  • The best way to describe Mr.
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 2/3/2010
The best way to describe Mr. Chow is, a restaurant serving non-offensive Chinese-like fushion-ish food. The food is neither here for there, yet people still pack the restaurant every day of the week. That part I don't get. The menu is not that extensive and even the "must have" famous Mr Chow noodles were unimpressive. It was basically spaghetti and meat sauce. We had the priced fixed menu: Mr Chow noodles, Chicken Satay, Filet Mignon, Shrimp and for desssert the very non-Asian sorbet. The most Asian/Chinese of all the dishes was the Shrimp, think a really tasty sweet and sour shrimp. Pricy for sure, but not worth a repeat so soon.

  • Went with a group for LA Restaurant

Went with a group for LA Restaurant week. The restaurant was busy,we had the option to be seated immediately in the ante room, or wait for the main restaurant. We decided to wait & were really pleased that we did; as our final table was great!! The menu is extensive, but they have designed all the dishes to be family style so you can share. We opted for the LA Restaurant week option, which had a fantastic selection of food, beautifully served & a perfect combination. Our waiter was great & made sure that anything we needed was provided promptly & without fuss. It's known as a celeb hangout, but the service we received suggests all clientele are important to them, which makes a pleasant change. We're all planning to go back!!!

when we actually got to sit down, everything was perfect. Food was good, waiter was great (happy and smiling the WHOLE time) and the atmosphere was good. But before that wasnt so great. We had reservations at 730pm but we didnt sit down til 830. Whats the point of a reservation if we have to wait for an hour?? Seems like several reservation were backed up that night. Because everyone was waiting in front of the door, which made it super crowded up front.

We were greeted very energetically and quickly seated. Tables were very close though and the noise level escalated as the restaurant filled. The table next to us was seated after us but their order was taken before ours. Other than that the service was very attentive even for DineLA week. The infamous noodles were bland but after adding the red pepper sauce they were perfect. The Ma Mignon was excellent, cooked perfectly and nicely seasoned. The shrimp dish offered on the DineLA menu was excellent. The trio of ice creams and sorbets were both great, I didn't care for the green tea ice cream. Overall great dining experience. My only complaint is that the valet couldn't be bothered to move my car and just walked us to the car. Really?

Most attention goes to regulars and there are many of these. Service for newbies was spotty to poor. A bit of an attitude too. Food was good but not to die for. But it's been there for ages so something is right.

Overrated and overpriced Chinese/Cantonese cuisine with small portions.Waited 25 min. to be seated WITH an OpenTable reservation.Staff is quite pushy about ordering drinks-2 busboys came by to ask about drinks. Our waiter Dario, said that EVERYONE at the table must order the DineLA menu,it can't be just 1 person. His attitude was very unprofessional and frankly, rude. It was 10 minutes before he came back to take our order, came by 1 time to ask how we were doing and never came to see if we were ready for the check.Unacceptable to have such poor service at this caliber restaurant. The GM should check on the service of his staff, particularly,Dario. If his attitude represents the restaurant, then they fail with an F.Spend your money elsewhere.

I found the food to be uninspired. There is a lot of production going on here. From the moment you pull up to the valet (one per door, with white coats), through the entire meal. The place is packed so tightly, that they have to pull the table out so that your companion can sit on the booth style seat. The tables are so close that you can participate in the adjacent table's conversation. The food is fair and overpriced. I liked the theatrics and the production more than the food. This is a place to be seen. I do not intend to revisit this restaurant.

We had an 8PM reservation on a Wednesday. We arrived at 8 and were not seated until 8:45. We were seated in the main dining room, where the tables were so close together the waiter has to pull out the table so you can get to the inside seat. I usually like more privacy, but it was loud enough that you can't here neighboring conversations. After being seated, it took another 15 min to get menus. After ordering, the experience was fine. The food was above average, though lacking any presentation, and food service was good. Overall, I don't plan on going back. There are plenty of restaurants in the area with better food and a more hospitable attitude towards its customers.

After a brief mix-up with the reservation, I was seated close to an hour after arriving; Meanwhile, I was seeing folks arriving later than me being seated earlier. This set the tone for the evening and while the food was good, I wouldn't go here again simply because I don't want to be treated in this manner anywhere, especially when I'm paying.

Mr. Chow lives up to the hype. That said, be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for a table, even if you have a reservation. Once seated, the meal and service will exceed expectations. Unless you're a picky eater, I recommend ordering the prix fixe menu, and letting the chef choose selections based upon your personal preferences.

Mr. Chow is one block off of Rodeo Drive, and that's what you're paying for. The food is mediocre at best. The service was prompt and polite. The charge for refills on soft drinks ($4/per drink). Celebrities are known to frequent Mr. Chow, which suggests that celebs with lots of money don't mind spending it on bad food. I would not go back.

I had higher expectations of this beverly hills "hot spot". The food is basically overpriced Chinese, not bad but also not great for the high prices. The restaurant is also pretty tiny, so small that they have to pull out the table in order for guests to squeeze into one of the seats. The service is excellent, but doesn't really make up for the average food. They do make excellent cocktails though. Would probably only go back for one of their special events.

The overall dining experience was very good. The wait staff converged on the table so quickly, it almost felt like an Indy pit stop which made me feel somewhat rushed. This was mitigated by the friendly, helpful service we received. I suggest going with the “Mr. Chows” menu selection which is chefs choice serviced family style for the table. This option opens the diner to trying new dishes but still rule out any specific foods or ingredients. If you want to go to a trendy spot with great food and potential “who ’s who” fellow diners, this is the place.

The food was delicious, but I would not pay $75/person for it; not even close. Way overpriced. On the upside the service is amazing and the experience is very good. The food at Mr. Chow's is alway extraordinary. HOWEVER....we had a 7:30 rsvn and were not seated until 8:30. It was 9pm before we saw our first bite of food and they forgot to serve one order...our fish course. Waiting was cramped although the Lychee martini and the Cosmo the women had were the BEST EVER! The Johnny Walker Blacks ordered by the men were Jack Daniels because even the bartender could not hear. He apologetically replace them. As for the scene....well, there was so much collagen, botox and silicon in the waiting area it was like being in a Star Wars scene. If you want fabulous martinis, a scene and good food....muster on! As for us, we will probably stick with lunch.
