Opened in 1979 by world famous restaurateur Michael Chow. MR CHOW started in London in 1968 and continues to enjoy generations of devoted clients from art, fashion, music, and entertainment. Recently awarded the 5 Star Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences for its excellence, service, and cuisine this restaurant described by Givenchy as a "Precious Jewel Box" is one of the most beautiful restaurants in New York City serving high Chinese Cuisine with impeccable service.
The menu at MR CHOW is a combination of old authentic Beijing, Original Recipes, and the signature dishes such as Chicken Satay, MR CHOW Noodles, and Ma Mignon. MR CHOW also serves one of the best Beijing Ducks in the world.
The famous nightly handmade noodle show is presented in every location since the opening of London in 1968.

  • "After having to wait 30 min after our reservation to get seated. The Wonan at the front have me the "one moment" finger when I asked how much longer for our table. Our servers were extremely nice. They deserved our lovely tip we left on the table for them. However, there was a woman who picked up the final draft of our bill who questioned if we were going to leave a tip because she saw that I didn't add the tip to my card. We pointed out that we left the tip in cash. Where do they do that at? Are we still questioning patrons about leaving a tip? The food was excellent but the ambiance was not appealing. It was something strait out of an 80's movie."

  • "This is supposed to be an elegant place, and we were eager to try. But their approach to restaurant week was grudging verging on insolent. They rushed the food out. Some of the dishes were good, others indifferent. And for dessert, they slapped down a single plate with one scoop of bland ice cream and one of sorbet. There is no requirement to participate in Restaurant Week and if they resent it they should not play. Instead of turning us into excited new patrons, they turned us off."

  • "Arrived for 8pm booking. Told to wait until partner arrived at the bar which was 10 minutes later. Didn't get seated till 9. Seems a bit of a lottery as the restaurant seemed overbooked so don't come if you are in a hurry. The food was good however and good value relative to normal, given the restaurant week menu. Service and ambiance also good."

  • "I remember coming here when I was in college in the 80's and it was quite a scene back then. This place has endured and is now a classic! Love this place, the food is not heavy, portions are just right and is very elegant. Love it when the noodle maker comes out and puts on his show. The 80's music they play is also a lot of fun. The staff is very professional and friendly."

  • "Had dinner at Mr. Chow's for my boyfriend's birthday. Perhaps because it was restaurant week, or perhaps it's always this way....our reservation was for 8pm but we weren't seated till 8:45. Once we were seated the wait staff were attentive and the food was delicious. As it was my boyfriend's birthday I had asked the waitress to include a candle when she brought out desert- needless to say they bought the desert sans candle. They did ultimately bring us a piece of cake with a candle and didn't charge us, but it did spoil the surprise My other caveat, Be sure to tell the waiter about your food allergies before ordering as they don't ask and not all the dishes ingredients are listed on the menu."

It's a festive atmosphere with its only major drawback is the noise level- it's hard to have a conversation even with your self let alone a companion. It's fascinating that for a Chinese restaurant none of the serving staff is Asian."

  • "This was our third visit this year, and all three were memorable. The setting is gloriously unexpected; you are transported to a 1930s movie set, and feel special immediately. The service is exceptional, as is the food. Don't miss the duck either whole or as an entree; it is just spectacular. The prices seem high until you learn that the servings are generous and most can be shared. If there is a weak point, it is the wine list, with very few fairly-priced bottles; you are better off ordering by the glass. We learned to request a table facing the entrance, to enjoy the "show" at about 8:30 when the chef spectacularly demonstrates his noodle-making expertise. "

  • "I live next door to this restaurant, My niece was visiting and I made a reservation hoping to eat well. first of all what was offered on Open Table site was not on the Menu. we ordered some dumplings, arrived dried out and cold,. the ribs recommended were also dry and reheated, the chicken and crispy beef were nothing special , we ordered brown rice and got fried rice which was fresh and tasted good, but not what we had ordered. we had Badoit in our glasses and the waiter added tap water to it . Let's not forget the blood orange with Grand Marnier which was non existent, we had blood orange(?) with some red jelly. On the whole not a great experience."

  • "If you've ever had dumplings than you must try The Box meat dumplings since they're not like anything I've ever had! Say farewell to the standard doughy dumplings and hello to a mini baked pie like appeitizer. Too die for! Also Mr. Chows sparetip ribs are tender and fall off the bone! Yummy! If that doesn't wet your palete the main course of fiery beef or chili pork are delicious! A great place for lunch or dinner with friends or couples! Plus the chef performs a mini show for the crowd by making fresh pasta right before your eyes! GREAT FOOD GREAT MEMORIES!!! "

  • "It was my first time in this restaurant in NYC. I've been in Mr Chow in Miami and in comparison with Miami the only thing that was under my expectation was the local. Too small, even with the reservation they took 30 minutes to seat us and the bar had no space to accommodate more people. Food was great though!"
