  • "I reserved the restaurant for an after theatre dinner and when I get there the restaurant was closed because of construction/ maintenance in the building. And it has been closed for a while. How do you confirm a reservation to a closed restaurant? It spoiled my evening"

  • "Hi there, I was supposed to go to Mr. Chow's 57th street on Thursday 7.31, but when I got there the restaurant was closed... I got a confirmation email from Open Table and no email from the restaurant noting this. When I called the Tribeca location, they informed me there was a gas leak, but were not so accommodating on getting me into the restaurant. I was truly looking forward to this dinner, which was planned for months for my boyfriends birthday. It's unfortunate because I heard great things about the restaurant."

  • "I'm not sure whether to be frustrated with Open Table or Mr. Chow. We made a reservation for 6:30 on 7/31, and when we arrived at the restaurant, there was a sign on the door that the 57th Street location was closed for building maintenance. We doubled checked everything, we had, in fact booked that venue for that day and time. No one bothered to let us know we needed to make other plans if we hoped to eat. I cannot imagine we were alone in being displaced—several other times were booked when I made my reservation. In the past, we've enjoyed dinner at Mr. Chow, but this experience will make me think twice before attempting to go back."

  • "A little packed for a Wednesday but it was great. Great service, great atmosphere and most of all great food"

  • "The food here was really incredible, small portions, but so tasty!"

  • "Service was absolutely horrible. We had a 7pm reservation and did not sit until 9:28pm. What is the point of having a reservation? Food was just ok. The restaurant is overrated and I will not be going back."

  • "For 30+ years the food and atmosphere have been outstanding. It is a tribute to a great restaurant to ask to be part of NYC Restaurant Week. There is none better in Manhattan !"
    Dined on 7/28/2014
  • "The service was elegant. Food was delicious and unique, not your typical Asian cuisine. Several choices for a glass of champagne, which is hard to find without purchasing the whole bottle. Excellent experience."

  • "Great restaurant. The service, food, and ambience was impeccable. The fresh flowers were a nice touch."

  • "After having to wait 30 min after our reservation to get seated. The Wonan at the front have me the "one moment" finger when I asked how much longer for our table. Our servers were extremely nice. They deserved our lovely tip we left on the table for them. However, there was a woman who picked up the final draft of our bill who questioned if we were going to leave a tip because she saw that I didn't add the tip to my card. We pointed out that we left the tip in cash. Where do they do that at? Are we still questioning patrons about leaving a tip? The food was excellent but the ambiance was not appealing. It was something strait out of an 80's movie."

  • "This is supposed to be an elegant place, and we were eager to try. But their approach to restaurant week was grudging verging on insolent. They rushed the food out. Some of the dishes were good, others indifferent. And for dessert, they slapped down a single plate with one scoop of bland ice cream and one of sorbet. There is no requirement to participate in Restaurant Week and if they resent it they should not play. Instead of turning us into excited new patrons, they turned us off."

  • "Always a great dining experience at Mr. Chow. Prices reasonable for what you get. With 3 or more people get the Beijing duck dinner."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "Although portions are generous there's not much motivation to finish them as the food is not quite as good as my local takeout place. I was expecting innovative dishes with interesting combinations of spices and tastes. Not at all what we found. I'll never know what makes people think it's worth the gourmet prices for ordinary chow."

  • "Arrived for 8pm booking. Told to wait until partner arrived at the bar which was 10 minutes later. Didn't get seated till 9. Seems a bit of a lottery as the restaurant seemed overbooked so don't come if you are in a hurry. The food was good however and good value relative to normal, given the restaurant week menu. Service and ambiance also good."

  • "I remember coming here when I was in college in the 80's and it was quite a scene back then. This place has endured and is now a classic! Love this place, the food is not heavy, portions are just right and is very elegant. Love it when the noodle maker comes out and puts on his show. The 80's music they play is also a lot of fun. The staff is very professional and friendly."

  • "We really enjoyed dinner here it was pretty packed though maybe because it was restaurant week. I just wish there was more space between each table it was kind of tight."

  • "My friends & I always wanted to go and saw it was listed for NY Restaurant week and thought "why not." Literally Mr. Chow's surpassed our expectations for dinner. Thank you to everyone that attended us that night!"

  • "We asked the waiter before we ordered to give us a few minutes between courses. They brought the entrees before we finished our appetizers."

  • "Had dinner at Mr. Chow's for my boyfriend's birthday. Perhaps because it was restaurant week, or perhaps it's always this way....our reservation was for 8pm but we weren't seated till 8:45. Once we were seated the wait staff were attentive and the food was delicious. As it was my boyfriend's birthday I had asked the waitress to include a candle when she brought out desert- needless to say they bought the desert sans candle. They did ultimately bring us a piece of cake with a candle and didn't charge us, but it did spoil the surprise My other caveat, Be sure to tell the waiter about your food allergies before ordering as they don't ask and not all the dishes ingredients are listed on the menu."

  • "Unique dining experience. Food is great and slightly different than any Chinese food you have ever tasted. It's a festive atmosphere with its only major drawback is the noise level- it's hard to have a conversation even with your self let alone a companion. It's fascinating that for a Chinese restaurant none of the serving staff is Asian."

  • "went to the NY Mr. Chow with my family as we had a good experience and enjoyed goo food and service with the one in South Beach, the NY was not up to the expectations, pricey, average food, average ambience and location, lousy service, and rude waiters. the waiters were trying to get you to order as much as possible and the goal was to make eat and leave ASAP in order to clear the table for other clients. that was my first and last time in Mr. Chow NY."

  • "Took family members and a friend to celebrate my son's new job campaign and the success of the work that week. Our waiter was very helpful in guiding us to appetizer and entree selections that could be shared. My only surprise was a very limited selection of wines and the location was much further east than I expected. The overall experience was very good, maybe excellent."

  • "The best way to done here is to just give them a few of your likes and dislikes. They will then fill your table with just enough for your group and it will be the best, most flavorful food you've ever had! So easy. Champagne cart is a must right when you sit down. Mr chow is truly a treat."

  • "We had never been & honestly the best Asian food I've had, seriously worth the $ and small portions! Peking duck was delectable & what presentation! Must try the prawn dish & of course the Black Forest cake!!"

  • "Food had no taste, staff rude, seating tight . Mr. Chow's has lost it's appeal & price way too high for portions given & quality of food( poor at best)"
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Great food but over priced. I don't mind paying when it's worth it but 42 dollars for a very small piece of fish is too much in my opinion. Other than that amazing food. The interior design needs a change. "

  • "This was our third visit this year, and all three were memorable. The setting is gloriously unexpected; you are transported to a 1930s movie set, and feel special immediately. The service is exceptional, as is the food. Don't miss the duck either whole or as an entree; it is just spectacular. The prices seem high until you learn that the servings are generous and most can be shared. If there is a weak point, it is the wine list, with very few fairly-priced bottles; you are better off ordering by the glass. We learned to request a table facing the entrance, to enjoy the "show" at about 8:30 when the chef spectacularly demonstrates his noodle-making expertise. "
