef at all. The Gambler's Duck, lobster shumai and prawn toast on the other hand were superb!"

  • "Always a nice welcome at the door and seated right away The service is efficient and friendly, the food comes up to one's expectation, very consistent and delicious Pricewise : the fixed menu ( $55) is a great deal Overall a lovely experience each time we go there corinne"

  • "Although we had reservation (did it a week in advance) but we were sat next to the kitchen because that was the only table they had for 2. There were only one lady server for the entire guests who would take your orders for drink and food (but she had 2 helpers for a group of tables). So you can imagine the wait time for her to get to your orders for a busy Saturday night. Our orders took a long time to get to our table, and not all at the same time either. The food was less than ordinary, like a Chinese food in a mall "food court" but 20 times more expensive. They even forgot to bring our coffees together and the desert showed up when we were done with our coffees. Final advise, don't waste your time at Mr. Chow..!!!"

  • "Been wanting to try Mr. Chow's forever and had the opportunity during Restaurant Week. Great prix fix menu ($45/pp) which gave our table a sample of all of the signature dishes. The only one I didn't like was the shrimp bc you had to peel the shell (yuck), but it tasted delicious. Waiter were attentive and adorable. Very nice decor and atmosphere in Malibu."

  • "Good dishes and professional service. For a restaurant seeking to be top caliber, they need to seriously improve their sound system (it is the worst of any restaurant I've ever been in). We like a lively restaurant but between the music and all the mirrored surfaces in the restaurant, the resulting noise level made it difficult to hold a conversation. We expect to go home a bit hoarse and with ours ears ringing from a concert - not a restaurant. That being said, for the quality of the food and overall experience it is WAY too expensive. We don't mind paying top dollar for a great restaurant (such as Asanebo), but paying over $120 per person for a party of four was excessive for good (not great) food and questionable atmosphere."

  • "As a vegetarian (no meat, no fish), I struggle to find good Chinese food. But, this place was very good. I went for New Years, which had a pre-fix menu. The veggie appetizer options - Tofu Skin Roll and main course were very good. The ambience is modern and stylish. Since I went at night, I could not tell if you could see the beach from the restaurant, but it is only a block away from PCH. The service was awesome, attentive, yet, they will give you your space. The prefix menu did not include a vegetarian option, but they took care of that for me. I will certainly go back to try more veggie options on the menu. My husband loved the spice pork chilli dish, which was recommended by our head waiter."

  • "they have a pre fix where you pick options and it's a perfect way to enjoy their fantastic food. my only gripe is the $62.00 per person price which could include beef and lobster shouldn't be the same price if you're eating vegetarian"

  • "Mr. Chow's is one of the best restaurants in Southern California. I'm so happy they have one in Malibu now. If you live paparazzi, by all means, go to the one in Beverly Hills. If you just want amazing delectable food, superb service and intimate dining, then go to Malibu!!! It's just plain fabulous!!! My favorite way to order is to just let them bring you whatever they think you'd like. Let them surprise you! Your taste buds will be happy! It's pricey, but worth every penny! If you order a la carte, and just a few dishes, you can keep the price down. I like dressing up, but they don't require it. It's a neighborhood restaurant, a special occasion, and anything else you care to lable it. Just go and enjoy!!!!"
