I remember wonderful festive dinners at Mr. Chow. Saturday night was so noisy we could not hear each other at the table and the food was delivered so fast that it felt like they wanted us out. It was expensive, the food ok, felt rushed and we has to sceam to hear each other. Not going back.

We came here because we have great memories of the LA location several years ago. The food was very very good. The service though put a bit of a damper on it. Our res was for 6 because we have a young child. We called when we were still standing outside at 6:05 with the doors locked. They just hadn't gotten around to opening up yet. No apologies.

I brought a few employees to NYC for a class, I had been to Mr Chows years ago. I wanted to treat them to a lovely dinner and that is exactly what we got! EVERY single food item we ordered was fabulous! All 4 of us were extremely impressed! The wait staff was attentive and fun! The whole experience was one of the best evers...anywhere!

My wife and I thought from the reviews that this would be special. Unfortunately the food what good but not great. Also, for the price the food should have been better. The noise level was very high and had to hold a conversation. The duck was overcooked and tough. The drunken fish was good but not good enough for the price

A classic...old school but still a hot spot...the uptown location has better food than the downtown location...and it is still a scene even if in need of a makeover! Its very '80s in decor but food is great you can go in a group or just as a couple...service is always great if you dont mind the waiter ordering for you...we love the flash fried seaweed and spicy noodles...and chicken satay...the crispy beef is great and the whole fish also...you will see everyone from rappers to politicians here...

Took my wife for her birthday and the food was great. The staff was amazing and even surprised her with a slice of cake and candle. They sang Happy Birthday to her and the experience was wonderful. The champagne is a little pricey so ask questions about champagne prices to avoid going into shock. Overal...Would definitely return.

Hi there, I was supposed to go to Mr. Chow's 57th street on Thursday 7.31, but when I got there the restaurant was closed... I got a confirmation email from Open Table and no email from the restaurant noting this. When I called the Tribeca location, they informed me there was a gas leak, but were not so accommodating on getting me into the restaurant. I was truly looking forward to this dinner, which was planned for months for my boyfriends birthday. It's unfortunate because I heard great things about the restaurant.

I'm not sure whether to be frustrated with Open Table or Mr. Chow. We made a reservation for 6:30 on 7/31, and when we arrived at the restaurant, there was a sign on the door that the 57th Street location was closed for building maintenance. We doubled checked everything, we had, in fact booked that venue for that day and time. No one bothered to let us know we needed to make other plans if we hoped to eat. I cannot imagine we were alone in being displaced—several other times were booked when I made my reservation. In the past, we've enjoyed dinner at Mr. Chow, but this experience will make me think twice before attempting to go back.

After having to wait 30 min after our reservation to get seated. The Wonan at the front have me the "one moment" finger when I asked how much longer for our table. Our servers were extremely nice. They deserved our lovely tip we left on the table for them. However, there was a woman who picked up the final draft of our bill who questioned if we were going to leave a tip because she saw that I didn't add the tip to my card. We pointed out that we left the tip in cash. Where do they do that at? Are we still questioning patrons about leaving a tip? The food was excellent but the ambiance was not appealing. It was something strait out of an 80's movie.

This is supposed to be an elegant place, and we were eager to try. But their approach to restaurant week was grudging verging on insolent. They rushed the food out. Some of the dishes were good, others indifferent. And for dessert, they slapped down a single plate with one scoop of bland ice cream and one of sorbet. There is no requirement to participate in Restaurant Week and if they resent it they should not play. Instead of turning us into excited new patrons, they turned us off.

Although portions are generous there's not much motivation to finish them as the food is not quite as good as my local takeout place. I was expecting innovative dishes with interesting combinations of spices and tastes. Not at all what we found. I'll never know what makes people think it's worth the gourmet prices for ordinary chow.

Seems a bit of a lottery as the restaurant seemed overbooked so don't come if you are in a hurry. The food was good however and good value relative to normal, given the restaurant week menu. I remember coming here when I was in college in the 80's and it was quite a scene back then. This place has endured and is now a classic! Love this place, the food is not heavy, portions are just right and is very elegant. Love it when the noodle maker comes out and puts on his show. The 80's music they play is also a lot of fun. The staff is very professional and friendly.

Had dinner at Mr. Chow's for my boyfriend's birthday. Perhaps because it was restaurant week, or perhaps it's always this way....our reservation was for 8pm but we weren't seated till 8:45. Once we were seated the wait staff were attentive and the food was delicious. As it was my boyfriend's birthday I had asked the waitress to include a candle when she brought out desert- needless to say they bought the desert sans candle. They did ultimately bring us a piece of cake with a candle and didn't charge us, but it did spoil the surprise My other caveat, Be sure to tell the waiter about your food allergies before ordering as they don't ask and not all the dishes ingredients are listed on the menu.

Unique dining experience. Food is great and slightly different than any Chinese food you have ever tasted. It's a festive atmosphere with its only major drawback is the noise level- it's hard to have a conversation even with your self let alone a companion. It's fascinating that for a Chinese restaurant none of the serving staff is Asian.
